    @@concretejungle6938 You will not get the ARC functionality. So audio cannot travel from your TV to your receiver. You basically need to use the optical cable for sound or some other means

    @@landpet I'm getting sound from my TV to my receiver,I see you can turn the "ARC" off on the receiver also.

  • @landpet

    @landpet

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@concretejungle6938 Hmm, the possible ways of that happening is 1. Your TV has ARC 2. Your device let's say the XBOX is hooked up to your receiver directly, then the receiver is hooked up to your TV. 3. You have some other audio cable like the optical cable hooked up to your receiver from your TV. ARC is when something let's say an XBOX is connected directly to your TV via HDMI for example (not to the receiver directly). Then from the TV, you can transfer the audio to the receiver via ARC (assuming your TV, the HDMI and the receiver all support ARC). If you have the XBOX connected directly to your receiver, then you don't need ARC, cause the sound will just go to your speakers or to your TV (passthrough feature).

    bought the same receiver, happy with it as it replaced an onkyo, it runs way cooler than my onkyo or old sony, even when pushed , recommend you leave the 6 to 8 ohm selector at 8 ohms as turning it to 6 ohms seems to limit current at the top end , even tho im running 6 ohm speakers ,its way more dynamic on the 8 ohm setting from my experience with this unit so far, and it blows my buddys bose {blows} system away for a quarter of the price in sound and power..

    The wireless headphones that I have are Sony and they connect to the red and white audio/video on the back of the receiver. The base that the headphones get recharged in are plugged into a wall ac current. I had them hooked up before that my wife could hear the tv through the tv speakers at her low volume and I could hear through the Sony headphones that run through the receiver, so that is listening to both at the same time.

  • @landpet

    @landpet

    3 жыл бұрын

    I haven't tried that but I don't think you can listen to the TV speakers and the headphones at the same time because they are two different sources. Now if you had speakers connected to the receiver, you can listen to that and bluetooth headphones hooked up to the receiver at the same time and independently control their volumes because that's the same source which is the receiver. The TV needs to know whether to output the audio through its own speakers or through the HDMI cable to the receiver, unless you have a special TV.

    Good stuff. I think the word 'budget' reciever can sometimes be misinterpreted as poor quality. I bought the new 2020 yamaha v4x reciever. It seems to me that when you buy non 'budget' more expensive ones you are mainly paying for many surplus to requirements options and gadgets which you may not require or be interested in for example..dolby atmos with gazillions of speaker options . I.just wanted 5.1 for music and movies and my choice has blown my mind. You get dts , dolby digital pro logic movies/ music or stereo etc . Horses for courses I suppose. Remember folks that budget doesent necessarily mean crap it just means it has less stuff on the back..maybe less power some might say..but how much power does one require in an average living space? It has no problem powering my 8ohm mission floor standing speakers, centre, surrounds and my Bowers and Wilkins sub woofer ..and by the way the v4 has a second sub input for hooking up that second sub to a second input if you so wish. Bottom end is great as are mid and high frequencies. There's graphic equalizer for 5 channels indiv iduallly adjustable. On the back it has 5 HDMI inputs for sound and video signals with one being e arc, 3 analog rca audio inputs, a coaxial and optical in. It doesn't have a Phono input. But I don't need it. The big brother v6 does. V4 also has wi fi, bluetooth music cast usb input on front.just tons of great stuff. Tailor to your requirements. You can't go wrong with Yamaha!

    Yes, excellent point, it has everything you need and it sounds great. Getting the more expensive receivers have other advantages but it may not be necessary to a lot of people. I couldn't agree more, budget doesn't mean cheap. Thanks for your input.

    Great video! I just bought this receiver and wanted to know the best audio/video settings. There seem to be a bunch of options...Straight/Direct, a bunch of different "program" modes (standard, 2 channel, 5 channel, movie mode, drama, etc). I'd like to set it once and forget it. Also, I want my TV to do the processing (Sony X950H) where is that setting? Last, there's a huge differnce in volume when switching between Apple TV 4K and the DVR. Thoughts? Thanks!

  • @landpet

    @landpet

    3 жыл бұрын

    Thanks! It comes with predefined settings, you could just leave it on the default setting. Probably utilizing all your speakers would be ideal granted some sources are only 2.1. These things are designed to be changed for different type of sources like movies, music, games. It’s hard to set it as one option but just leave it at the default which is the easy method. Not sure why there would be a huge difference between Apple TV and DVR. But here’s something you can try: manual.yamaha.com/av/18/rxv385/en-US/316718987.html

  • @landpet

    @landpet

    2 жыл бұрын

    Thanks! Assuming your sound bar also works via HDMI ARC, I don’t believe that will work the way you mentioned assuming I understand your scenario. The 4 ports on the receiver are input ports that are designed to get the incoming signal and play the audio through the speakers meaning let’s say for example you have an Xbox hooked up to one of those ports. So it can play the audio through the speakers or it can pass through the audio to be played on the TV. I believe for the sound bar to work, you would need to to connect the hdmi arc port of the TV to the sound bar. If you don’t need to use the ARC of the receiver, you can just use another hdmi port of your TV to connect to the output port of your receiver. You can also use an optical cable from the TV to the sound bar assuming your TV and sound bar have the optical ports. Hope this helps!

