A thing of beauty how pieces of metal joined together can produce a machine that transports one from place to place
Fantastic! Muchas gracias!
Using an adjustable spanner is a very good way of damaging the cam chain tensioner nut.
Hello. Could you please tell me what that plug by the gear selector is for? mine is leaking some oil at that plug. thanks
Nice work, dude!
With the engine running, the indicator for cam chain does not move in/out the slightest bit like I've seen it should. although flush with the big locknut and bike runs ok so far but still bit of a rattly sound from engine. Any ideas?
Nice workshop :)!!

@@MrSnoozee I just picked up a 78 sr500 barn find. Year on license plate is 83. So I'm not sure how much TLC it is gonna need, but I cannot wait to get going on it

@@ryankane4261 Yeah sometimes it's nice to just focus on the build.
So you only have the motor not a bike ? I have a 1978 SR500 I've fitted a simpler 36mm Mikuni carburettor I got off eBay from the US it went straight on and runs great with only some adaption to the throttle cable and the tubing to the air cleaner and a different "non vacuum" fuel tap, you can use the original fuel tap if you use a later type of manifold that has a vacuum tube or drill through the front end of the carburettor and install your own vacuum tube As for identifying its year it might be hard to do without its numbers The magnetos have had a lot of changes over time maybe that could help identify it's year If you had the whole bike the 78s and 79s had mag wheels for "tubed" tyres and front and rear disc brakes I'm pretty sure they went to "tubeless" tyres on the 1980 models with mag wheels with a front disc brake and a rear drum brakes

I have a frame and a gas tank wich were included when I bought the engine. The gas tank isnt from a sr500 but the frame should be from the same bike as the engine. Maybe i can get the year from the frame numbers 🤔 I'll probebly do the same as you and fit a aftermarket carburettor. 👍

Both of my SR500's had a number on the engine and the frame on the steering head. Mine were both 1978s and as it seems to me is that the engine is on the noisy side just how they are. I think that a synthetic oil would help quiet the engine down. Maybe something like the Mobil 1 motorcycle oil for a Harley Davidson. The best of luck with your rebuild.
Looks like a 2j4 from 1979.
Bra jobbat! Vart i Sverige bor du?
