So happy to see the nylon version, I've played a classical guitar for many years in all types of settings and all types of music, I'm also a Hugh Willie Nelson fan. I've been checking out this guitar for some time now I think it's time to pick one up. Thanks for the great demo

Honest and fine presentation of the Yamaha "silent" hybrid nylon string guitar! I love mine for sure. Classical and jazz guitarist. It is light, no feedback when amplified, the nylon strings are resonant and warm, plus you can modify the sound along a spectrum from piezo pickup to the tone from the finest Yamaha classical guitars. And you mentioned that it can be "broken down" for traveling, though I could not take it on an international flight for the overhead bin. Nice playing!

Great job on the presentation. I owned one of these for a couple years. It was really convenient for plugging in at night with headphones and using my iPad to play along with Spotify. I used it in church for soft finger pieces and it was always a conversation starter. Great tones too. I just couldn’t get past the wider neck. If it had a more narrow neck I would still have it.

For me, this is the winner because it appears to be the only solid-body electric nylon that actually comes with a FLAT fretboard and saddle. All the other ones on the market come with a RADIUSED fretboard which throws you off if you're used to classical guitar.

I was impressed at how the neck feels on my first edition yamaha silent guitar, though the high E string sounds alot closer to being silent when its plugged in. I may consider performing guitar bridge pickup surgery, see about adding a tiny condenser mic right behind at one quiet string. Right now, that one string requires a powerful plucking and even then its still half the volume of the other strings. This concern may or may not be an issue on later editions of the yamaha silent guitar. Has anyone else noticed this too?

I play mine at church through a Yamaha THR30II with the Line6 wireless option. Yes it's a small building with maybe a 200-person capacity, so I get away with this setup. That said this is such a transportable solution and sounds great whether finger-picked or played with a pick. The effects are a tremendous adder and I just love that I have such control over my sound. And yes it's a great practice solution to keep the peace with the family, but it's also giggable, in case there were any doubts.

I'm writing tunes on my silent guitar. My lyrics are about thought provoking concerns, to try to get listeners to think after they hear about my home having received a threat of being set on fire by a narcissist, even though arson never really causes its victims to float off to a happy land in the sky. I have about 35 guitars now, and they would burn if many smiley willfully ignorant delusional narcissists were able to know who and where i am. What do you think, does the yamaha silent guitar get even more silent if mine ended up burnt to a crisp? What is the sound of willful ignorance, a mute button on a multi effects pedal board? Ah yes, music. Its like books. You can write lyrics about how the 9/11 hijackers sent their victims to a smiley happy place, right?

My guess is that it's just the preamp of the Fishman pickup itself being run through a direct line into the audio interface with no post-production adjustments. That would be the most fair way to demo this, and sounds pretty accurate.

"I don't know why they didn't just kick it up one more 32nd of an inch" -> The reason for using 1 and 31/32 inches is pretty reasonable: nut widths, wood widths, etc. in most countries are now done in millimeters, not inches. 3/4" ply is usually 18mm or 19mm, not 3/4! The nut on the SLG200N is actually 50mm, and it is 52mm on the NW. A two inch nut would have been 50.8mm ... weird! ;P

Can't quite put my finger on it, but it' doesn't sound good to me. Godin set the bar quite high for stage electric nylon, and I'm afraid the Yamaha doesn't even come close. That said, it's also less than half the price of the Godin.

So if anybody here actually uses this guitar (or the slightly wider model 200NW): can you practice with it silently in a city apartment situation with "paper walls" where you hear every toilet flush from everybody level the night through? I mean: is it really quiet enough to not piss off anyone? My classical definitely is not, even when I play it as silently as I can, it is still too much late at night. Any comments appreciated.

This model guitar does have a radiused neck. The other classical silent guitar has a wider flat "classical" neck. When not amplified, the guitar is relatively "silent" enough., One can listen with headphones "silently" and the guitar amplifies nicely with a quality PA. Good for recording and eliminating fret board noise.
