This piece has a very special meaning to me. When my wonderfull and special-needs niece died, 15 years ago, she was only 18 years old. I was so sad after her death, that I wrote and recorded a song in her memory. I had been deeply involved in her life since birth, and often stayed at their house or in hospital with her to let my brother and sister in law get some time to themself and rest. Special-needs children needs 24/7 care. But having one in your life is something so special. They make your heart feel like crushed velvet. Crushed in the sence that you are sad and devastated that they have to suffer through so many hardships. And like velvet, because the love and care you give them is rewarded ten-fold. Those of you who know someone, or is in a situation like that knows exactly what I am saying. So when she died I became a bit...empty. I needed to honor her in some way. So I wrote special lyrics to Comptine d'un autre été and used Audacity to record the song. I still have the file on my computer, and it is obvious that I was a mix of sad and happy when I performed it. Sad that her life ended so early, but happy that I could make a special song for her, celebrating her life - knowing we had given her all the love she deserved throughout her life - however short it was. I hope one day I can play it to my sister in law, but she is not strong enough to hear it yet unfortunately. She has been very affected by this as it was a situation that went on for so many years. But when she is ready to hear it, I will sit down with her, hold her hand and let her hear the song of her precious daughters life. I hope that day will come soon....

What's the song at the end?
I am 19. But listening to this song i feel like an old man, who saw all the things in this life
I think that that song represented two feelings: melancholy and happiness. the melancholy was played by the left hand, while the happiness was played by the right. throughout the song they became for different, but then became the same in the end.

Piece
This piece makes me feel like you failed at something but encourages you to keep going and that there's still hope.
“After one has played a vast quantity of notes and more notes, it is simplicity that emerges as the crowning reward of art.” ~Frédéric Chopin
Tip: if you try to study this, first learn rh and lh separately. It's easier to learn the piece if you don't combine the hand positions in your head, but play them as two separate pieces (because of the different tempo). Bonus tip: Don't think too much when you play the hands. Just play them. Don't think at all, actually. Lh is just repeating the same measure again and again.

This is called real music. Nothing in the world releases and catches you the way like music does. Feelings occur out of nowhere. You could be the happiest person on earth, but the next moment you're sad and depressed. This is what makes music great. Sharing a story without even saying words. You can't describe it but you feel it
I met a girl in Paris that played this song for me on a public piano, she even tried teaching it me. We went on a party afterwards but I didn't ask her for her number and never saw her again. I think I lost my shot at love and every time I hear this song I think about her. Edit: tysm for the likes, this comment section gives me hope that romance isn't dead nowadays

to me, it sounds like the perfect blend of wistful sorrow. it's the feeling of yearning for something you may never have or will have again. whether that is an impossible fantastical reality you've dreamed up for yourself, or something you once had in the past. it could be a former lover, a person who has long passed on, a treasured possession, or the feeling of never experiencing something again. absolutely beautiful cover ❤️

@@andressanchez7629 in my opinion. They are all masterpieces but No,1 and No, 4 are tied for first. I absolutely loved Ballade No, 1 much more than any other Ballade, then after listening to Balade No, 4 I still thought Ballade No, 1 was better, but then the more I listened to Ballade No, 4 the more it grew on me, and now it's about equal for me, I guess some pieces you love the more you listen to it, like La Campenella for me, at first I only liked the ending but now I love the beginning, and Op, 25 No, 5, Chopin Etude "Wrong Note" at first I didn't like the beginning but I loved the middle section and I listened to it for that, but, now I absolutely love the beginning even more then the beautiful middle, if anything, it's amazing how a classical piece can grow on you.

