Great video! I love your videos! They are right to the point and I appreciate that. The tw is a unique bike and it is very underestimated. It’s a can do bike in situations that most people just don’t get. I got my 2021 back in august and I’ve put almost 1500 miles on it. It does what you ask of it. Keep up the awesome work and I appreciate everything that you do to keep everyone informed and interested!

Hey Bob!! Thanks for the compliment and I am really glad you like the videos! I agree with you, the Tdub is underestimated because it doesn't have all the fancy stuff that the new bikes do. However, I think because of that it does what you stated above, it does what you ask of it and it gets you there every time! I've got more videos coming down the pipeline so if you see anything or have any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks again!
So happy I got my TW! It's been getting me out of my comfort zone more than going back country hiking ever did. Over the past year so many people have started back packing here in Washington that the trail heads and campsites look like all the places I'm trying to get away from. The TW is my secret that takes me up the roads no average joe could drive up and here in Washington dirt bikes and ATVs aren't aloud up these roads either so I pretty much get it all to my self!

Man that is crazy! We have a canyon down here like that, it is popular for Rock Climbing and it is just getting busier and busier. We rode out there the other day and there were people everywhere, but it is a trail head that gets you into some awesome country.......good thing they only climb rocks and not ride motorcycles! I'm stoked you finally got your Tdub and enjoy riding! If you ever bring it out to Utah let us know and we'll show you around!

I hope to visit the PNW one day. So beautiful out there.
2300 miles on the stock front tire and most of it on various gravel roads in New Mexico, Utah, Idaho and Wyoming. The rest is just my opinion: I really think it's all in people's head. If no one called the tire the Deathwing, not as many riders would ever notice. No reason to swap out the tire until it wears out. I suspect most riders don't pay attention to tire air pressure and don't adjust it for the terrain (and perhaps wash out on gravel). I'll try another tread pattern when the stock one wears out and at that time I'll have a better opinion.

Hey Matt, great video and all great upgrades - I have a 2017 TW and did so many of the upgrades you did (Shinko, Ricochet skid plate, risers and the best was the Cycle Racks rack - I call it the car bumper & deer hauler it is so big, lol!). I went with a 47 sprocket for more speed at the top end and now I can use 1st gear for more than 10 feet, haha. I don't have the hills and montains here for the 50-52. I went for the seat concepts seat foam/cover and am happy with that over stock. All you need now is Double Take ram mount mirrors, something to check out. Nice review Matt. I appreciate you taking the time to make it. I myself have owned 3 TW200's. I'm 68 and am on my third at present. I've ran many trails of all types and the stock tires seemed to handle them all quite well. I did change them eventually due to the fact that the tires were 12 years old when I purchased this '07 I have. They only had 587 miles on them when I bought the bike. Anyway, it's a great little "tractor bike" as I call it. It might not get you there fast but, it WILL get you there. At 6' 2.5" and 245 lbs., I figure I'm about max for that little bike. It moves me around pretty good. And that's with the stock sprockets. I think they're one of the most versatile, smaller *Dual Sport* bikes one could own. Nice video. Scott

Hey Scott, thanks for taking the time to watch and to leave a comment! I'm finding that a lot of folks have had more than one TW and that I am not alone in wanting more than one of them! I was pretty happy with the stock tires for the most part and I changed the front on my 2019 to the SR241 and really liked it. I saw those Dunlop K180's and thought they would go good with the Street Tracker build I want to do on a TW so I had to buy them. I gave the stock tires to my brother who had bought a 2003 TW and it had the stock tires that were beat. I'm not too far off your weight and the bike hauls me just fine. I usually ride with me and my wife or my kids and it still pulls us around like it's nothing. Thanks again and Best Regards! Matt

@@MOBStreet83 Hey Sir, You're quite welcome. As far as tires for the T-dub, well, as stated, I ran the stock ones for a while after I'd purchased the bike and I'm still alive to talk about them. But, I figured the tires were 12 years old when I bought the bike so, I tested my limits far enough. I went out and bought a brand new stock rear and, I purchased a new Kenda 270 (5.10-18) for the front. The only issue I have with that front is it's a little tough to steer on the pavement, in tighter turns. For the most part, it's fine. But, these little bikes are great fun, as long one is cognoscente of the limitations of it. Scott
Nice presentation Matt. Looking at smaller bikes like the Royal infield Himalayan and the 250 Honda’s but I like the T 200. I Bought a1978 750 cc Yamaha special brand new so I am sort of partial to Yamaha‘s however when I retired and moved to Florida I bought a leftover 2007 883 sportster in 2008 and then traded it in on a 2009 road king which I still have and will keep but looking to go smaller and lighter now that I’m a little bit older. Good luck and ride safe. Pablito from Jupiter Florida.

