Meltdown is probably when it was most relevant. There HAVE been field spells (or even Tenki) that add on activation, but Meltdown was the most relevant after Ash was printed.

Its extra funny when you take into consideration that db shows you that your enemy is going through their deck. Meaning the shark could have easily dropped ash before scheiren was added because he absolutely knew the enemy was searching

Honestly, so did I. I legit thought that you had to declare field spell effects that happen on activation since whatever happens always starts a chain. I always just said "on activation, search a Therion monster" when I activate Therion Discolosseum, because I always play as if my opponent doesn't know what my cards do. I truly understand where this guy was coming from where "it starts a chain so you have to declare it", because I actually thought he was right until the two judges refuted him and would absolutely have called a judge during a locals if it happened to me, but the response and the childish aftermath from him is a perfect example of what NOT to do when a complex in-depth game surprises you with something that you didn't know - be happy you played a game where you actually learned something. These are not people we want playing Yu-gi-oh.

An common example that predates meltdown as a card but not in terms of its relationship with ash is tenki. Tenki is activated but searches on res and this came up a bit but by the time ash was out meltdown was a bit more common interaction.

I’m pretty sure if Ash is QCR you don’t have to declare

@@christianacosta4846 yes and no, sometimes ash’ing scheiren still feels bad cuz you have 5 cards and the opp now has 4, so you didn’t really get rid of any of their cards. It can be used as a reino discard and it’s still a name you can get value out of and fuse or could be a a resource you now have for a future cryme if it isn’t used. Most of the time I don’t like getting my planet ash’ed but maybe you can get lucky, mill a sulliek somewhere and get her anyways 😀

To be fair, almost every Yugioh player does this interaction wrong irl. Most players ask if the turn player is going to use the effect to search before deciding if they are gonna chain Ash Blossom, because they think that's how it works. But like DB said in the vid, if you have all 3 Allisters in hand, your opponent can still chain Ash Blossom because the Chain starts on activation of the field spell; not the resolution, which is when the search happens if it's going to. I think this ruling should be coined the "Magical Meltdown" ruling so that players can familiarize themselves with an all too common interaction these days what with the Planet cards and all.

When theres already a problem right at the first activation of a card you know its gonna be good

It chooses on res is the point. It's similar to Macro or even any of the Purrley spells. You can ash every single one of these even if the opponent isn't going to use the effect that involves the deck.

even before that with macro cosmos. not in relation to ash obviously, but in that you choose to search/summon from deck at the resolution of the card activation.

They ruled it at Nats that you declare to search. Cardshark may have been a cocksucker but he was going by the ruling made at the biggest tournament in the country this year

Yuuchy is a cool dude and the second best sylvan and Koa'ki fist player.

So i had a similiar expierence once my opponent activated a Perlereino and i had a solemn Judgment set as well as an Ash in my hand. I said activation ok on the Fieldspell and he went to his deck to search. I said wait and activated Ash. My Opponent just said i allowed Perlereino and missed my response Window. I explained to him then there are 2 seperate Windows and i only allowed the activation like i stated. He called a Judge and i got the call. But here he is just trying to shark his opponent.

Is it weird that i feel let down when i dont hear "Gotta love to see it" 😅😂?

@@alexnanni9454 from my understanding you are just activating the card which includes the effect to search but the search is only done on resolution since the field spell is just being activated. So even if you had no valid targets since the search is optional and on resolution they must ash on the initial activation of the field spell. Similarly to how you can ash time thief or cross sheep since the effect in the text includes adding but the result is technically not known until resolution of the chain. I hope I'm making sense but this is how all the simulators including master duel work on this and why you can ash even with 0 valid search targets
