Hope to see you use it on horseback! I know historically, Manchu did use full-sized bow on horseback (sometimes they would use a slightly smaller size version). Still, I have never seen anyone on the Internet use a Manchu bow on horseback yet, especially with a military-grade poundage. I am also learning archery with Yarha II bow and hopefully can one day use it on horseback!

Yes, they did use them on horseback - and very effectively too. There are some modern day horse archers who've done proper mounted archery with Manchu bows too - but surely with lighter poundage. I hope to have gotten into proper shooting from horseback with this before there's snow on the ground. What would be in a month or two. What poundage Yarha II you got there? If you are just recently started learning archery I do respect for starting with a Manchu bow.

@@UgriArcher The bow I am using is around 50# at 35 inch, not very high poundage. However, I did some historical research and I believed most of Manchu archers would use bow around 50 to 80 pounds, the historical archery teaching scripture recommended horse bow should around 50 to 70 pounds as mounted archers would rapidly shoot to target at 15 m. So the poundage needs to be strong enough to penetrate armor but light enough for archers to shoot three shots within 120 to 150m on horseback. By the way, I believe ali bow in order to make Manchu bow easy to use, decrease the angle of bow ears (the nonbending wood parts) and make them heavier and stronger than it should, so the efficiency and arrow speed of the bow won’t be very high. Might be around 150 fps for 16gpp. Not sure it wound negative impact on mounted archery or not but historical it should be around 170 fps for 16 to 17 gpp.

Bare thumb at 80#!? Holy Smoke!! Have you lost any sensation in your thumb tip?

The thumb gets used to it when the progress is careful and gradual. There are no ill effects at all, only the skin gets thicker and tendons grow stronger.

Was walking and shooting part of traditional archery practice that you know of? You still won't find me going bare thumb with this bow. Have you checked if your bow pulls a full 80# @35?

I think moving archery, if need be, walking or running, has been part of practically every archery cultures customs. Haven't checked if this bow maxes out the full #80 - and would try that only with proper rack to hold the bow in place.

@@UgriArcher Sensible to test safely I'm just interested, becoming more comfortable with the draw myself. I can see some use in being able to shoot moving in a historical military context, although my assumption would be it would compromise the draw rather than stopping momentarily to complete the draw especially with a very heavy warbow weights. But equally I must just try it for myself.

Did you train up for this with another bow? What draw weight was that?

Yes, I've done all sorts of moving archery for years - walking, running, skiing, skating... - also shooting at this size discs, so it's not a new thing for me. If you browse the channel videos you'll see a lot of moving archery, with different bows. I usually shoot with about #40 bows.