Thanks for chiming in, I really appreciate it! I'm in Central Utah. We have hills and trails and mountains to ride all over the place. There is a desert run I want to do and kinda hit some of the old Utah highways and scenic places. I need to get out that way some time and see the South! Tons of history out there as well!
I recently bought a TW, and I liked it from the start. I got it for riding single tracks here in Idaho. I tried a single track that I found on my XT600, and had a disastrous 1 mile ride. That thing is tooooo heavy, and tooooo high geared for a trail. For my new 200, I ordered an X Ring chain and a 55 tooth rear. I ordered a big rack, skid plate, and handle bar protectors. I will get the risers I think. I made some riser/set-backs for the 600, and that made a big difference. The sad thing is, on my SECOND ride, I was testing the 200s limits on a nasty steep rocky hill. I got turned around easy enough, and before I was completely in control, the front end washed out on the 4 inch gravel and I tipped over. The handle bar savers worked very well, BUT, the bike died and would not restart. NO power anywhere. No lights, no horn, no starter!!! I was on top of a mountain, and could not get down to a road. I called my buddy and told him where to find the keys to my 2500 Dodge 4x4 truck and asked him to come up and rescue me. The pickup just barely made it up that hill. It was seriously steep, and that little 200 went up it like a champ. The bike only had 90 miles on it, and now it is the Yamaha shop. The stock tool kit, I might add, is absolutely worthless. I started riding dirt bikes in 1966, and this is the first one that quit running and left me stranded. I have broke things before, but that was my fault. This NOT RUNNING condition is not my fault. 99% of the time, I ride alone, so this concerns me. There are sooooo many awesome reports about this bike, I hope that this problem was a fluke. I will, however, never leave home without my off-road tool kit that I made for my 600. At least I could have taken off the seat with it. I am a retired heavy equipment mechanic, so I like it that this machine is not computer controlled. I use to ride Yamaha 175 enduros, and this bike has similar power. In my younger days, I would put on 10,000 miles a year on my 175s. I would buy a new one every year. Then I went to a 360, and then a 500 thumper. Then a 550, and finely a 600. It was a 1986 XT600. It was a dirt bike that you could take on the road. This 1994 XT600 is a road bike that you can take in the dirt. There is a difference!!!!! I liked your review, and subscribed.

Hey Rat Builder. I am really sorry to hear that. The only thing I can think of is the battery cables aren't connected tight enough. I had a buddy that was having that same problem and we found that the cables weren't tight enough. If he was off the bike he wouldn't have power, if he were on the bike it would start but then cut out if he hit a bump or something. I hope it isn't anything major and I don't think it should be, I have bump started mine without the battery connected and it worked fine. It sounds like you couldn't really bump start the bike where you were though.

@@MOBStreet83 Actually, I took one of the MICKEY MOUSE wrenches out of the tool kit and shorted the starter solenoid and got the engine to crank. It would not start. I picked it up today, the problem was, it was a blown fuse. The Yamaha shop charged me $28 to change the fuse for me. How is that for customer service? I was pissed. I own 2 Yamaha bikes, and 2 Polaris quads. The Yamaha shop is also the Polaris dealer. I will never darken their doorstep again. If they piss off enough people like they have me, they will go down the tubes. When I worked at a Honda shop, we would not charge people for simple stuff like replacing a fuse. Great review I do prefer to swap front sprockets vs changing the rear you can choose from 11 tooth to 16 tooth (16 tooth made by PBI for the XT225 but it fits the TW) each tooth up front equates to aprx 4 teeth in the rear but you can use the stock chain length with all front sprocket sizes and you can change gear ratios using the stock chain length

Thanks, I appreciate it! I didn't know that there were that many options for the front sprocket. The only downside to swapping out the front sprocket on the TW is taking off the left side case......not that much fun but not that bad either. Thanks for the comment and the insight.

@@MOBStreet83 I hear that re the left side cover but changing the rear wheel and the sprocket bolt and lock tabs then adding or removing chain links is no picnic but the left side cover removes quite easily especially on lower mile bikes it pops off 80% of the time and you can reuse the gasket but if you do break the gasket clean the surfaces and only use gasket sealer on one side when reinstalling I like to seal the gasket to the cover so if I do ever have to scrape I can do it on my bench now you can literally swap gears at the trailside in 10 minutes w/o changing chain links or lifting the bike!

hello! i'm thinking of buying a tw200 for my first bike, the little road driving i'd be doing would just be around half an hour or so on the main road to the lake there and back which seems doable, and generally exploring around to find dirt tracks... i'm happy to sit at 55mph, it'd be my first bike and i'm in no rush. my worry is about how capable it is at going up steep hills. where i live in spain is full of tracks that only the farmers use (and plenty of other people on their dual-sports), however - where the road ends and turns into tarmac again when you get back to town on that route is very steep indeed. i can cycle up it in the highest gear without much trouble, but have no experience with motorbikes. i know other people drive up it with their white vans all the time, and every weekend i hear a handful of other motorcyclists manage it without any problem... does anyone have any thoughts on the TW's ability to tackle steep sections when necessary? thanks!

Good Call!! The XT is a great bike and I know what you mean about the TW pricing, people are asking way to much for them right now! That is why, when I could, I bought brand new machines because the used ones were almost as much as new! Good work on getting a bike though, being able to ride is what matters.
Great review Matt! I'm looking at getting my first bike in the next couple of months, would you say that this bike is one of my cheapest options on insurance?
@MOBStreet83

Thanks, I am glad you like it! My insurance on these is about $7 a month....I think that is pretty decent but there might be others that are better than that. But, since it is a low engine cc and it isn't a very expensive bike, or very fast I would say that this is on the lower end of the scale for insurance cost.

You’ve chosen this model Over the XT250. Is that simply because of the mechanical aspects of TW over the XT? I’ve sat on both at my dealer, and sold Yamaha back when the TW was a newer model. I think the TW feels way more at home, but the XT seems way more sophisticated with its fuel injection, 520 chain, slightly taller size, and ergonomics. All the bikes I own have fuel injection, and I like them a lot. I’m kinda torn between the old technology of carburetors and fuel injection. Since you’re a mechanic could you please clarify?
@MOBStreet83
2 жыл бұрын
Hey John! Thanks for the question. Yes, I love the simplicity of the machine and the mechanical simplicity of it all. I wanted a bike that I could rely on that didn't have a bunch of electronics on it. I have had plenty of times where my battery has died on a ride and I have been stranded. The TW will run without the battery and it will still deliver lights on the machine. It is not hard to work on, nothing has really changed over the last 30+ years on the bike so the parts pretty much cover all years. Plus, I really love the look of the bike. I like the short and stalky stance it has. I love that it doesn't have a ton of power but it will get you where you want to go. It is a great little bike.
