A little trick id recommend to all new viewers is updating your volume settings, limiting the "max volume" (avoids someone cranking up your system to dangerous levels) and setting an "initial volume" level so your system will always be set at a safe volume level when turning on your receiver. This way you can avoid blowing out your system.

Great video. No sponsored ads, no talking about some other video. You hit record and jumped into it! Thanks!
first guy that actually goes through the receiver's menu, not like the other plebs on youtube! well done! :D
I literally just brought mine home today an setup this evening using my 5.1 system, until I upgrade to the true atmos speakers in a month or so. But maaaan, you saved my LIFE! My YPAO failed an everything was set to default settings, an you helped me sooooo much I feel like I should be paying you haha. This is the exact video I needed just simply going through and explain the basics of each category. Much appreciated 🙏
Just got mine delivered yesterday and setting it up today. Thanks for the run through!
Yamaha should hire you. New to the home theater world i was so lost and the included instructions are useless. You rock, thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
Fan-tastic!! I just bought mines and I had no idea what the hell was going on. Your tips are lifesaver!!!!
Thank you so much! I couldn't get our Zone 2 to work right and it turns out our setting was wrong. You covered it RIGHT off the bat. 2.25 minutes in and BOOM...we're rockin' out on the outside speakers. Mahalo from Oregon!

Highly recommend to set up color keys as dim + and -. This way, you can quickly dim the led panel for movie nights without having to dig in the menu hierarchy.

Thank you so much!!!!! I want to learn how to set up and control the volume in my 2nd room same music but lower volume. You were fantastic. The guys that sold me the receiver were really transactional. They had no idea how to manipulate adjust or rather how to educate their consumers and they are a high end audio shop. So thank you very much!
Thanks for taking the time man! Helps me a lot cause I am a first timer in a Yamaha. Have been using Onkyo for the past 15 years. The entire menu and navigation, terms are so different here.
Thank you for adding the part at the end about having to recalibrate...I was messing with those settings and I couldn't get my front atmos speakers to work at the same time as my back surround...so recalibrating fixed it! wooohoo!

Just so others know; I was having a problem where, nothing was working through any of my HDMI’s. The only thing working was my tuner. It was playing music fine. FYI - The higher you set the crossover subwoofer the "more" it will work and kick in. If you don't want it to work as much as you stated in your video, set it lower at 80hz or below instead of the 100hz like you have yours set at. In my home system I have my subwoofer crossover set at in the 80 - 60hz range depending what music I'm playing.
@Turtleback8024

How do you cross a subwoofer over on the V6A? I could cross my L+R, C, SR, SL over to their respective crossover points. But the subwoofer doesn't have a crossover setting at least on my V6A? In regards to having to crossover your speakers higher to get the subwoofer output (I guess you're referring to 2ch stereo listening?🤔), I've heard that to get the subwoofer output in 2ch stereo , you'd have to configure your speakers differently from the YPAO settings, i.e FRONT: Large, with EXTRA BASS turned to "ON", meaning you'd have to run your FRONTS "Full range" and EXTRA BASS will bring the subwoofer on. Terrible bass management by Yamaha!!! Now there's extra demand on the Receiver, and added load on the speakers, risking the Receiver's possibility to run hot! This is just weird!!!
I was thinking about this and having second thoughts about updating my old system from 1993...JVC 5.1, until you showed the rundown of the remote and screen setup navigation. Thanks . I just need to pick the AVR now. Looks the Yamaha is very similar to the older system, which works great too.

Tthanks for responding to my question a few weeks ago...your suggestion worked..NOW I have another problem - This morning, I turned the yamaha TSR-700 on, then watched some youtube, then we watched TITANIC....but while we were watching the movie, I pressed SET UP..but the settings did NOT appear,, I tried OPTIONS...still nothing! The Yamaha was working last night, even with the headphones plugged in...but I unplugged the headphones this morning... ..nothing... now, keep in mind that the remote control DOES PARTIALLY work.. it will adjust the volume of the sound, I can select STRAIGHT or any of the surround modes.. YET.. I can not see SETUP... do you have any suggestions how to restore the SET UP or OPTIONS? THANKS!
Thanks for all of this information. So much to go through initially. Question, I have my cable box, Apple TV, and a PlayStation in first 3 hdmi inputs with the output to the Tv. Upon startup, receiver automatically starts in “TV” mode and I have to change the source to hdmi 1 every time I turn it on. Is there any way I can make the hdmi1 the default startup port? Thanks for your time!

