Yang Liping is one of the top, most famous, and most recognized dancers in China. She specializes in Chinese ethnic dances (from the various Chinese ethnic minorities), and this dance is her crowning achievement, a peacock dance of Dai ethnic style.

If it is a Dai ethnic dance then why not use Dai ethnic attires which should be very beautiful , rather than use a topless European garment ?

@@yonkylim8247 There are many Dai ethnic dances that do use Dai ethnic attire. This is just one of her performances; I'm sure that she does wear Dai ethnic attire for other ones. This dress is not topless either. It simply is sleeveless, and for good reason, because the upper body requires a lot of mobility, which sleeves would restrict. Also, this dress is a very basic one piece cut that people wear to dance all the time, at this point it is not really European. This dress was also made to look similar to a white peacock.

@@angeliquewu8318 I think, like you mentioned, the dress is to represent a white peacock and we need to see the graceful, controlled movement of her sleeveless arms and hands that convey the idea of the peacock, so beautifully performed.

Totally agree. However, the control over her legs and total body shouldn't be underestimated. The rotations and positions are perfect, in order to accentuate the upper body. 👌🏼

She became a Peacock before my very eyes. Her dancing moved me and I felt shivers.

This is absolutely one of the most breathtaking artistic dance performance I believe I have ever seen. The fluid movements were beyond mesmerizing, I had to watch this several times just because I honestly couldn't believe what she was able to convey the soul stirring perfection of her craft. Bravo my dear, you really captured the soul and spirit of the majestic peacock. Thank you.

Oh wow! Her strength is absolutely flabbergasting 🤯 The sheer amount of effort it takes to control those really slow movements in such extreme poses is indescribable to those who have never tried to do it. I'm so far beyond impressed I can't even adjective anymore 😮

Such majesty and grace, not to mention skill, poise, and composure, her performance is truly enrapturing. It’s difficult to differentiate her spirit with the white peacock she embodies through her movements because they appear so intertwined. Bravo. I’ve never seen a performance quite like this. Also this music is gorgeous

You are so right on that. I hadn’t thought about it but my life is richer and more interesting.I am a loner by choice and it sure helps to fill time. Same thing with the streaming TV. Who needs the movie theater now. Regular TV is watched zero now.

So happy to find this in HD, and with the nice soundtrack too. The camera zoom and angles could be better though. We miss a lot of the nuances of the dance in order to look at the fake eyelashes plastered on her eyelids, which really isn't necessary for us to see. Still, the overall dance makes up for it.

You’re missing what they’re zooming in on - it’s not her lashes; it’s her hand making that iconic peacock face to integral to the dance.

@@KateandBree There are other versions where that level of zoom was not necessary to see the dance of her hand, and the rest of her body, which is also integral to the dance, is not completely out of frame, or is edited in a way that the viewers don't feel like we're missing out on the context. Those videos aren't even HD and this is still possible, so just a little bit disappointed that this video, which IS in HD, felt it was necessary to detract from that front. I realize it's hard to please everyone though, and the camera is no substitute for a live performance in person.

That's funny,I didn't even notice her eyelashes,I was too mesmerized by her dancing.

I can see why she sacrifice a lot to achieve this beautiful dance. No rice. No junk food. No child. Live healthy life. Her movement is amazing 👏 😍 🙌
