It was free advertisement, and since RWBY was low budget, and lesser known at the time, they didn't want to take the chance of having less effective advertisement by having the character they were advertising for lose.

but wasn't that less than the amount of force it took to knock Yang through that pillar? Granted, she wasn't swinging with 150 tons every time she threw a punch, but Yang up to this point has most likely survived a much stronger strength feat. Overtime, her semblance would have allowed Yang's strength to outclass Tifa's. Since its proven Yang can survive Tifa's limit breaks, and assuming she was absorbing power that whole time, she would not only be able to match Tifa's limit breaks, but surpass them.

If you watch, a lot of the early hits don't even connect. Plus, y'know, that bit about her being durable enough to take that concrete-pillar-shattering punch, that thing they mathed out at requiring 1400 *tons* of force. They pin Tifa throwing Cloud with enough force to break the sound barrier at... 153 tons of force. Sounds like math to me, not Plot Armor.

If you're referring to Supernova... I suspect there *may* be a slight amount of hyperbole going on with the visuals of the ability. Considering it mechanically *cannot kill,* instead doing a fraction of the target's current HP. Also, it can apparently *miss.*

When I first watch this episode. I was like “ok Yang won” but this was before I got into both RWBY and Final Fantasy VII. It was not until I started watching TeamFourStar’s FF7MA and playing the original FFVII I started to question Yang’s victory. After I finished playing the original FFVII, I started watching RWBY and began comparing the feats of Yang and Tifa. That is when I realized Yang’s victory was unjustified and that Tifa should’ve won. And it took them 6 years just for Ben to admit Yang would lose. And the thing that pisses me off the most about the fight was right at the ending it became a commercial for Volume 3 of RWBY. That is one the most sleaziest thing death battle has ever done. As a RWBY fan and a FFVII fan I am extremely disappointed in this shameless excuse of an episode.

A little late to admit that now. What make it worse than other "incorrect" and poorly researched DBs is that this genuinely was biased, and not just fanboys screaming bias because their favourite character lost. I came from the Madara VS Aizen fight which was bad, but can at least be chalked up to incompetence rather than an advertisement for their daddy RT's series.

You know the funny thing is that Tifa used her Premium Hearts, which have EIGHT materia slots to start off with even though Tifa is seen using Fire and Ice Materia, it does not mean that she would never have any stat-boosting materia (aka purple materia or independent materia) let alone not be caring other types of magic materia to aid her in any battle. It's weird to see someone who could hang with Sephiroth get beaten by someone who got their arm cut off as well as get blinded by their rage to the point where it's their biggest downfall

Maybe in that one spot, her aura broke just like Adam cut through her aura on her arm but the rest of her body is still protected. A similar thing happened in the white trailer when Weiss started bleeding on her forehead idk

​​@@zoesequeira5388to further your point i did some extra math, anf found the cloud and his sword combine weigh around 600 pounds. 3 times the rough estimate in the video. This means there would have needed to be at least 6 times the force stated in order to throw him, by factoring the weight and force of gravity increasing as he rose into the air. By that math, i can only assume tifa could have broken yangs aura with a single strike. Yang would never have a real chance against the overwhelming force that is Tifa Lockheart. (Edit: to prove im unbiased, i know a lot more about RWBY, and favor those characters over most others. That being said, i know any character from final fantasy - any of them - coud easily destroy any character from rwby except Salem due to he immortality.)

Her aura would have failed once Final Heaven was delivered. In the lore, the actual games that is, Final Heaven is said to strike with the force of a nuclear blast concentrated completely within the area of a fist. Seeing how her aura can be overpowered, as she has to SURVIVE the attack without any defenses...she'd literally be blown apart by Final Heaven.

@@JayRedGear To be fair, later on in the series it seems like character's auras break from a semi harsh breeze, so long as the plot demands it. I mean, early on in the series, characters would take a fairly significant beating before their auras would break (obviously not enough to let Yang win this match up, but significant non the less), but later on in the series, its like their auras are breaking multiple times per episode, and its just kind of a thing that happens periodically.

***** It was a harmless joke on an internet video. I assume that you're offended by this by you making such a bold statement, but does this really offend you, or do you just think it should?

On a quarantine binge, rewatching this Death Battle for the first time in years. Animation and choreography still excellent. Results of this one still laughably bad, especially now we know that the folks behind RWBY had input in it. "Tifa shows amazing strength in her limit breaks far beyond anything Yang could take. HOWEVER, she does not show this strength outside of her limit breaks, so it couldn't be taken into account." ?!?!?!?