I am so happy.... you have no idea. I stopped learning in grade 3 conservatory at the age of 8 because my parents couldn't afford to get me a full size keyboard at the time. I heard this song over 5 years ago for the first time and almost cried at the fact that I would never be able to play. For me, learning sheet music is very difficult and not intuitive. I literally got my first keyboard, full size with weighted keys in 2019. I barely play. I picked this up last year and learned the left hand and gave up thinking it was beyond my skills. Yesterday after a very stressful week, I somehow went to the keyboard and started playing some notes from memory, opened this video, and now today I know the whole song!!! This is a big deal for me, thank you so much. I have a lot of practice to make it sound good, but I can play it!!

I'm now racing toward older age, and I still haven't achieved my dream of becoming a musician. I never studied instruments in school, but I believe I have a great voice. I want to learn to play an instrument before my life is over. This track always makes me feel like time is fleeting, and that I need to take advantage of what is left.

To all people who read this. I'd like to say something. Sometimes life is hard and frustrating and full of stress. But it doesnt mean that it's the end. Light is always somewhere, and it always will be. Hope is always around you, and you have many decisions nowadays. I just wanted to say to keep your head up no matter what happens. Because light is still waiting for you.

Back in 4th grade, my math teacher would play this during our silent work time. I always tuned out to just listen to it, but I wasn't sure how to ask the name of it bc it wasn't the only piano song that he put on. Fast-forward to last month and I hear a tune I could swear I recognized from a reel on Instagram. After re-listening a couple of times I realized exactly what I was hearing. Took me long enough.
Je termine les cours à 18h et c'est une véritable torture de devoir attendre jusqu’au soir pour pouvoir enfin écouter la merveilleuse musique que tu as joué pour nous, qui illumine chaque triste lundi.❤️ I finish class at 6pm and it’s a torture to have to wait evening to listen to the wonderful music you have play for all of us, illuminating every sad Monday. This was my dead grandfather’s song. I still enjoy every note of playing it myself. I was 10 when he died, now im 13 and i thank every youtuber for playing this.
This piece is such a beautiful creation. This piece is telling a story, but not just a story, a lifetime. It's up to the listener. This is a perfect example of a piece, that sets all kinds of different emotions and thoughts through a listeners head. It can feel empowering, motivating and exciting, but other times, it can feel sad, sort of like grief. I really feel as this is one of the best musical creations of all time - it's amazing. I'm listening to it, as I'm writing this comment, and I can feel this piece while I'm typing. Very well played!

That’s how I picture the song in my mind as well.
I feel like playing this piece is the closest thing to being in a 'flow-state'.. Especially the main part from 1:01-1:26 is like a flow because it's exactly the right amount of difficulty to master and so fun to play. As an amateur who can only play a few self-taught pieces on my keyboard I'm so happy to be able to play this. Thank you Rousseau 🎉❤
I was there, under the midnight skies, with her. Her beauty was excruciating under the moonlight, her smile radiating a light so bright that I could only stare. She must be an angel. But why, did she have to return to the skies so early? I was fine, years after she left. Of course I was fine. But why couldn't she be here, under the moon once again? Why couldn't she be here, shining the light that illuminates the night like the sky had caught fire? Why couldn't she be here with me? (i feel a longing so strong yet so calm at the same time. it's as if I lost someone I loved dearly, and time has washed over the wound so many times, to the point that my pain is reduced to a faint yearning for them, and it constantly flows within me, like a small stream in the mountain. it never stops flowing, it's always there, and it's a faint sadness always present in my heart. or maybe I used to love something dearly, yet I can no longer find it.)
Can't believe you did it. I had been writing in comments to you to play this piece more than 6 times. Thank you! Great work!

+TheViperShow I understand now, it makes lots of sense, thanks for telling me. That is some coincidence! I'm learning this piece right now, too. I recently performed as a finalist at a music competition, and someone performed this piece right after my performance. I know how it feels when you have a piece completely learned, but it's hard to put feeling into it. I found that the more you play the piece, the more comfortable you feel with how it goes, and without knowing, you'll add in this rubato and stuff, and won't realize it until you actually pay attention to how you're playing it! I wish you best of luck with that piece!
