Yamaha YL2C, CT 1 Spring Ride, and New Project intro

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this video I introduce a new future project, the Suzuki GT380 flat tracker, or motocrosser. Then do a spring ride with a couple of the bikes that were almost finished last fall. The Yamaha CT1, and the Yamaha YL2C.

Know the feeling John, everything is just going too fast and is too complicated these days. These bikes are just as fun now as they were then. If you can only get them to run on what is called gas these days.

It's so good Dale to see the two Yamahas being ridden. These vintage bikes definately have something that modern bikes don't. The YL2C reminds me of the FS1/E 50cc I had as a teenager, crikey, almost half a century ago! As I've mentioned before I owned a GT380 so I'm keen to see your triple project take shape. All the best, Darren.

Hey Darren, how's things down under? These old bikes have a soul, new ones mostly don't even look like a bike anymore. You and I know what's more fun. Yes, the 380 is going to be a neat project. Kind of thinking about how to proceed with it.

when i was a kid 15 years old i had a yamaha 305, 1966, you talking bout bad--that thing would peel the sod off the ground when you hammered the throttle, it would not charge the battery back up when you rode it and at that age i could not fix it nor could i find anybody else 2 fix it, so my dad traded it 4 a set of cutting torches one day and i still have the torch and it still works, so now im 65 years old and still ride a chopper, and have a lot of fond memory's of when i was a kid, glad 2 see you hav'en some fun with those little bikes...

Great video Dale, I enjoyed the ride around the neighborhood. The GT380 would make for a nice sprinter, but whatever you do with it will be cool. Never had anyone say anything about it. There are lots of kids on minibikes and dirt bikes riding here on the street in front of the house. It's just not a priority to the local police, they have more important things to worry about. I am starting to gather some thoughts about this GT380 project. It is going to be fun as usual, and a bit challenging. I like that though, take care brother.

Couple of beautiful bikes Dale, I remember when I was in high school I had a DT 175 that was all tricked out it was the blue black and white bike. What a sweet bike that was, of course being an Enduro I rode that bike everywhere. So the Big sky country huh?❤ Always wanted to get out that way I lived in Texas for quite a while 20 years plus building custom homes. Now I'm up in Ohio close to my daughter and my grandchildren. I don't know if I mentioned my other bike my gs650g which I guess the proper name is a katana. Hopefully I'll get to ride it this summer. Not sure though I just got over a blood clot surgery in my leg it was quite an ordeal 8-hour surgery and my surgeon said he didn't think I was going to make it out of the operating room. Hopefully things will work out I'm feeling much better walking a lot and doing things and I have projects myself I have to get videoed and actually finished. Anyhow my friend again a couple of awesome motorcycles from the Yamaha hey days. You take care and God bless

Hey Gigi, yeah, the sun is shining, and the temps are climbing, and the days are getting longer. I am sure you remember how short the days get here in this part of the world in the winter. Not sure where you lived in Alberta, but I would bet you are familiar with the Chinook winds (the native people called them snow eaters) we get a foot of snow here and the next days the winds come in and it's all gone. Have you lost the "eh" since moving down under? You had a little slip there my friend. Hope you have your move behind you and are getting resettled. Moving is a pain. Hope you're on the mend also. Yes, the Suzuki triple project is bound to be a hoot! Once I get some of the projects finished up, I want to get the AS1C out and start on it. I really like those little twins. Thankfully I don't have to hurry, I have it pretty good here. I really enjoy the creative side of fixing and restoring things. Hey Murr, yes, the CTs have always been my favorite, just the right combination of power and weight. Yeah, I knew you would be excited to hear I found a frame. I am getting ready to make the pipe for the 250MX, I have the dimensions for that pipe as supplied by Yamaha in the day. Going to have to try to find dimensions for the 380 pipes. Really ruff when I got them, this one I converted to a CT-1, I have an entire playlist on it, think it is called AT-1 to CT-1. I just really keep my eyes open for them, I carried mail in town here for 20 years and I would find them under the eaves of people's houses, in junk piles in their back yard and at yard sales. Ten years ago, they were still plentiful and cheap, (some people just gave them to me, just to get rid of them) Today, hard to find and expensive. Thanks for watchin.

There’s a heater wire wrapped around a bimetallic stripe in the flasher that gets hot and causing it to bend and break contact then they go out and when it bends back they light back up.

Hey Gary, think it will be another fun project. Yeah....probably need a title for a cafe racer. I remember the Avengers, have you had it running? I think that is a bit smaller than this triple, you might shoehorn it in a DT1 frame. I am going to pull a DT1 frame up from the shed and do some measuring for this 380....I really think the front to back engine location is too short. But got to look at it anyway. Glad to see I'm not the only one out there to try silly stuff like this.

Not here, or in the 9 states I have lived. Most dirt bikes are not sold with a title, only a manufactures statement of origin. I buy a lot of bikes that have only a bill of sale. If I wish to license them, I submit the paperwork along with the bill of sale to the DMV and they will issue a title. Just no need to go through the trouble for a off road vehicle. I have never in my 70+ years had anyone stop me and make me prove ownership of a bike in the back of my truck or on a trailer.

Hello dale! What are the stock sprocket sizes for yamaha ct1

Hi there, it really depends on the model you have, the most common is the wide ratio transmission, sprockets for it would be 45/16. The not as common model with the close ratio transmission (engine serial number will start with 200) will be 37/16.

Hey John, I could see it either way, the nearest dragstrip is 300 miles, haven't heard of a hill climb in these parts in years. Not sure at 70 if I have the courage for either. But good suggestions non the less.
