This song is amazing. The instrumentation has a haunting quality and the vocals take it to a whole other level. We've all been there. The point of no return: when longing and despair meet at the crossroads. Then after days of being in the abyss you break through to clarity. I stumbled across a jewel of information, while I was researching something else entirely unrelated, that illuminated the deeper meaning that the music already implies. It confirmed that the lyrics are a perfect compliment to the composition. Ironing out the issues with translating languages that are not Latin-based and/or Romance Languages is a fascinating alphabetical, grammatical and semantics excursion. Especially since a major handful of languages are predominantly metaphorical. The specific aspect of 'Hal', and of a few instances in the rest of the translation, is what I found to be different from what is on the WEBsites. What I came across, while researching the esoteric similarity of certain concepts within Zoroastrianism and Islam, was a comprehensive definition of the word. It refers to a state of consciousness; perception. It is also the equivalent to the Sanskrit word 'Maya' (illusion). So I would like to suggest lyrics that may be closer to Ms. Hamdan's intentions. My suggestion is first, followed by the translation found on some lyrics sites. i love you, if a day passes without seeing you i want to forget you and I hear the bitter thoughts. Longing stirs the memories in my heart the long night poisons my heart in the day oh my fragile heart this blockage hurts me I have no illusion I have no illusion time is no friend to my heart THE WEBs LYRICS =============== i adore you, even if a day passes by without seeing you. i forget you ? how come this time i drew you. the Longing moves the nostalgia in my heart the night gets longer and the day passes backwards the separation is killing me i have no solution (hal) i have no solution the heart only loves once -----------------------------------

You're right, you need soul. I am getting sufi vibes from this. And I am seeing it as a love song about the relationship between ones self and higher self. Where love is: presence. When we are not connected to soul, we forget about it. That's how it makes sense when she says she loves so much, yet if she doesn't see him for a day she forgets him. Then when we think of soul, the longing actually moves nostalgia in our hearts. Cos soul is not to be thought of, as thought only conjures illusions/distortion. Which is what nostalgia is, seeing things in some romanticised way, instead of how they really happened. When we are so lost in our perception, instead of experiencing what is, as it goes when live in connection with Soul, the night is longer because in our dream state we return back to this relationship. And the day feels backwards because it is lived not in connection. Then comes compassion for the heart, as it is the portal. And at the same time, the place where we feel when we are disconnected from soul. When I say disconnected, I mean, living in ignorance of, as it's not really possible to be disconnected from our essence, but we can betray it by the way we live, by not honouring it and not letting it inform our action. So if connection to source is life giving, then not living in connection feels like dying. There is no solution (hal) because we are multidimensional, here to experience being a human, while at the same time actually being a soul. You would think that the heart would show a craving for this connection, a desire, but it somehow doesn't, because it is always one with soul. So there is no solution (hal) for that. It's the paradox of the soul having a human experience...

Hey, thanks a lot for the translation, I’ve been hypnotized with this song and even if just hearing it moves me, understanding the message makes me like it even more! I found other translations that do not make sense in some parts, but now finally the blurred parts are clear :)

This was great. I loved the moment in the film when Adam drifts over to listen to this. I'd totally do the same. And that coffee looks irresistible. Mmm. The more I think about drinking an Arabic coffee on a warm evening in Tangiers, with some friends, listening to music like this, the more I get pulled in.

Proof that art that beauty, the huamity in all of us has no code, no language and no bounds. It connects us all, helps us understand us all and connect us all on more levels than we will ever understand. PS: I would marry that woman in an instant if just so that I could listen to her sing my soul to heaven. The least and most selfish of all reasons. PPS: If she is married already, I am not jealous. She would be too awesome to keep to myself anyway.
