They aren’t pitchers. They were position players, so they don’t want to hurt their arm when the do play their set positions.

Both teams brought in non-pitchers at the end. This saves the bullpen arms in a game that is essentially over. It’s actually fun to watch them.

The one thing I do not understand being a Yankee fan since like 1987-1988 back when I was like 7-8 years old. They never steal any bases, I mean they do sometimes but not like other teams. Now not sure if it is because they do not have a good lead off man who can get on base or what. With this team this year, even when Volpe gets on base, he rarely steals second. Now who is making that call? Is it Boone or Volpe? The Yanks never play small ball and rely on the long ball. Get on base, steal second, get to 3rd on a grounder or a base hit and score on a sac or a hit. Start the game with a 1-0 lead. I dunno, just venting, really means nothing.

Gleyber's season officially began last night, as he had basically contributed nothing for a month, Judge finally had a better night at the plate despite striking out, Rizzo is getting hot... Need for all these players to contribute consistently, or else we're a 1-man team, like the last few years, except it would be everything on Soto now. Yanks need to immediately tie him to an extension, trade for another pitcher, and next offseason improve the bullpen and get 1 better hitter.

Having rested bullpen pitchers and utilizing them at the right time is a very important part of having an overall winning baseball team. If you are losing 11-1 late in a game, there’s no point in sending out an actual pitcher from your bullpen and wasting them, potentially making them unavailable for the next game when you have already essentially lost. In those scenarios, teams will send out a position player. The batters are still trying to actually hit against them because those at bats still count towards their numbers (HR, AVG, RBI, OPS, etc.).
