the cakes, candy, and foods come from bakeries; candy stores; and food places. it's not like the scammer is cooking and baking themselves. they're not making the time for that. they're trying to get as much money off of them as possible, so they're not going to try to HURT them..

You can see the pain in this man's face and hear it in his voice. He seems like a really good dude. This one was the saddest I've seen so far.

The myriad of reasoning for needing money is vast indeed. And rarely makes any sense. Five figure sums for new oil rig equipment? Or, the U.S military is so busted that they ask each enlisted soldier to hit up strangers online for a funds infusion? People miss red flags bc they’re got blinders on. And, don’t want no one bursting their delusional bubble. While these guys fawn over model pics, I keep thinking, ‘yur yakking with a dude Bruh’. I know huh? Its kinda funny cuz im used to being alone but as they say the crowd is the loneliest place to be a loner. I was at my new school that time and i dont have any friends there. That is what I was thinking too. If you listen to how he talks about "Sarah", almost all of the positives he gives are how long they talk. It sounds like he keeps going back because they are a distraction from the grief he is dealing with. He starts a fight with Sarah and they go back and forth sometimes for hours. It is something else to focus on. I hope he can get some help to and start a more fulfilling relationship with a local woman.

Problem is, he'll never meet a real person cause he's wasting time talking to strangers online, instead of taking some of that money & getting a nice hair cut & beard trim and maybe going to a nice bar/ supper club and meeting a nice woman there. You should watch documentaries on how *orphans are recruited and forced into online scamming for nothing more than shelter and meals. Some areas they even threaten youngsters to work for them and inflict physical harm to them and/or loved ones.* The "scammers" get a cut of what they bring. The guys who run the outfit rake the rest. Scamfish briefly derived this on one of their vids. But I've seen extensive documentaries on it. *VERY EYE-OPENING!*

Don't these guys who are like 60 years old ask themselves "would my own daughter date a 60 year old" or "when I was 25-30, would I have dated a 60 year old?" If the answer is not very likely, wouldn't they then realize that their fantasy girlfriend is just made up? But this guy I feel sorry for, he seems like a nice person. A lot of these victims aren't very nice, but he seem to be. He's just so lonely. Hope he can find some nice 60 year old woman who is _real_ .

I feel for this guy. My wife of 32 years was recently diagnosed with a form of Leukemia. If she passes I have decided that I will never date, either online or in person. I have my boys, my grandkids, and my hobbies. My marriage is extremely good, and I don't think I could ever find anyone that could to fill that gap.

However, the “unattractive” ones really need to take a long hard look in the mirror and ask themselves why someone with “model” looks would be chasing them. And some of them have even heard about the scams and they still fall for them. Okay, maybe you’d send $100 to someone in trouble but when they keep coming back with excuse after excuse why they can’t meet, and asking for more money that the victims send, I have to say my sympathies wane a little.

We need updates on past scammed people and especially Wade! I hope he’s doing well and found someone in real life.

Only person on this series who I feel badly for. Seems like a genuinely kind person.

Edit: Just to clarify: A forum for all the clients that have been scammed (no outside people, strictly for the people who have actually been on the show themselves) to be able to talk with each other. They all have shared, painful experiences of being scammed. Not necessarily for romance but for friendship. Wade's loneliness was palpable and it was painful to see. These people (that were on the show) could at least have a place to go and talk. Have they thought about opening up a forum for the men and women that have been scammed and are really lonely to meet and talk with each other? Maybe not necessarily even a romantic relationship but a friendship to ease their loneliness. They really should consider doing this. Wade is such a nice guy, I know that some of these women (who are real) that would genuinely be interested in talking to him.

Jodi is the woman in the video, she had been sending money to the African man for 8 years. I don’t think he had been here that long. So basically Americans are paying for these dirtbags to move here. This is utterly heartbreaking. This man could find a real woman instead of this. I hope he has found someone by now.

There’s only a VERY small few that I felt genuinely sorry for and one of them is this man. Just in the first few minutes, I just felt this instant sympathy for him…

When he said "We've been married" early in the video I was thinking that he was one of those cheaters because it sounded like they were still married. Then he said she died after taking care of her, which is admirable.

These 2 catfish employees(I don't know their names) are so good at talking to people. They both are always so kind and patient and seem to genuinely care about the people they are helping.

I especially think Drew is so good with clients! I watch for the employees too although scams are fascinating to me. I work with mental health and I am convinced that scam victims are going through addiction. They display the same behaviours as an addict.

