Need to know how to correctly service a foam type air filter as used on many off-road dirt bikes and ATVs? This video, forming one of the many workshop tasks completed on a 2013 Yamaha Viking shows you how to clean, re-oil and prepare the foam element as part of a service on the vehicle.
Here I use Genuine Yamaha foam filter oil, however, there are many alternatives available on the market including spray on types too, though these work out to be much more expensive and I find them not to apply such an even coating of the filter oil.

Best filter service video. Only one i have seen that mentioned the grease step.
Warm soapy water using dawn dishwashing liquid works for cleaning any foam element. Rinse with warm water and allow to dry. After that, spray K&N oil to cover the exterior and install.

I’m having trouble reinstalling the air filter. Don’t quite understand how it locks in there
would have been nice to show where its located and how to remove it also. I hear its under rear seat somewhere.

it is under the middle rear seat
be gentle with those tines. I broke those off one time... made for a bad time because no one has that part in stock.

Show HOW to remove air filter

Just remove the centre seat & sound baffle plates. Then the 6 spring clips on the lid, remove lid & then grab the air filter cage at the front edge & pull up. Air filter will click out of position & you can lift away. To get the filter element off the cage push in the two tabs at the closed end & this will separate. The foam then needs to be gently teased away from the cage - they can stick due to the filter oil so be careful or it can tear Cheers Andy