I’d do basic cable checking. As in; are they seated properly, not crossing any power cables. If so also check TV for “hdmi enhanced setting” on that input. If still persistent change HDMI mode to mode 2 on the Yamaha. Hope that helps.
Thank you sir
when u did your HDMI labels, where exactly are they supposed to show up?? is it inside the HDMI setting where you label it? (like your xfinity) or is there a way to have the label show up BEFORE you drill into edit the HDMI name? Very nice walkthrough of all the menu options. I'm planning to buy this amp so this video will save me a lot of time when I install it. Just a question, do you know if it's possible to have 5.1.2 config with Bi-AMP'ing to the front speakers? Thanks! ;-)
@sugarey
3 жыл бұрын
If I recall bi-amping is like a pre-amp where the signal can pass through. If that’s what you want to do yes that should work. Is your goal more front/left-right action? Another option is using Zone 2.
Very good video
We are trying to get the TSR-700 to work a Samsung UN65TU 7000F TV using cable and a single remote and Alexa. The question I have is the main zone always powers up to HDMI 1 and so we always have to change to HDMI 2 where the cable box is. I did not see anywhere in this video where I could change the default zone to power up to HDMI 2. My older receiver just stays on the last Input played. Can I either default mine to default to HDMI 2 or even last zone played?
Thanks !
Very useful
What do you use for the surround mode? I am using the AVR in TV Audio mode using the E-Arc. TV does see the AVR as a Dolby Atmos device just fine. No inputs thru AVR. I want the AVR to be in an Auto decode mode pretty much, just decoding whatever the TV puts out. I sit best to use Straight mode so the AVR does no extra processing, or should i manually set it to Dolby Atmos? Thanks!
Thanks for the information! When I turn on my xbox it switches the AV input to my TV. If I switch the AV to my xbox setting it won't show the picture, but if I turn off my xbox then switch to the AV receiver then turn it on everything works fine. Any idea on how to get the receiver to stop switching the input when I turn on my xbox? I also had one day where none of the inputs showed video. I had to cycle the receiver by holding the power button until it blinked, I hope this helps anyone else with the issue.
hello, excellent video, but I have a question: The first is in relation to xbox series x, my rx-v6a already has firmware version 1.53, but in the console configuration the ALL-VRR function appears disabled. what would cause this problem? thank you very much for your videos.

I have a Yamaha TSR-700 with a 7.1 speaker setup. Sound works great when on my Bluray 4k Player, decoding 7.1 ch sound track and all speakers work as they should. When I switch to my NVIDIA Shield and stream 5.1 ch encoded content, the rear speakers get disabled and the left and right presence speakers become the rear speakers. It is absolutely driving me insane on how to fix this. Is there a setting that I need to use ... there many other people that are struggling with this.
Do you know if I can add wireless speaker to existing 5.1 wired speakers setup? Thanks!
Semper Fi! Great video. ATMOS I have the speakers to support the RXV6. My question is do you have to select this option in settings or is it automatically playing through the speakers? Thanks..

Hi, this unit have some cooler inside for temperature treatment?
Can you use Surround Back and presence to drive 2 pairs of speakers in zone 2 ? This is of course if you only choose 5.1
Nice video. If you choose to set up speakers in zone 2, can you play a different source than what might be playing on the receiver while using the TV. Confused as to whether adding an additional amp is required to push a source (i.e. radio, something over bluetooth like spotify, etc.) to the zone 2 speakers.