    4:14 time mark: "And one other note to keep in mind, make sure none of these cables are touching any other cable. That is extremely important." For the AV neophyte, this means ensuring that EXPOSED cables (the conducting wires) do not touch each other. For extremely sensitive audiophiles, isolating any cable contact may be desirable. However, for the average consumer, touching insulated wires together will have little effect on the listener experience.

This HDMI is the only one required to show video on the TV. Let's go through an example scenario. Let's say you have a switch, a playstation and an XBOX. You will need 4 (3 input + 1 output) HDMI cables total. So each device connects to the receiver via HDMI, since you have 3 devices, you need 3 HDMI cables. Now you need 1 HDMI cable that goes from the receiver to the TV making it a total of 4 HDMI cables.

    Hello, I got an old pair of Triangle speakers from my dad (was hes old home cinema) but the amp was completely broken and I was looking for a new AVR with bluetooth. My speakers are 80W RMS and 150W peak at 4 Ohms. I see this AVR can output for 6 and 8 Ohms but not 4, do you think it is an issue hence not recommend this AVR for me ? If yes do you have any AVR reference within this price range I could buy for my impedance? Also very great review, keep up the good work

    Ok so I did some researches on how impedance works, as I have 4 speakers that are 4 Ohms each, I could plug two pairs in series into the AVR making each pair 8 Ohms. I don't really plan on using these speakers as a home theater but more as a hi-fi system or just loudspeakers I could use for partying with friends, so I don't care about loosing the surround and just having a basic stereo system.

    Hi there, many thanks for your explanation on using this receiver, some I understood and some I didn't :-), let me start off by telling you I am an old guy that doesn't really understand electronics/sound set-up etc.. I followed the instructions to connect this unit to my LG smart TV, so arc to arc for the HDMI cable and connected the speaker wires (which have been on an old Kenwood receiver - no Arc ) Turned it on and firstly tried the FM station, no sound, then the TV - no sound. I tried the "set up" button and I get to speakers and a request to configure, but no instructions in the user manual on how to configure. I noticed you have instruction on your TV, how do I get this on my TV? Or is an LG different.. BTW - I am using KZread TV - not sure if this makes a difference. Your help would be appreciated..

  • @landpet

    @landpet

    3 жыл бұрын

    No problem. A few things to check: 1. Verify your HDMI cable supports ARC, it needs to otherwise it won't work. 2. In order to see the receiver menu, you must select thr HDMI source of the TV that goes to the receiver. Meaning you connected the receiver to hdmi2 of your tv whish is the HDMI source that also supports ARC. Then you need to be on hdmi2 on your TV. 3. Go to your TV settings and verify ARC is enabled. 4. Select the output audio source on your TV to either ARC or Auto. 5. Just to make sure your receiver is working, connect a device to one of your receiver hdmi's directly and play a video/audio file, anything with audio and verify you are getting audio.

    @@landpet Thanks so much, to make sure, I have ordered an HDMI cable that supports ARC from Amazon, should be here today. Not sure I understand point 2. I am using KZreadTV which I pick up from bottom of my screen alongside HDMI1 and also HDMI 2, Netflix etc etc. Incidentally the ARC connection on my TV is HDMI3. How is HDMI2 or 3 related/connected to KZread TV? On my TV if I enable ARC/optical then no sound from TV speakers?? Is this OK?? I tested this setting - no sound from TV speakers... Am I doing something wrong here? Shouldn't connecting to KZread TV also be a test for the receiver which is why I purchased the receiver? But will connect a DVD. BTW - Receiver operates when pressing buttons etc, pressed "Set Up" but cannot get HDMI Control on, just stays on "Off" With all the settings , even when I get the sound operating, still a lot of set up re speakers, config etc..Quite complicated. Thanks again

    My personal opinion the device is realy great. But be careful with the autostanby option. It elicits some paranoid feelings after the reciever goes turned off without your command. Also make sure nothing is influencing your device from outside as, for example, the moronic neighbour with the IR or BT remote control in his sweaty hands. Sound impressions - even better than with the predecessor- YAMAHA rx-v463 model. Settings usability is great! Especially through the HDMI out port. Manual reference support is more than enough to set it up and find information on every tiny button and hidden LED on the front panel. Just click the link and download the manual corresponded. There is one thing I whant to figure out - the min AC voltage the receiver is able to work at. It has the linear power supply with the big transormer and it shouldn't realy work with the voltage less than 200 Volts. Active PFC is not suplemented for the audio devices as the pulse control causes a lot of sound distortion and noise. And I curious what voltage range is viable for the normal device operation. One more detail has impressed me - the sound quality from the USB source when I began listening to some mp3 (from my collection). Sound I heard was clean and ringy, full of details and subdetails with the deap bass. I had much less MP3 sound quality with my old aforementioned receiver.

    Very nice men but c'mon, you got a receiver with speakers and use a bluetooth headphones? The Switch isn't even on 5.1, only 2.1 are light up on the screen, put a movie with Dolby or DTS to test properly the 5.1

    Thanks! Yeah I understand, I wasn’t doing a sound test just merely demoing the difference. I do use Bluetooth headphones sometimes when my kids are sleeping. In general, I try to go over all the possible options because people are interested in different things.

    As long as the positive and negative wires are hooked up correctly, verify the wire has no breaks in between. At that point, maybe your center speaker isn't working. If that's not the issue, then maybe your receiver isn't working, unless it's configured to not use the center speaker or it's at 2.1 for the source.
