This is about as it gets folks. For all of you who are talking about it being out of tune, it's very difficult for this instrument to stay in tune. It's not the player it's the axe...

It looks like a professional musician can beat this thing into pretty good intonation and tone quality. Most average folks will have trouble getting this good of a sound out of it, but it is still a fun looking instrument and YOU are doing the playing. I remember a long ago interview with the great horn player Dennis Brain where he demonstrated how a brass instrument works on just a piece of garden hose pipe. He made it sound impossibly good and very like a French horn. I see the Venova as something a professional might use when on casual travel to keep up with exercises and technique training.

It also works wonders for non professional musicians that want to learn to play a sax sounding instrument but cheaper and more portable. I'll soon will get one of this, jamming must be fun.

Dude u scared the crap out of most people that read it and wanted to try... For real. The only "inconvenience" is to learn how to make the reed to vibrate 🤷‍♂️ all other was the same f*cking flute u learn in every average school... at least here in Spain 🤷‍♂️ it just sounded quite well in a couple days 🤷‍♂️ it isn't like this record, of course... but ways better than the typical 1€ plastic flute used in the school 🤷‍♂️ (just bought a red version soprano one that cost 95€ (under 100$) including urgent transport to Spain when I wrote the last message here) 🤷‍♂️

Calvin H It's actually the Yamaha Venova, which is a brand new instrument that was created by Yamaha a few months ago. It's condensed so that it has the tone of a saxophone but the fingerings of a recorder. It's actually quite an interesting instrument!

Yes. The bumps underneath are "meandering pipe" which shorten the length of the instrument, and the projection at the top front is a "branching pipe" which mathematically turns the cylindrical recorder shape into the equivalent of a conical saxophone shape (without actually changing the shape of the body).

It's not a plastic pipe, it's an instrument designed by yamaha that is basically a compressed saxaphone designed to be as simple as a recorder.

Lo bueno es que por algo menos de 100€ lo encuentras bien fácil nuevo... (Por 50 de segunda mano casi nuevo sin boquilla ni lengüeta) y tienes un instrumento bastante fácil de aprender a tocar (por la digitación alemana que enseñan en la escuela al menos en España) y que suena de escándalo para ese precio (para mi gusto mejor que saxos de bajo nivel que cuestan incluso el triple que este cacharro) 🤷‍♂️

I think a lot of people misunderstand the purpose of this instrument? Is it meant to be added to the orchestral sound? No. A solo instrument? No. What it does do, and does better than any other instrument in my opinion is give beginners a realistic enough analog into reeded instruments and inspire people to pick up a saxophone or clarinet without such a high entry price. I’m a music student at university and I’ll be buying one to learn single reeded instruments

Sinceramente amo este video donde se ve tan clarísimamente cómo digita toda la pieza 🤷‍♂️ no soy músico profesional aunque sé tocar (autodidacta) varios instrumentos... y toda mi vida me la pasé sacando las canciones "de oído" (gracias a Dios, o a la genética, que hizo un milagro) y aunque puedo leer partituras muy muy despacio (es lo que tiene sacar las cosas "de oído" y que mi educación musical sea simplemente la de la escuela) esto ayuda bastante a la gente como yo. Por cierto me encantó la interpretación... veo que aún me queda mucho por aprender en "el arte de hacer vibrar la lengüeta"

Lots of reed instruments do, it’s something that players find ways to fake around, extra vibrato and bends on certain notes, things like that. The instrument is still young so people haven’t figured all of that out yet

Mainly because some of the high notes people try to play on this thing are out of its operational range, so they have to overblow to get the notes out.

The idea is to be playable, like a recorder, which is entry level. Kazoo level (love it) should be okay.

This is a reed instrument. Requires practice. No, not at all like a kazoo. Won't be much easier than learning saxophone​. Sorry.

Sax is unique. You can 'sing' with it more deftly than most other wind instruments, so people have always looked for a portable 'axe' to indulge their musical talents when not on stage, in a studio or officially practicing. Problem is they are expensive, get lost or damaged and awkward to tote around. People have been looking for something like this since I played trumpet, in the '60s and '70s. But we've yet to see one that's as good as a Selmer Alto, or Yamaha tenor sax. Much better now than 20 years ago, that's a given. I hold hope that one day the few bugs (tuning) remaining will abate, and we'll all go to hell in a band, in the groove as we march over the cliff.

Sounds good, but it's struggling a bit with tuning , especially lower tones.

he visto videos donde hay musicos q critican mal a este instrumento lo tocan y parece q lo hacen sin ganas con equivocaciones, etc. y cuando veo videos como este veo q en realidad no es tan malo y es mejor de lo q parece

Just that plastic clicky sound sometimes spoils everything. And - not sure if my ears are correct - but upper tones seemed slightly out of tune when played quietly, at least compared to keyboard. But when playing loud, they sounded ok.

I doubt it's a reed issue, but it's either the design or an embouchure issue on this instrument that's different from a normal sax.

Just got mine in today. The mouthpiece comes off and there is a cleaning cloth that is run through like Dante mentioned. Pretty simple and quick.

Because it is. Naturally doesnt hit certain chromatic notes perfectly in tune, and you have to wrestle it into tune with your mouth shape. Its hard for woodwinds because the mouthfeel is exhausting like a brass instrument