It’s meant more for using the same source. You can change the volume though.
Thanks!!! This really helpful for someone who doesn't have the experience of adjusting sound and video for optimal use. Q: is there a way to adjust the incremental step of the volume control either for the remote and/or knob on the receiver.
@sugarey
3 жыл бұрын
When you say incremental are you looking for smaller “gains” as in; fine tuning volumes? If so no BUT the default incremental are very low gains so default fine tuning has been pretty flexible.

Looks like you've had this system now for about a year, tell me how it's performed over the year?
How can I get the volume level of Yamaha to display on TV screen ?
Great video, thanks! So you have your cable box connected to the AV. That means you have to run the AV every time you watch tv? I was going to leave cbl plugged directly to my tv and run audio out of tv to AV via component cbls since I only have 2 hdmi ports on the old tv.
@sugarey
3 жыл бұрын
I do run the AV all the time. If you’re ok with running two remotes you could use the power button on TV and AV. So if your power on your TV it won’t turn on your AV kind of action. There’s a little more to it if your interested.

@@sugarey I decided to use a hdmi splitter switch, to switch cable box (source) between my tv and the AV for the occasion there's a program using Dolby I'll want to hear. Thanks for responding! . Weeks later update: I discovered I can play stb/cbl source through AVR while it's turned off (it passes thru). The stb/cbl input must have been selected at AVR power off. Hey Rey, love the video. One of the things I haven't seen is an option to enable Dolby Atmos on surround decoder type. I'm running a 5.1 setup right now so I'm wondering if because I don't have the atmos speakers, it does not give me that option. Apologize for the delay. Yes at this time if you don't have ATMOS speakers wired it will be "greyed out". You have to choose to run 5.1 ATMOS or 7.1 DTS. I ended up with ATMOS due to more movie watching for me.

@@sugarey , I have a 7.2.2 setup but I can’t find this option at my yamaha receiver . Would you know where to find it in the receiver? Maybe it has a different name… but basically I have 2 Atmos speakers and 2 subwoofers on the floor 15 inches each, along with 7 in-ceiling speakers. Btw, I have different impedance for different speakers… need to see if I can setup impedance individually for each speaker.
i have the tsr700 and the sub output is almost nonexistant unless i max out the bass settings in the amp which makes the bass sound unnatural and sythesized. how do i fix this?
Thanks so much SUGAREY! This helped a lot! One quick question. I am setting the levels on my TSR-700. What volume level should I set the receiver at, when using the test tone to read the tone with a decibel meter? I am only able to achieve 57dB, and not the recommended reference level of 75dB. I am using Klipsch Reference speakers, which should easily be able to handle the load.
@sugarey
3 жыл бұрын
What I do is start with the YPAO/RSC configuration. Which then I believe the sweet spot for my TSR-700+Jamo speakers is ~56-60 volume (I change from db). From there I use the test tone and distant to tweak to my personal preference. Hope this helps.
@johnnybolton6524

@@sugarey Thanks! I initially ran YPAO. I still wasn't pleased. I did adjust back to dB volume, set to 0dB, and used the level settings. The biggest difference was a surround setting was set to a music hall. I changed to standard. After the changes, it ROCKS! Everything I expected. Paired with Klipsch reference speakers, larger center channel, and front bookshelf speakers, the TSR-700 is a sweet machine!

I appreciate the comment and glad I could help my friend. If you set the speakers to 80hz for example - your sub will receive signals 80hz and below. Sugarey...well done and worthy of a like AND a subscribe. Question. With eARC, is there any reason to keep plugging all of your inputs into the receiver? With the capability of HDMI these days, why not plug blue-ray, PS2, etc, into the TV, then get your audio via eARC to the receiver?
@sugarey
3 жыл бұрын
If I could hide all the cables in-wall I would go definitely run all HDMI direct to TV then eARC to receiver purely for video quality. For my current application I run my them through receiver so there’s only one HDMI and power through my cable management rail. Dolby ATMOS requires eARC but sounds like you’re all good my friend.
Love you SugaRey wish you were my neighbor. Thanks so much