Well, they're still right: Let's say a city-level character, or at least a character not known for extreme strength like Deadpool: now take him and make him overpower someone like Captain America while hopped up on some kind of steroid. Now take that steroid and make it so he can use it at any time, but add in the fact that it's only a boost to be used to finish a fight or when he's losing. Then add in that that steroid can't be constantly used becuase he has a limited amount. That's the principle, they're both using boosts that they can't use regularly. kind of like how Lucario can move faster than eye-sight, but only in short bursts when using certain attacks. And just to clarify, I don't care about either of these characters, but there are way too many people trying to debunk a non-canon, internet show that exists for fun

@@melissabarnes1063 A Final Fantasy character using a limit-break is not the same thing as saying "Deadpool once won a fight against, I don't know, the Hulk, after taking a shitload of steroids, ergo he must be stronger than the Hulk." It is just an internet show that exists for fun but even without taking the limit-breaks into account, Tifa's attack and defense and experience curb-stomps Yang completely, and knowing that RoosterTeeth had just bought ScrewAttack when this came out just makes it look stupid.

This is why I said: Like Deadpool but on steroids, becuase the limit breaks are temporary boosts in power, like how steroids are temporary boosts in strength.

@@melissabarnes1063 If you run through the maths of Tifa's base strength, plus the Premium Heart, plus the Premium Heart's multipliers after taking damage, then even without any limit-breaks Tifa would utterly destroy Yang in one hit. Bringing in the limit-breaks at all turns it into a complete curb-stomp. Yeah, a limit-break is a temporary boost in power, but so what? Nobody is saying that Tifa's average power output is the same as her most-powerful limit-breaks. But she can still use those limit-breaks, so why does it matter?

@Ivan Teoh Shen Yue I agree with you on this mainly because if feels like they didn't do their research properly. The Mystile armor is Tifa's best armor option, not the Minerva Band. Second, her Powersoul maxes her attack stat at x4 value when she is low on health. Third, if they knew all the materia combinations, they would know that the Final Attack + Phoenix would have ended the fight because Yang would be tired and exhausted and the Phoenix summon would have revived Tifa to full as well as dealt damage.

They've got to. 1) They do extensive research of both their combatants, and age is just one of the basics. They'd use that to help them determine how "experienced" a fighter is, anywho. 2) Screwattack is partnered with Rooster Teeth; I imagine they wouldn't dare miss such basic research on a character from their partner company. :P

Eh limiting Tifa to just fire and ice isn’t giving her everything she truly has at her disposal. There are much more powerful abilities that she has that were left out. I mean Tifa can use Summon Materia but that was left out. She’s also not only limited to fire and ice there’s plenty of materia magic like Poison and Thunder. That’s not counting barriers that could be used to protect her from damage.

They are also limiting Tifa to a tiny fraction of her real strength. Ignoring her best feat, of being able to tank attacks from and deal damage to Sephiroth, if you calculate the amount of force she would have to output, in order to use her meteor strike limit on Diamond weapon, which is a 300 ft tall monster that was made from the earth itself, the limit causes Tifa to throw the target fast enough to light the air around them on fire, which would be around mach 5ish, (their estimate of mach 1, though theoretically true, you don't generally actually see that effect until around mach 5), would be well over 20 times their estimate for Yang's best durability feat. and that isn't even taking into consideration the ability to crit said limit, nor the fact that it comes with 6 other limits of relatively close power.

I wish that were Florida. It would make it even more awesome that it already is. Though, I suppose when you are living on a giant outcropping, that is basically asking for hurricanes to wipe you out, you kind of have to be extra awesome to counter balance it.

I can’t wait for the rematch when: Death Battle is on the verge of merging with Square Enix, Tifa kills Yang inside of Beacon Academy, Those Who Fight Further starts playing when Tifa is about to win, Tifa gets her OG voice actor and Yang does not, and a Final Fantasy 7 Remake part 2 promotional poster is displayed over Yang’s dead body. Oh, that sounds biased, doesn’t it? That’s this episode in a nutshell, just on RWBY’s side of the coin. That's how biased this episode is in Yang's favor.

Yea..... yang completely decimates tifa. Yang's accomplishments are almost that of tifa leaving midgar. Maybe yang is a bit stronger at that point, but tifa would've been strong enough to completely destroy yang had it not been for the sponsorship. Proof in the Ragna vs Ruby DBX fight. There's just no way ruby could beat Ragna canonically. Same for yang. Just DB suckling at the nipple that sponsored them. Can't blame them for that. Still, unfair fight. Needs a redo.