@@chanel113 it's not addiction, it's a combination of a lot of things. This guy is clearly experiencing trauma and grievance. Others will follow the sunken cost fallacy steps where they invest a bit of time and don't want to give up just now because "what if it's true?". Some others are just lonely and want the companionship even if they have to pay for it. Some are just naive and don't really want to accept reality. I don't think it is similar to substance addiction at all, those people have feelings for the person even if they don't like the money aspect, and I would say it's more like trauma bonding where a victim is in love with their abuser.

@@Rabbit-285 Well, the young woman was going after HIM. Scammers do not use a photo of an older woman. Who knows, when a 60 year old lady was texting him, would he react as well?

Can we get an update where you just read him the comments and we see him react - or hopefully by now he’s seen how many people are rooting for him & how likable he is 💜 WE MISS YOU TOO WADE!

This one I feel sorry for. He treated his wife nice and was just lonely. He also seemed like a real person and listened to the Catfish team. He wasn’t too full of himself.

Same. I rarely feel empathy with them and some are also very rude. But this guy is lovely.

This man is an old school simple minded family man. You can see that especially when they ask him if he cares if she’s Nigerian and he says no. Then when they ask if he cares if she’s Nigerian and a guy he says of course yes. He does not understand how these scam works. I feel so bad for him bc he is very terribly lonely. At the end he thanks them for helping, wishes them Happy Thanksgiving and tells them he will miss them. Hope he finds some real people to talk to and make friends with soon.

WHY WHY WHY continue to talk to a scammer? You are most likely talking to a DUDE. There are Nigerian scammer rings all over the country, run by men. The second somebody asks you for money and calls you pet names - DELETE AND BLOCK.

I’ve said this before. I remember traveling China and meeting a Nigerian man. He gave me his office address and I walked in and let me tell you there was stacks upon stacks of American cash on a desk. I had never seen so much money. I noped out of there right away because there’s no telling what he was up to

@@junopierre2988 yeah a few of them do the scam in Europe too and live lavishly or come as a refugees, but they honestly aren’t. They just use anything they can to their advantage and have no shame what so ever.

People post comments like this here all the time. Problem is, comments like this are preachin' to the choir. The people who need to hear this type of comment aren't generally looking at channels like this.

I am not really a church-going person, but I see signs all the time at churches for widows and widowers and bereaved people to meet and talk. Wade is a wonderful man, decent looking and loyal. I wish he could find a group like that to share his feelings instead of having to rely on a 20-something person online.

Social catfish should literally setup a private group where these lonely people that have been scammed can chat and if they choose to. Heck or even find love.

I agree...I really felt bad for this guy...usually I can't understand how dumb some can be to get scammed... but this guy seems like such a real and genuine guy that I can't help but feel bad...hope he finds some happiness 😊

What a nice man. He deserves a real and genuinely nice person in his life.

I must have gotten 15 “friend requests” on Facebook from women much younger and ignored them. It’s obvious that it’s not a good idea to follow up.

Thanks for putting up with me - This guy comes across waaay better than some of the unpleasant ingrates that you guys have put time and effort into helping. Really hope he gets there

I’ve watched so so many of these videos on this channel and this is the FIRST person I’ve felt genuine sympathy for. Especially when he was talking about his wife. I truly wish the best for this guy.

He seems so nice. He deserves a real relationship.

This is a really sad story. However, the language the team use helps people maintain their illusion.Instead of saying ‘they started an online relationship’ they should say ‘Wade believed he was building an online relationship’ or asking ‘where does this put you with Sara?’ They should ‘ where does this put you with the scammer who’s been using the alias Sara’ This would help others grasp the reality. But I’ve noticed in recent episodes they continue to talk as if the person is real- ‘so what will you do if Sara contacts you again’ etc, so the fantasy persists that Sara exists…

I agree, and I've seen a couple of episodes where people went back after the scam was exposed because they just didn't want to believe the truth. They're calling this person that doesn't exist by a name. They speak of them as if they're real.

Cult deprogrammers are taught not to directly contradict or challenge the beliefs of people right away. Chances are the cult member will turn on you and accuse you of wrongdoing. If you can gently get them to trust you and to believe you have their best interests at heart, you have a better chance that they will see the truth, eventually. I'm sure that these folks talk to the victims for maybe an hour? Maybe two? They have to be gentle. Look at what happens when their own kids try telling them, "It's a scam!" The kids are ignored. I think these folks have a lot in common with cult members.

I don't agree. It seems to me like they are using transitional language to help the victim who has built an internal relationship with this person to let go. We also don't see the full conversation, so there is maybe more of a progression than we realize.

Guy's wife was beautiful. I so felt for him - he deserves so much more from life. Such a genuine human being.

