Yamaha Tracer 9 GT Vs Yamaha Tracer 7 GT - Which is Best?

After a very long wait, i have finally managed to release my latest video where i compare the Tracer 9 to the Tracer 7, and the results may disappoint you Tracer 9 fans...
The Tracer 9 has a ridiculously good engine, but that's about it, and it would not be the bike i would choose for my travels...
Still on the list are the Ducati's Multistrada and Desert X which i personally adore, and to spice things up a bit, I'll also be trying out the Africa Twin and of course, the undisputed BMW GS....
Let's do this!

    I was a tracer 900 owner between 2015-2019. I agree with your comments. it has sports motorbike performance and suspensions, but it was tiring me in the city and therefore I sold it, I regretted selling it a year later and now I am thinking of buying it again. I am not a traveller, I usually use it on asphalt roads in the city, but our roads may be the worst roads in the world, all roads are full of bumps and potholes. As someone who is over 40 years old and has a herniated disc, it is important for me that the suspensions and saddle are soft. I looked at the GS1200, but it is too expensive and too big for urban use with traffic. You do not recommend the Tracer 9 for a few reasons that I find justified. I am looking for a motorcycle with a soft saddle and suspension, with bags large enough to put 2 helmets and a motor jacket inside. sometimes I can reach speeds of 250 km on intercity roads, in this case I don't want to be beaten by the wind. for tracer 9 that was very easy to go speed, no vibration but I was being beaten by the wind. I have travelled long distances with Hayabusa and frankly I liked it very much. but the sitting position is no longer very suitable for me. my knee locks after a few hours of riding. so what is your recommendation?

    It doesn’t look like a very objective review of the tracer 9 to me. It’s the lightest in its category, meant for tall riders, NOT MEANT for off road, and for the price you get a hell of a bike. The buffeting is a real issue but you can get a taller windshield from Yamaha which resolves the problem. Look might not be the best, it’s a bit subjective, But ugly I don’t think so

    Hey there 👋 Thanks for your comment 👍 The objective of this series is to find a pair of bikes i find perfect for our needs as travellers. Bikes that are great in real-life travel scenarios and not just to take down to a local starbucks. Indeed this is a fine bike, but I've been through a few more since this video, and my opinion has not changed. I personally would not buy one for myself, because it is not good for what i need it to do. If you love it, i will not debate you. I was interesting in the T9 a while back then I found out it has a speed restriction (first gen) due to high speed instability, not that I ride fast but to me it makes bad sense to put a motor in a chassis that can't handle its full potential. T7 will be the bike I get next if I had to.

    I m an owner of the regular tracer 9... really mate why so much hate? Ok the brakes don't have the initials bite but they will progressively stop you with safe, definitely it's not for track-day.. manoeuvrability 1? Its the lightest dike from it s category, you can't compare it with the tracer 7..it handles very well the 220 kg and as soon as it gets rolling you really can't feel the 220kgs because of how good the geometry of this bike is.. comfort for me is good... definitely its not a 2 compared the 4 you give on the tr7..and you gave 1 to looks? Really its the prettiest sport touring bike ever created..for me it's the tracer 9 and the s1000xr (except its back light) the tracer 7 it s like the bumblebee from the transformer's movie..have you look the new v-strom? What score will you give ? 10/10? With the front light taken from the yamaha xs400 from 1978?...and why you didn't take into consideration the vfm factor? 14.500 for tracer 9 it is very little for what it provides you.. nevermind

    Great review, thanks for this. I’ve watched it a few times now (as well as a bunch of your other reviews). I’m trying to pick my next bike for long distance (100klm each way) commuting, daily rider and occasional touring/camping. Currently riding a Triumph Tiger Sport 1050, which is awesome on open windy roads, but bit of a beast for slow speed manoeuvring. I used to have a 660z Tenere, which I loved and regretted selling, but wasn’t right for the long commutes. The size/power did suit me fine for general use though. The tracer 7 is very much at the forefront as a replacement for me, for much the same reasons as you’ve pointed out. Other options seem to be NC750x (not sold in Australia anymore 😢), V-Strom 650XT, V-Strom 800 RX (jump up in price but more extras including ride by wire, so cruise control possible) and Transalp 750 (tubed tyres 👎) So it s looking like it’s neck and neck between the Trancer 7 and the 650XT for me, which leads to my question: Do you have any opinions regarding the new V-Strom 650XT considering my proposed uses, and in particular how it would compare with the Tracer in this regard?

