Year 1 Ambleside Online Scheduled Book Stack

Here is a look at all the scheduled year 1 books for Ambleside Online. See what each book looks like, what the inside pages are like, and how often each one is scheduled. This will give you an idea of what you'll be covering over the year.
Many of the books are spread out over several years, so year 1 will only cover a few chapters in many of these books.
Since year 1 is the first year of narration, we are also taking some readings and breaking them into smaller chunks throughout the week.

That’s good to know about trial and triumph. I have that book up to read. Thank you for this!

Another great video! We did year 1 last year and will be doing it again next year for my younger kid. Trial and Triumph gets better with the brutality and sadness. The first few stories are on martyrs, but then it goes into more of heroes from early church history like Saint Patrick. I have enjoyed this one myself.

Thanks for the heads up! Yea I’ve noticed that now that we are farther in. Some are easier to read, others are quite brutal. I think I’ll just be better about pre-reading this particular book at least for my younger 2! I’m learning a lot too which is so nice.

How do you do recitation with a Y1, who isn’t reading independently yet??

Love the walk through. We are doing CM for the first time too. I'm really struggling with keeping nature study and handicrafts prioritized. How is that going for you guys!?

What are you using to help your year 1 child learn to read?

We just finished Teach Your Child To Read In 100 Easy Lessons, which we took over a year to do. He’s now continuing with daily reading practice using Little Bear, easy readers from the library, and level 2 Dash into Learning Books.

Please could you share more specifically where you got the burgess bird printables from? Which Facebook page is it? Thank you

I got these in the main official AO Facebook group, which I think you have to answer q’s and then they review and let you in. Once you’re a part of it, check the files button, and search the files for Burgess or bird or some keyword like that to see what’s listed. There are often several resources similarly named since it’s a large group so just download the ones that seem likely and open to see if it’s what you’re looking for.

Great! Thank you. I found the group now I think :) Thanks for your videos, they’re really helpful. We’re new to HS and hoping to use AO next year with my 3!

Wondering why read British history? Is it to eventually get to the American history?

  • @LizBlueandHazel

Yep, AO does state that it helps to later understand American history, though there are others that disagree and use other curriculum for history. I’d recommend reading their post on this exact q: www.amblesideonline.org/history