I don't think so honestly. It's kinda hard to judge power scale between licences but RWBY does have some advantages like aura, and dust can replicate or even beat pretty much every FF7 magic. and we have no way of knowing even who should punch harder as I can think of instances for both of these girls where they smash robots that are several hundreds of tons of steel. And Yang's semblance allows her to punch back harder than her opponent so as long as she survives Tifa's best moves, she pretty much won

@@mitsunitaiko1742 Here's the thing When it comes to Dust vs Materia...It is pretty even until we look at the skill of the people using them. Tifa has shown skill in every type of materia, while Yang never really relies on Dust (maybe fire) and prefers to get in close. Tifa is just more skilled with her magic then Yang is with her dust and to add insult to injury Tifa's ribbon would protect her against any status her dust would do. Point goes to Tifa Now on who punches harder...no doubt Tifa does. Sure Yang can punch a man and make him bounce multiple times, But Tifa has thrown Cloud so Hard he broke the sound barrier. Tifa just has far more strength, Yang broke Roman's Bot but Tifa has thrown and killed monsters far bigger such as the omega weapon, the giant snake in the swamp and more. Point Tifa Looking at speed both of these girls are about even with both having dodged lightning, gunfire, and more. really close on this end. But to explain something No Yang does not scale to Ruby's semblance. This is where Materia will come to play. See Tifa can make use of slow, Haste and the like to slow Yang down, While Yang...never really shown to be able to do this, So While Yang has no answer to this, Tifa does. Point Tifa Now we look at Yang's semblance. Yes it is bad ass and a great crutch, but it is limited by her Aura. Now the problem with Aura in RWBY is it is poorly written. one minute they claim "Oh Yang can take 1400 jet liners to the face hurr" But then in the show Yang has been knocked out by Neo throwing her into a train, and once more in One slash by Neo. I find it funny they just excused this outlier and claimed Tifa's strength was "Never shown anywhere else" which is a lie. Even IF we give Yang her "1400 tons" Outlier, Tifa's Final Heaven hit way harder, Sure it'd "reset the power" But Yang ain't surviving it I see no feat of Yangs even coming close to matching the final heaven. But let's give Yang some leeway, let's say she can hypothetically take the 1400 tons of force. Tifa has taken hits from Sephiroth, someone who has taken down creatures FAR bigger than anything Yang has. Not to mention the dude can replicate a god damn Supernova which Tifa can tank. Point Tifa Honestly this DB is a joke. I have watched every season of RWBY and they come no where close to a final fantasy character.

Ya know, I'm keep seeing comments about how "Yang was bleeding, therefore, her aura was gone", but the thing is that in Volume 1 Chapter 14, Jaune fought an Ursa Major, and towards the end of the fight, he was low on aura, but still had a bruise. Lesson: Aura isn't impenetrable, a strong enough hit can go through it without breaking it.

Aura has a limit. It protects you from attacks but the more damage you take the less aura you have. If your aura is low then you're screw. As far as RWBY Jaune is the only character who has been confirmed to have A LOT of aura told by Pyrrha.

+Higaara i actually have a theory on Yangs arm. firstly, its definately not a magic limb regrowth, but in the finale we see Gen. Ironwood reveal that a large portion of his chest and one of his arms are actually robotic, in essence the dudes a cyborg. now we know from the series that these robotics are durable enough for combat (mercury, Gen. Ironwood, Penny), so what if Yang actually gets her arm replaced with a prosthetic one?

Well that battle sure went out with a Yang . . .

To any newcomers to this video, be forewarned: THIS BATTLE WAS RIGGED BY ROOSTER TEETH TO ADVERTISE RWBY SEASON 3, but don't blame the former members of Screwattack. See, this Death Battle debuted during a merger between Screwattack and Rooster Teeth, who were both owned by the same parent company. According to an insider, RT offered to animate the battle for free, if they made Yang win to advertise the 3rd season of RWBY. Because animation is expensive, SA agreed, and now we have the first truly rigged Death Battle on record. Death Battle even admitted this one was wrong in one of their podcasts. And anyone who has played FFVII knows Tifa should've won, simply because the scale of her enemies far outweighs RWBY's. Seriously, when has Yang fought anyone on the level of the WEAPONS, or even Sephiroth? NEVER, that's when.

Watching this five years(ish) on I stil believe Yang SHOULD NOT have won here. Tifa is a in a whole different class. Promo for RWBY. All it was. Doesn't detract from possibly one of the best fights in the series' history! I did a complete breakdown in an earlier comment but meh. Love the fight tho.

I agree, plus Dissidia isn't a good basis for determining her spell limitations. There's only so much you can assign to a character skill wise in that game. If anything, they should've let her have access to an amount of materia equal to the materia slots available to her weapon and bangle. I did like the fight animation and music though 😆

Tifa won this. Just because she prefers Fire and Ice Materia doesn’t mean she would stick to it. She was not equipped with the best Materia. Knights of the Round-W-Summon, Counter Attack-HP Absorb, Final Attack-Phoenix, Sneak Attack-Enemy Skill (Big Guard), Counter Attack-Slash All (Flash=instant death)

The reason for the preference statement is the same reason in the Link vs Cloud fight. When a character is way too player customizable, you have to limit them to what they use most often or what they clearly would use in a fight, then whatever would be their best armor if it isn't stated what they have. For this reason exactly. There are way too many materia that players could choose from to put on Tifa.