    I think any touring bike should have some off road ability as you are quite likely to encounter poor roads or diversions along the way. Loaded up with luggage and two up only to find that your Airbnb is unexpectedly at the end of a rough and hilly loose stone track right at the end of a long day's ride can be irritating if your bike is a bit wobbly off road!

As you have experience with putting on a windscreen on trident 660, how did it help the bike's wind resistance on longer trips of yours? • @John_Neves

    @John_Neves

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi There 🖐 The overall protection on one of these bikes will always be superior than a Naked with a screen, because you do get more upper and lower body protection. So in many ways it will be more comfortable for travel. Problem is the dam buffeting. On a Naked with a Screen, you will get more helmet noise, than without, so be aware of that also. But yes, a screen helps a lot with wind resistance and makes traveling much easier. Just do your best to reduce wind noise. A scarf helps quite a bit. No buffeting from my experience though. These are motorcycles. There will always be a degree of wind involved. If it helps, i can travel with all of my bikes. Kawasaki Z1000, Triumph Trident 660, YamahaTT600 and Suzuki Vstrom 1000. But if i'm going for a month long trip, where i know i'll be doing 4 to 5 hundred kms a day, i'll take my Vstrom. It's just so comfortable :) Amazing seat and riding position. A weekend, or a week where i'll be taking it easy, i'll take the Z1000 or the Trident. The TT i reserve for off road trips. Next year me and my wife are heading to Iceland. She'll be on her Trident and i'm not sure what i'll take yet. ahahaha. So there you have it. In the end, what matters is that you love riding and love your bike. It will always adapt to you, whatever the circumstance 👍 Not sure if this helps, i hope so 😁👊

    @@John_Neves Hi 😃 Thanks a lot for your super swift and detailed response. I didn't have the time to show my appreciation till now 😃 I don't expect to be completely free from wind or buffeting like on a FJR1300 and I'm not planning as long trips as you both are doing so I'll probably vote for 1 bike that does not excel in all areas but still provide the great deal of excitement and just enough versatility on asphalt (I got myself a Sertao a couple of years ago and rarely left the pavement, so...) while not breaking my bank with unexpected repairs and Tracer 9 (GT i guess?) seems to be a good fit for that. I've given up on considering MT-09 as you've made me think again with your comment and thought that I'd be too much exposed to elements as I'm living in a colder 🥶 country than yours 😃 However, now quickly went over your comments in the video and seriously is the suspension so hard even in A2 mode that the saddle hits your bum on every single cobblestone? I don't expect to glide over the cobblestones like on a v-strom or any other enduro tourings but I'd at least expect my teeth to not to shatter :) Or the Tracer 9 GT to be if not totally but slightly more comfortable than a Z1000. What would you say? And good luck 🤞 with your search for your next bike. V-strom is such a practical and economical machine that is very tough to replace especially for your purposes.

    @@namsoiled Hi there 🖐 I have a first gen Z1000, and in all honesty i find the suspension more comfortable, but is has manual adjustments, and it will go all the way from soggy to rock hard so it's easy to fine tune to my ride. The overall comfort of the Tracer was great and it's a much more comfortable tourer than a Z1000, I was just not to keen on the buffeting, and the suspension, even in A2, and i've heard others complain... I'm quite sure the manual suspension is more comfortable. These kinds of bikes offer a lot for traveling and i do believe they are truly the best compromise for that purpose. They are not without their downsides of course. There is so much to choose from, it's hard to find the best one. I recently tested the TIGER 1200 Rally Pro, and it was amazing! Best bike so far. But at over 20K, i just can't see it would translate into 20K of pleasure when compared to what i already have... It's just too much money IMO. You are correct, my Vstrom is very competent, and even 20 years old, it still does everything i ask from it. Of course it doesn't feel modern, but hey neither am i :D It's not going to be easy to replace, mainly because I'm having difficulty in justifying spending a huge lump of money VS the pleasure I'll get back. ( Not sure if that makes sense) But lets see. There are some fantastic bikes out their. I just haven't tried "The ONE" yet :) Take care, choose wisely :)

