Using your book I found NGC 457 last night. It was one of the coolest things I have seen in the sky, up there with the Pleiades!

Oh man! I actually have your book! So glad to have found this channel and thank you for a wonderful list of targets. I am so grateful for your introductory work with stargazing. Can’t wait to try them out as soon as the clouds clear up a bit. :)

I love M81 Bode's Galaxy and it is easy to find and when you look at it you're seeing light from 12 million years ago. At 32 degrees Latitude I lose the big Dipper in the early evening during winter so M81 isn't always visible unless I wait up until Ursa Major climbs up higher. Ursa Major has a bunch of good galaxies to see including M51 Whirlpool, a double galaxy on the end under the handle or bear's tail where M101 is above the tail as well, but it's a bit dimmer and harder to see if there is a lot of light pollution. (Bears don't have long tails🤣) Centaurus doesn't rise up enough to see Alpha Centauri here at 32° latitude, but C80 (Caldwell Catalogue) or Omega Centauri globular star cluster does with its 10+ million stars, 15 light years across and at 36 arc minutes is as big as the moon and easily visible in a moderate dark sky when it rises above the horizon. It is visible here starting in the early morning around the first of March and lasts until it disappears in late July. Astronomers say it is a Dwarf Galaxy captured by the Milky Way and probably has a black hole at its center. It has an apparent magnitude of 3.9 and with binoculars a big bright spot 17,000 light years away. It is estimated to be 11 billion+ years old. Did you see C80 John when you were in the Caribbean?

I did not see c80! But I’ll be in the Caribbean next week, wasn’t planning on bringing a telescope though. Binoculars maybe!
