Very useful. After 5 years, and a couple of electronics shops that didn’t wanted to even open the case to see what it was, it is now fixed. My kids started to play with the COVID quarantine. A couple of packs of batteries later I started to look for a solution in KZread and found you. Ordered a soldering gun from Amazon and fixed it in 10 minutes (and 30 minutes on soldering tutorials and 10 minutes practicing soldering wires). It was not the same model but very similar (mine does not have a fuse). I checked for continuity from the power jack to the diode as you suggested another viewer and went ahead with the fix.

I was ready to take my keyboard to the repair shop when I came across your video. Well done you've saved me a few pounds and my son copied your steps. Thanks mate

Thank you so much for your great repair video! It allowed me to easily fix my daughters keyboard. She is a music teacher, so she uses it almost every day. It was "eating" AA batteries 6 at a time like KRAZY! Not any more! Your instructions were easy to follow and complete without taking half an hour.

This worked for my YPT-210! The boards are a bit different and the transistor (or whatever it is you solder the jack to) is much closer but it was still the issue and solution!

Hi, I thank you for this video. Just managed to fix similar situation in the Yamaha PSR.e413 Keyboard, however the position of the connectors is different as it is a different model to your example. Thank you very much for posting this technique. Have a nice day.

@@jimmyboy630 I just fixed my psr e413 model the exact same way.... It's a diode next to it around the same distance from the power supply as this one.... I used a hot glue gun instead and it still works perfect

I believe this jumper wire skips the fuse, which could be a hazard. The fuse is in the same circuit as the diode. I think a jumper wire to the proper end of the fuse, rather than the diode, might be a better choice.

Wow you did that so easily! If I have none of these tools and went thru someone else to fix it, what do you imagine that would cost? I have the power adapter issue shown. Also, what tools did you use, in case I decide to get them myself? Thank you.

hi. I have a similar but worse problem with my psr-85. the board is cracked, broken in an area one square inch around that area where it plugs in, so it won't turn on at all even with batteries. can that be fixed, or does the whole board need to be replaced? and if so, is it just cheaper to get another psr-85/psr-500 rather than have it fixed?

I believe I am having a similar issue. The power jack on my Yamaha PSR530 is loose. For a while I was able to jiggle the cord and it would power on if I was careful not to bump it. But now it wont turn on at all. I opened up the back of it and the set up is different. How do I know which diode is the correct one to attach the wire?

Megan Janelle: The way I did it was by removing the board and eyeballing the next part to which the loose pin should have been connected. If it's not clear from the video where that is, you could also use a cheapie continuity checker and tap your way through. Just be sure to test it both ways to be sure you're on the right side of the diode. As an aside, if that last sentence does not nake sense, I would suggest having someone else perform this repair. Done improperly, one might kill the unit or even have it set aflame! Hope that helps, J.

It's hard to go wrong. Weller and Hakko are top of the line, but not necessary, if you're looking to start out with something. Any of the Chinese cheap model sshould work for occasional use (B&Q, Countrywide, The Range, etc.). I like just about anything from a company called Antex... you can pick them up locally from Maplin (UK) or from eBay. I use a low wattage (15-18w) one for quick, everyday stuff. They're super-light and heat up/cool down fairly quickly. That, and a small spool of solder (Maplin/eBay/ etc.) will do 80% of everyday repairs.

Anyone know if there is a similar fix for the sustain pedal on a Yamaha PSR-413? I am having a similar issue with the barrel connector being loose, and tested to make sure the foot pedal isn't the problem.

Could be... I'd look at the circuit board thr connector is soldered onto. You can likely either beef up the solder or epoxy it down, then solder a jumper to another part of the board.

Hi, I have a similar problem with ypt-210 keyboard. With battery the keyboard works but with ca adapter it's not working anymore. Till some days ago it had intermittent power-off. Do you think I've to make the same jumper? In the electrical schema of ypt-210 there is no fuse. Thanks

  • @PermutationCo

From memory (it's been a few years back), there was no actual fuse in my case either. Rather, the power jack on the keyboard was directly soldered onto an internal board with no strain relief. As such, the trace on the board just worked itself loose. I eyeballed the board to figure out the next place the jack should have connected to, and put in a jumper wire. Best way to double check it (in my case) was to jiggle the power jack with the cord plugged in. If I got any life (even a light flash), I knew it was the jack connection and a jumper would fix it. If the jumper proves too difficult (or scary!), you could always make a new jumper connected directly to the + and - of the battery section and use the appropriate voltage adapter directly for that. Fair warning, however... I'd suggest removing the batteries first!

Not sure... If the power light comes on when power is connected, I'd guess it's either a short with the power or the logic board is faulty. If it's possible with your model, try running it on batteries and see if it does the same thing.
