Yamaha R1 carbs leaking fix.

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Yamaha R1 2001, leaking fuel how to fix and replace carburetor o-rings on fuel rail tubes, there are three different size tubes in between the 4 carbs.
I was disgusted at what the local Yamaha dealer wanted for 6 o-ring seals which was almost £50.00 ! so decided to buy a set of 250 oil, diesel and petrol resistant seals for £4.99 and try them, so here's what you need to do if your carbs leak fuel from the fuel rail tubes when the ignition is on and the fuel pump is running, if you touch or press the tubes and they leak fuel out and onto your finger then have a go yourself, I dread to think what the dealer would charge for this.
Try the 6 mm inside diameter 2 mm ring section width, giving a 10 mm outside diameter, when on it will stretch to 10.50 mm which works just fine it'll be stiff to push in and make sure there's a nice smear of grease on the seals to help them slip in while pressing on the body's of the carbs. do one tube at a time, don't let the bolts come right off leave them on the last bit of thread and be careful not to dislodge the other tubes at the other side of the carb keep checking.
That was the one size I used but check yourself as I tried a few different ones and that size defiantly works. It may also be usefull for you to know that as they get older they can leak on startup when cold, a short term or you can do it all the time on startup is dont mess with the choke put it full on and leave it on till warm, this sometimes stops the leaking until everything expands and seals any tubes that are leaking.
Anyway good luck. p.s. good idea to replace the rubber float bowl gasket's on all 4 carbs as they age and compress and the leak will look like it's coming from the tubes. 👍

Hey, thanks for taking the time to make this video. I'm going to give this a go on my buddies carbs. He's brought this to 4 shops, lets see if I can knock this one out of the park.

Thanks mate, strong thread round stop adj springs is a must to stop them disapearing round the workshop and careful not to scrap the tubes on the walls inside the carbs as you angle them in or under the o rings as you get them out. cheers Andy.

I have just got my carbs off as it’s running like a bag of nails. I am quite nervous about checking them over. I was just going to check carbs over for waxing etc as it’s been sat still 8 months. Them round seals were they leaking before? Did you change the gaskets or were they ok? Great clip very helpful.

Hi, Yes they were leaking before, it was the reason I striped them down. The old paper gaskets weren't damaged so I put them back but the seals on the fuel tubes had hardened and squared off, which was the leak, I have also found if they still leak it is likely to be on start-up when the bikes cold so start with choke full on and leave on till warm knock it back slightly if it stutters and wait probably 2-4 minutes don't run it though if it still leaks down the left hand side, that's the left on mine, don't ride it if leaking a few drops of fuel should stop when warmed up, if not you may have to have another go at it I'm afraid. Good luck Andy.👍

Hi, Marksman 225pc item code 62037c : R-05 in kit : inside diameter 6mm : section 2mm : which is 10mm over all, from Ebay. Hi, I find it's the only way you can see they are all exactly the same is to have a minute gap of light showing through each one as if you can't see where they stop when they are completely shut you won't know they are moving off the stop at the same time this works fine for me. Good luck 👍

Hi, If you have striped and cleaned the carbs, there are a few things you could try, firstly with the choke on and it reving it is sometimes difficult to tell if all cylinders are firing so as a matter of course I would pop some new plugs in unless you have already, if you know someone with the same bike a coil pack can sometimes go bad that's trying the electrical side. Possibly if you have a aftermarket exhaust the air screw settings may change the book setting is 3:1/8 out from stop I do have a straight through exhaust and have found I need to put them at 3:3/4--4: turns out you sound like you are needing a higher or more fuel to air mixture when warm as the choke is blocking off the air and incressing the fuel, I think first I would try turning the piolet air screws in to probably 2 turns and go from there could also be worth adjusting the needle position, although if Im honest I would guess there is still a problem inside the carbs as the bike I guess ran nicely in the past. sorry I cant be more helpful. Regards Andy.

@@yamaar1rider I will definitely try that and see if it helps. I does have straight though exhaust as well so it very possible that the mixture is off a little bit. I did think about the coils but I have no extras and I don’t want to just replace parts unless it’s necessary. I really appreciate the response and will let you know what I find thank you 🙏

Keep calm mate have a cup of tea, make sure the screws are backed right off on the rubbers, bit of WD on the rubbers they are at a strange angle but preserve a headlight will help you see if they are twisting and the rubber lips turning in, someone else holding light pressure on them as you line them up, they do have a habit of slipping back off if you release the pressure before tightening the clamp screws. Hope all goes ok. Regards Andy 👍
