Yamaha XT250 Oil Change and Oil Filter Replacement

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I FORGOT TO MENTION THAT WHEN YOU CHANGE YOUR OIL FILTER AND REFILL YOUR BIKE YOU'LL NEED TO CHECK THE ENGINE OIL LEVEL AGAIN AFTER YOU'VE WARMED THE BIKE UP. THE OIL FILTER WILL SOAK UP SOME OIL AND MAKE YOUR OIL LEVEL READ LOW. ADD MORE OIL ACCORDINGLY.

Hey guys in this video I show you how I change my oil and oil filter on my 2015 Yamaha Xt250. I use the factory service manual as a guide and stray as necessary.

    Just did this today. Watched this a few times not that I needed to, but its helpful to see others do the same. Mine filled about 1 qt 10oz with filter change instead of the manual's 1 qt 12 oz with filter change or 1 qt 8 oz without. Only thing you didn't do is torque the "Oil filter element drain bolt" filler bolt to spec, 7.2 ft-lb like the cover bolts.

    With the xt225 and the xt250, I've filled the oil to the top of the glass view window many times with no problems. I generally find the bike will lose or burn a little oil over time and bring the oil down to about 3/4ths of the view window anyways....

    Just the opposite on this maintenance. Because it's ridden fairly hard in the dirt, I changed oil and filter at 250 and 600 miles. Both times the oil looked worse than his did at 13K.. From now on I'll feel comfortable changing it every 1K or every season whichever comes first. You can buy part synthetic MA2 oil and proper filter on sale for about $ 15 a change.. I've always felt the first few oil changes were the most important.. Hard for me to believe anyone actually didn't change oil for 13K miles.

    You can see copper washer at 8:30 but I don't think he replaced it. The manual says to inspect the washer and replace if needed. Some people recommend changing it every other oil change, just like they do with the oil filter, every other oil change. A filter and washer are cheap enough that you can replace it every oil change, ~10 bucks total from a dealer.

    Good idea to start the bike after all this and check the oil level once more. It will drop a minuscule amount once the oil filter is saturated and may hold some oil in the filter/ filter housing.

  • @spydie
    @spydie3 жыл бұрын

    Where were the 3 "O" rings? I only saw one. The gaskets on the filter don't count. Also, all oil should be detergent oil. What you don't want in a motorcycle is friction modifiers like in car oil. So use only oil designed for wet clutches. Good video otherwise.

    Hello, I had seen a few of your videos when I was in the market to buy a Yamaha XT250 and even bought a gear shift indicator for it on-line. However, I discovered and started looking into the Kawasaki Versys X-300 which I purchased about a month ago. The gear shift indicator cost me $53 but I am willing to send it to you, no charge, as long as I can find a good home for it. The Versys X-300 had this feature and fuel gauge standard in its instrument panel. So, if you would like to have it, get back to me, through the email of youtube, I'll get your address and send it to you or I can give you my phone number. Whichever is easier. I live in Tucson AZ. If you are ever in this area, about 8 hours from LA, I can give it to you. It hasn't even been out of the box. Take care.