    i love how i completely disagree on most things you said but i also understand why you said them and how it applies to your situation. it's weird, hearing you sort of complain about the t9 and being entertained in doing so at the same time. it's refreshing to hear someone beating down a bit on this bike since every reviewer sounds like they got a fat check to produce a favorable review. that said i testdrove the t9gt and ordered a t9gt+ the same day. for me it'll be mostly used for commuting, having some spirited fun on the twisties, and eating some miles on the occasional weekend roadtrip. i've mostly had sportsbikes before this one and i've traveled on those as well. nothing like what you do tho, that is a completely different type of traveling. 2 days, 600km total around the mountains on smooth asphalt is all i need on a trip, and that's exactly what the t9 is so good in. if i had the money, space and willingness i could have 2 or 3 bikes instead, a sportsbike for the twisties, a touring for trips and a comfy light economical bike for commuting. but i'd often find myself on 1 bike and wanting to use the features of another, for example i'b be commuting on a little 400cc bike, and suddenly get the urge to take the next exit to take an alternative twisty road home that would be perfect for a sportsbike, well guess what, that 400c comfy bike wouldn't scratch that itch. but if i'd take the sportsbike i might miss some of the comfort of a touring bike when im on the highway... therefore the tracer suits me well. oh and i do like the way it looks too

    hahaha. Choosing the right bike is a feat. Most want a bike that will do everything extremely well, but that bike doesn't existe no matter how hard you look. I completely relate to what you say 👍 I guess in the end each person has to decide what they are willing to give up... My last test was a KTM Adventure 390.... And for our last trip which was 15 days through Iceland with that bike, it was absolutely amazing! I would not have wanted a different bike. We may even buy a pair because it fits "our bill" quite nicely... May keep the Z1000 just in case though 🤣🤣 Happy riding. Have fun on the amazing T9 💪

    Funny you use the MT 09 in response to poor suspension review on the Tracer 900 when most people complain about the suspension on the MT 09 even more. How can Yamaha give a 2 cyl the same character of a triple.

  • @rideboyforever
    @rideboyforever11 ай бұрын

    My humble opinion... older tracer 900 gt is better than 9 gt. I own 900 gt and I drove 9 gt, its just better, more stable, more connected to the road, little bit twitchier on throttle but I like it more and itc can be fixed with Mode B.

    I think you should give a weight to each section. I mean, how the engine and leg protection points have the same weight?? This makes your scaling very very wrong. I even don't believe in scaling bikes, giving each spec a point and saying this bike is better than that bike anyway, since even the engine alone may be your reason to choose a bike over another. And reviewers should keep that in mind that "I am not reviewing a tool that has a purpose, I am reviewing a buddy, a friend, a machine has a soul, a character and will be loved by his companion (rider)" motto. I believe every bike deserves that treatment. But giving a rating to its specs and assuming every spec is as important as another is so so wrong, it's an insult.

    Hey there 👋 Thanks for your comment 👍 For you, which is most important, engine, or leg protection?

  • @DeadLead

    @DeadLead

    Жыл бұрын

    @@John_Neves I think given point for each section should be radical but the weight of it is subjective. Weight also must take into account if the problem is fixable or not. For example, if problem is a windscreen problem that can easily be fixed by changing it with a third-party option weigth of it can be less, if its an un-fixable problem, weight of it should be more. So, for a "sport" touring bike, I think engine would have 8-10x weight and leg protection can be 1x, headwind buffeting 2-3x, suspension 7x, brakes 7x, agility 6x, looks 1-2x, engine heat 4x, comfort 8x, stand riding 1x etc.. I believe this will lead to much more comparable chart and can be modified for each type of bike. Let's say you are ranking an adventure bike, for that type, stand riding would have 5x weight.. This needs some thinking on it. I believe this will help people looking for an info about bike they are interested in. Don't get me wrong, comparing Tracer 7 and 9 is kind a funny, since electronics alone (cruise control, TC, riding modes, semi-auto suspension etc..) makes T9 better touring bike over T7.
