Yard Works Mower With Seized Engine? Let's Find Out

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In today's video, I work on an almost new Yardworks self propelled lawnmower that I bought for $30. The seller claims it had a seized engine. I bought it for parts but was hoping the seller was misdiagnosing the problem (which I see A LOT). Turns out the seller was wrong and watch this $0 fix!

Once the blade is tightened then move pulley down and tighten set screw up, it’s to keep pulley from moving up

That's what I ended up doing. I've since sold the mower and haven't had any complaints as of yet. Thanks for watching. Cheers

Did you try to see if the screw would fit into the upper keyway on the shaft? If it fits, it would be the perfect location to set the screw and keep it from possibly spinning on the shaft. Just my 2cents. Thanks for the video, good stuff.

Thanks for the suggestion. I don't think that would work as the pulley and the blade adapter only line up a certain way. Doing as you suggest would have not allowed the blade adapter to fit properly in the keyway. Cheers

Yes just tighten the set screw. The ones I've seen have a separate key to align to the shaft and are separate from the pulley.

Thanks Al. That is exactly what I've done and haven't heard back from the new owner in the last couple weeks they've been using it. Wonder why it loosened in the first place. Wouldn't surprise me if it was poor build quality. Quality control is a thing of the past. Thanks again for taking the time to comment. Cheers

I would see if there is a key way that is specific for this mower it may possibly have a hole drilled in it for the set screw to sit in.

I don't think this is the case based on other comments but it had me second guessing that also. Cheers

Should be a cone shape on set screw to dig into crankshaft when tight. Buy new set screws assemble see what happens.

Looks to me like there is a missing key way that the set screw should hold onto. Especially suspicious because of the state of the blade.

I thought so as well but based on the others comments, I don't believe that's the case

Also did you make sure the keyway at the top of the mower was not sheared also?

To me, it looks like the balde adapter is keyed to the drive shaft and the pulley is keyed to the blade adapter - the set screw just keeps the pulley from sliding up-out of those notches - love your videos man.