@@MILDMONSTER1234 Only if you ignore how Aura is described, how it takes hits for people and that, while it has a limit, Yang's aura took several of those blows that are stronger than Tifa's attacks, excluding the later Limit Break attacks.

@@justinalicea1590 Yang's aura has never taken shots anywhere near as powerful as Tifa is capable of throwing out. Even ignoring Tifa's absolute best feat, she is strong enough to not only lift a 300 ft tall Kaiju, that spawned from the planet itself, which means we can reasonably assume the thing is made from rock/metallic elements, and not only is she able to jump over 30 ft into the air while holding said monster, but she is able to throw it fast enough to cause the air around it to erupt into flames (multiple times the speed of sound). Given, this is a limit break, so its more power than she is normally able to output, but that specific limit is 1 and 7/8 times her normal attacks. So, even taking that power and cutting it in half, for her normal strength, there is nothing in RWBY that holds a candle to that kind of power, let alone Yang tanking it and keeping her aura in tact.

I''ll be dead honest here, this is my least favorite Death Battle ever. Not for the result, but for how they came to such a result (I am not trying to make a "ScrewAttack is biased" argument; anybody who has read any of my other comments know that I don't believe that) as well as the fight itself. Yang's research went by alright for the most part, but I feel I should mention their "concrete pillar" feat. 1,400 tons is how much force is required to break the pillar... _vertically._ As in, the pillar would break if 1,400 tons were supported on top of it. Yang was slammed into it _horizontally,_ which would require far less force to break in such a way. Also, for Tifa's rundown, they calculated her strength based on a feat, but based her defenses on her in-game stats, ignoring her tanking an attack that destroyed an entire city without so much as a scratch. Essentially, I came into this feeling like Tifa would win, and left it, having seen the fight in it's entirety, feeling like Tifa would win. As for the fight itself, Tifa's Dissidia-esque model was really jarring compared to the more stylized, RWBY-esque environments, her ice attacks looked more like glass manipulation, the fight itself didn't even reach 3 minutes, and the 2 characters barely spoke a word to each other, meaning there was no real sense of tension. And it's all capped off by replacing the reveal of the next Death Battle combatant with a promotion for The Industry season finale, denying people like me from speculating the results of the next fight for a while. Overall, this fight just felt like it was rushed to promote the 3rd volume of RWBY and the season finale of The Industry, with all the consequences of rushing a fight being very prominent. Sorry ScrewAttack, but I can't see this Death Battle as anything less than a failure.

+Tharja Is Best Waifu What the video showed was how much compressive force it would take to destroy a 4 ft concrete pillar. Concrete is substantially better at holding up to compressive forces as opposed to shearing forces. Making the compressive force calculated an ultimately useless heuristic as the force being applied by the robot fist is a shearing force which requires the cross sectional area of the fist that came into contact with the pillar along with the angle of incidence to calculate, none of which can realistically be taken from the video. This is further complicated by the fact that as the reinforced concrete beam begins to flex outward due to the force of the robot punch, the weight that the beam is supporting adds to the shearing force. The force required to shear that concrete beam would be significantly less then the force required to surpass the compressive resistance of a four feet of concrete beam.

Feel like a lot of things on Tifa’s side got glossed over, namely Materia. That things that can do everything from summon gods, some of which can destroy nearly a whole planet! To fully healing wounds. In yangs world magic is the end all force that can’t be beat and Tifa has access to magic far more powerful than anything used in yangs world. Not to mention, potions and other inventory items…

Also just Tifa's physical capabilities in general. Not only did they heavily low ball Tifa in that regard, but even just using the numbers that DB themselves provided in this very video, Tifa is still able to punch with about 15 times the force of Yang's best durability feat (and that isn't even including the fact that they miscalculated her durability by measuring compression force instead of shear force, which increased the number by almost 20 times what it should have been.).

Besides the fact that pretty much all the characters in RWBY, let alone the main four, are all OP, as soon as Yang's theme came on, the battle was decided. Might wanna avoid that in the future for fear of being more predictable than you already are ScrewAttack.

Tifa would easily break Yang’s aura before she ever has the chance to use her semblance and even if Yang could activate her semblance before the aura break it’s established in show that if her opponent is too fast, too tough or too experienced they can shut her semblance down hard, all of which are traits that tifa exhibits and that’s not even mentioning how potentially busted she can be with materia.
