Yamaha Montage M Overview - Tony White & Mike Patrick | Bonners Music

Музыка

Full-length video marking the launch of Yamaha's brand new flagship synthesiser workstation - the Montage M. Bonners' keyboard specialist Tony White is joined by Mike Patrick - an amazing performer and composer and also a Yamaha Artist - something reserved for only the world's very best musicians. With plenty of playing to demonstrate the full capabilities of this incredible instrument, this is one for anyone considering the Yamaha Montage M, or looking for a new synth workstation.
ℹ️ About the Yamaha Montage M
With the Montage M, Yamaha has once again established their premium synthesiser dominance. Available with three keyboard options - 61 & 76 FSX synth actions, or the M8x with its 88 hammer action keys with polyphonic aftertouch, the Montage M6 M7 & M8x instruments feature three sound engines including AN-X, AWM2 and FM-X. Add to this a new VCM Rotary speaker effect, Pure Analog circuit 2 technology to enhance the overall presence of the instrument (especially through a PA system), Extended Softsynth Plugin (E.S.P.), and a massively enhanced user interface with new easy-edit pages and shortcuts, the Yamaha Montage M series sets the benchmark for pro-level stage & studio keyboards.

I wasn’t a fan of the original Montage & MODX but with the Montage M, and the workflow of their new CK series, Yamaha has gotten my attention majorly. Montage M8X will be added to my arsenal and may become my main instrument, especially since there will be a full VST3i version of it as well. Well done, Yamaha. One nice addition is that all of the organ sounds now let you use the faders as drawbars for live changes. Unfortunately, they decided to inclde only 8 faders instead of 9, but it still helps a lot to make up for the lack of a dedicated organ engine.

    Great presentation, kudos to both of you!. What I can't understand is how they seem to keep the resistive touch panel, which is really painful to use at any good speed / precission. I own two Montage 6, bought used. On the first one, a 3 years old unit I got back in 2019, I thought there was a problem with the panel. Then I got a months old, virtually unused, Montage 6 White. And it behaved a tiny better, but nothing comparable with a good capacitive touch display. And then, when I bought a NEW MODX+ 6 a year ago, definitely found that, even new, those touch panels are not great. I am not 100% sure, but it seems to me they have kept the same technology on the M series. Could someone verify it is indeed a resistive touch panel?

    Congratulations! This workstation is so sensibly designed super user friendly and easy to use. Best part is it has lots of controller and that can be super useful for live and production work. Some people prefer to use touch screen and some prefer buttons it has both. Montage is already established and this one is perfect upgradable keyboard with minimal price increases and bunch of new sounds and unmatched control facilities. Love the ANX synth it sounds so fantastic. Overall it’s much better product then existing Montage and currently no other workstation can match to new Montage M series. Only thing I felt little bad that no polyphonic after touch on the 6/7 so surprised because now days musicians prefer portable products so obviously more selling keyboards are 6 & 7. I have a one question see if you know and you can answer me. My question is can II used Montage’s user sounds on this? Because this keyboard is way ahead than Montage so there must be so many changes in parameters and there are so many Montage users in the market and they can asked this questions. Nice demo…Love the keyboard. All the best to Yamaha and all the dealers for better business. Thank you 🙏 ❤

    On the Yamaha Genos 2, the Super Articulation (e.g. Guitars and woodwind, brass instruments) comes on AUTOMATICALLY when play soft/hard, play a note 3 seconds after playing a previous one, puts in legato automatically when you go from a lower to higher octave etc. All these can be accomplished on the Montage M but manually (with buttons, pedals. knobs etc). Since I want to FOCUS on playing on stage and not pushing buttons, HOW (in the MONTAGE M) do I get the articulation to be triggered like the GENOS 2 - Automatically or using velocity, aftertouch, time, notes etc and so play and not have to press any Art1/2 buttons or ribbons or ...etc.

  • @instrujam

    @instrujam

    9 ай бұрын

    Good question. Yamaha doesn't seem to say. Nevertheless, it sounds like 3 sensors, or at least going by this statement: "The GEX action provides enhanced key repetition behaviour that is typically found on grand pianos". This makes it sound like the GEX might stand for Grand Expression (the GE bit) with Escapement (the X bit). More generally, all digital piano actions which simulate the grand piano double escapement mechanism tend to also have three sensors, including Yamaha's GH3, NWX, GTS, and GT.

    @@ablesam I have Montage 88, the original. Before I bought it I was debating whether I should get the Montage or Genos. I went with the Montage. I think I made a mistake because I it’s so complicated to use , not to mention that I can barely play piano. At least with Genos, you get a lot of accompaniment that sounds good and you’ll play along with it. I can do that with Montage, but it’s more complicated and most likely not as good in terms of having it all done automatically by the synth. You have to tweak it more.