Aww…he is a sweet, vulnerable, lonely man. He should join a social club of some sort with his community center. From Arts to dancing and bird watching, hiking and more, I am sure there is something out there where he can meet people face to face. (my Uncle joined a remote control planes group).

When they call you babe, they are juggling many victims at the same time and they don’t want to have to remember names

Hi Wade- this happened to me 9 years ago but the person never asked for money. I’m still not sure what he gained from the emotional torture he put me through but thankfully I snapped out of the trance after several months of empty promises and tragic situations that prevented him from meeting me in person. I blocked him, changed my phone number and I’ve spent the last 9 years focusing on work & not much else. I just turned 52 and I’ve missed out on real life relationships because I wouldn’t let my guard down enough to give anyone a chance. My advice to you is to block this person and keep your heart open to the possibility of a real life relationship with someone you are compatible with and who won’t drain you financially or emotionally.

Most likely a newbie romance scammer that failed at trying to play the long game. The more experience these scammers get, the more patient & calculating they become. It's not about a hundred bucks here or there then ghosting. By sucking you in all the way over a period of time, you let your guard down completely & then at that point, they can get the big bucks out of you. 5/10+ people on the hook at any one time & if you pull one, that sort of money goes a very very long way in the 3rd world. If you can get even a single person to sell their home, empty their retirement fund or whatever, then you are set for life.

Unfortunately some romance scammers aren't in it for money, just for the emotional control and attention. I bet you were speaking with a woman, pretending to be a male. There are master manipulators online who know just what to say to capture our hearts. It's sick and twisted.

Sometimes in you case it isn’t even a romance scammer, it simply a catfish. There some strange people who do this for fun or boredom. Sometimes it’s even someone you know. Watch the show: catfish. It’s often the same thing you have described as you situation. Sometimes some people don’t even do it for money.

Sounds like a run-of-the-mill catfish, tbh. People are strange and get into all types of weird dynamics online to fulfill an emotional need or two. I'm sorry that happened to you. I don't think you've wasted anything though. It's okay to not be dating all the time. Sometimes you're not feeling it, and you weren't so you didn't. Good for you. Don't look back with regret over an idea that's not even real. You have no idea what could have been or what will be. Don't do that to yourself. Don't make up things to feel sad about when actual life provides enough honest material for us. It's never too late to put yourself out there if you're seeking companionship. People in their 80s are still dating for that purpose. Don't use false walls around yourself.

Yeah I agree with the 2nd reply. That’s probably just an old fashion catfish. They pretend to be someone else online and create a fake relationship with someone and in that case it was you. They never intend to meet the person cuz they can’t show who they really are.

“Hello handsome” …would’ve triggered some immediate alarms……I do feel really sorry for Wade, he seems like a good and genuine man.

Everytime they talk about a online relation ship. There is no online relation ship! Chatting with someone is no relation ship. It's the dream, the fantasy of having a relation ship.

This is probably the first time I feel sorry for a person that appears on this show. I genuinely hope he finds someone that gives true love. He deserves it!

I would love to be this guy's friend! He seems like such a lovely soul and I'm so sorry he was hurt.

This poor man. It's so heartbreaking. I hope he finds someone who deserves him and that truly cares about him.

If you read this Wade.......I'm a couple of years older than you: you look great for your age & you have a nice personality; the reality is that a girl that looks like that only has interest in a guy of our age group for 1 thing, and it isn't love of you but love of free money - YOUR MONEY. Find someone local or at least someone that you can meet face to face, just don't try too hard, and if you get asked for money you walk away and never look back. Best of luck mate, you deserve a break.

In most cases, that's not even a girl to start with. Sarah isn't real, just photo of some attractive woman used as bait to lure him. In my country, scammers use fake identity of korean/arab men to lure women cause that seems to be the preference here

I am so sorry for Wade’s loss. That is so hard. And it shows what kind of guy he is that he stood by his wife’s side while she went through that. Loneliness is a killer. I have to agree with you. What these horny old men need to realize is the young women they could care less about them all they want is their money. Even in real life you see older men with these young beautiful women. But people don't realize is he's paying for it. The deeper the pocket the more beautiful the woman. So I don't feel sorry for any of them.

He responded to what seemed to be affection, understanding, compassion and warmth towards him. He said he's not a savvy person. He seems sincere to me.

Really, really feel for Wade. After losing his wife who he clearly loved dearly, too soon in his life has left a void which has made him susceptible to dating scams. I can see the distress on his face when he says he’s lonely. Breaks my heart. I hope he manages to find someone in real life and live the small portion of what he has left of his life with someone he cares about, and cares for him. What a sad story!
