Yamaha XV535 Virago - Recommissioning (Part 15) Front Brake Master Cylinder Repair - Test Ride

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this fifteen (and really the final) part in our video diary of the recommissioning work that we're doing on our 1997 Yamaha XV535 Virago project bike, we take her out for a test ride, having fitted a Tour Max Master Cylinder Repair Kit.
This really is a problem solved, for the brakes. The brakes worked a treat.
And this really is our final video on our Virago 535. If you've watched the entire series, we hope you've enjoyed it and will join us for our next project.

Just a update on my 535. After I got the master cylinder done it was still soft and unresponsive. I tried to bleed it again and no luck. Figured I had to check the calpier, so I got a new seal kit and had to go over everything. Still couldn't get the thing bleed. After concideration I had to give up and accept I hit a wall to my knowlege and skill so I had to send it to the local Yamaha shop. There was also the problem that I had tried to remove the exhaust for inspection and cleaning when I managed to break a bolt in the front cylinder so that had to be welded to get out. So into the shop it went. I knew it had some other issues so I gave a list of things to be done. Check brakes, check carb sync, valves needed to be done, I had a pair of new fork springs that I wanted installed and change of tires. I knew very well it would be expensive as I bought the bike cheap, but I gave them warning that if cost was to hit over 1000 euros I want them to call me. After a couple of days I got a call from the work shop telling me they working hard on the bike but they found some problems. The front rotor disk had cracked. Like litterally cracked. The disk warped when I was braking. So that had to be fixed. 300 euros just for the disk there. And the steering bearing was so rusty and damaged it had to be replaced. Lots of extra work there. But safety first so it had to be done. Bike was ready to be picked up the next day. When I came to the shop they had done 16 hours of work on the bike. I had provided most of the parts except the brake rotor. All and all they wanted 2800 euros for the job. I started laughing not knowing what to do. I payed 2000 for the bike. After a bit of talk and good will from the manager we ended up on 1500 euros. With the 300 extra for the disk I was happy to be honest. Now I got safe bike with up to standard tires, brakes and suspension. No more anxiety about riding the bike. Thanks again for all the help these videos have given me even though I had to get a mechanic to finish it up. It has made me much more connected to my bike. So much I don't think I'll ever sell it. I will most def upgrade at some point, but this one is gonna stay in the garage. Love from Norway. Ride safe. :)

Thanks for the detailed update. I'm sorry the DIY method did not work out for you but it now sounds like you've got a well-sorted bike. Well done on getting a discount from Yamama! Hopefully, any future jobs (there will be some, of course), will be good for you to do yourself. Good luck and enjoy your Virago.