  • @ablesam

    @ablesam

    9 ай бұрын

    @@Marian1st. If you're primary focus is the accompaniment, go with the Genos, it will give you what you need in that regard. Genos also has great sounds, but the MONTAGE is a dedicated synthesizer, so variety and quality will be abundant there. I'd suggest you also to wait and see for the next iteration of Genos, Marian. Yamaha may have a few exciting new additions to the board. Regarding your original post, the Montage also has articulations. That doesn't make it better than the Genos. What makes it better is the way of implementation Yamaha has on the Genos. MONTAGE M has just improved upon this by adding more element layers to the AWM2 engine (8 on the Montage, MODX and Genos vs 128 on the MONTAGE M) and adding polyphonic after-touch allowing single notes within acoustic instruments to have variations of playing styles (this was not possible before with channel/mono-phonic after-touch). The differences between the Genos and Montage M is way more than I can type into the post. But I'll summarize by saying the MONTAGE M is more capable than the original MONTAGE or the Genos. Everything that MONTAGE ever was has been upgraded in sound reproduction/quality, ease of use, workflow, playability, expressivity and synthesis capabilities. I'd highly recommend that you go to a store and try the new MONTAGE M for yourself in your free time. If it appeals to you, go for it, ask questions to people who can answer them directly aimed at your needs (since I don't know what they are and am a stranger on the internet) and see if what they are talking about are on the MONTAGE M and if you can easily access and use it. Good Day.

    The 4x4 buttons to select presets/categories, should have been Pads… it would have been so much more useful. Also, it’s a shame 61 and 76 keys don’t have polyphonic AfterTouch. And overall, it’s a shame there’s still not large SSD with direct from disk feature. At this kind of price point, you’re definitely need something to compete to someone using a nice controller such NI S-Series or Akai MPC-Keys with a MacMini or MiniPC and a load of plugins that overall will sound better than any of those embedded sounds from Yamaha. Just NI Komplete alone will provide way more than you can get here, both quantity wise and quality wise. I’m not against hardware, I just don’t understand why it’s still so limited to these days where mini computers and tablettes can have so much more Power, RAM and Storage, allowing to have more samples, more sound engines and more polyphony. Yamaha did a good step in the right direction, with the controls, v-pots, drawbars, second screen, touchscreen, etc… but they’re still missing pads and more powerful system to allow DfD features such Kontakt to be able to have huge high-quality sound banks, not just for pianos, but for every sound.

    @@Javkillers Komplete potentially can, not sure how complete it is on bread and butter sounds with Kontakt. Kontakt is killer, but some of the Factory Library sounds are mediocre, so extra Kontakt Sample Libraries from Native Instruments or other companies that make libraries for Kontakt might be necessary (which means spending extra money after buying Komplete).

    There's a technical reason, but basically, the read/write speeds of the chips used on these keyboards (Yamaha, Roland, Nord and Kurzweil) are basically instant, compared to an SSD. This keeps the overhead very low and gives you instant access to sounds.

    @@theclaverman "What a full midi control is" what yamaha failed to add one more time" .. . They had to ignore one main function among many requested for a full sequencer. The principle.. Where could people edit midi notes & controls all together ? if this exists as an external daw, i wouldn't bother buying it. it could be much more than a soundbank for you but there's zero control over midi sessions. without full midi control, it's forcing us to go play with a computer before returning to the audio environment, or switching during event editing mods & loosing the osmosis.. even copy functions don't have the X times option & there' s no copy/insert either. it's a sayonara yamaha for me, i'll expect a better work by korg after the pa5x. & event editing existed in yamaha, i'm not going to follow their downgrades, cause i've warned the japanese staff 2 years ago & they did nothing about it. So it's goodbye for me. they don't seem to give a tos & u'll see that it will have an impact on marketing, because synthesizers arrived in the world since ages with a record button & this received numerous improvements & was named a sequencer. kzread.info/dash/bejne/X66bwZiwg8-4adY.html Zero interest.

    There's a campaign to shame Yamaha for lack of PAT on 6/7 could be for the next 7 years & pushing only the M8 in most demos. I ordered the M6 because I have (2) MPE+ Osmose units & the ASM Hydrasynth with PAT but even so Yamaha is pushing this GEX when without it the cost would have been the same $500 upcharge for each unit. Most player can't carry or afford the M8 yet Yamaha flaunts the M8 like shaming customers for not buying that model. Not saying the paid demo people are but they also can't be objective when getting paid. The shame is all on Yamaha for cheapening products and cheating customers &/or forcing them to go big for a better feature. I've purchased and owned almost every Yamaha synth/arranger in the last 30 years so I'm not from the other side taking cheap shots, I am the Yamaha customer base paying their bills. I've repaired hundreds of Yamaha synths and personally soldered thousands of their tact switches like on the SY series alone. I can speak that this was a really sad and pathetic option to cheat customers when Yamaha is the Godzilla of innovation and sound. Very embarrassing Yamaha and to be very clear a "Pianist" doesn't need PAT nearly as much as a "Synthist" or "keyboardist" does per your own advertising terminology.
