Hi Woody! I love how you can just fire the keyboard up and play whatever style comes first. You have a knack for improvising and no doubt, you’re an accomplished musician. Well done! I also like the styles you’ve demonstrated - the instrumentation is tasteful and the voices have a lot of atmosphere and movement to them. “Intricate” is the word to describe it! That being said, Jan’s dance pack that you demonstrated a couple of years ago on your then-PSR-S970 sounded simply spectacular. I still haven’t heard anything better to this day. Cheers mate!

Brilliant demo Woody , Most of the EDM on the Genos 2 sound a little dry and static , you should try revoicing the styles and add reverb and mess around with the effects and pump up the bass , You could also load your EDM expansion pack from Styles2PSR and make the Genos really thump a drum and bass with your own melodies .... with tweaking or reselection of voices and a little musical creativity - i think theres plenty enough - sound engine wise - in even the GENOS 1 or PSR SX - to make it less cliche or "same same"

I remember jumpstyle music. It was quite popular in the netherlands ca. 2005-2006. It was kind of an kids kraze at the time. The Genos 2 totally nails the characteristic style with the side-chained saw sound. It was kind of an obnoxious genre (by my classification that is😁). At least the genre promoted an active lifestyle because it involved literal jumping up and down in rapid succession as a dance move.

Nothing like an arranger in the hands of a good performer to get people up and dancing. It must be the perfect timing of the styles and the humanity of the soloist. Have you been to or performed at "The Cowgirl Gallery" in Southern Sweden?

Hi Woody. You are very good at improvising. I had genos 1 for a while and started to explore vocal harmony. Especially vocoder as i cant sing :). I found ”vocoder mono” in vocoder harmony tab page 2, that i put some eco and reverb on, disabled right 1 2 and 3 and it sounded really good and gave a new dimension playing. I have tried it with some dance styles but im sure it can be used in other style categories also. Can you try it and maybe make a video about it to give inspiration. I havent found any videos about it on youtube so far.

no, they are utilising sounds and effects not available in the PSR. but you might find some close-ish styles on the 900.

good question, don't know, probably replaced by the chord looper presets which does similar.

You really ought to work a cruise....isn't there a River Cruise or Weekend Sea Cruise near you where you could trade entertainment services for a big room for you and the family. And that other comment about Kidz Bop production, you just need to start auditioning people....

Imagine a firmware updste for GENOS2 - OR/AND MONTAGE M - that effectively made these beasts into Komplete Kontrol or Nektar (w Nektarine plugin) replacements! especially given .... MIDI 2.0 !

You can play Despacito at the second style too.

There must be a number of phrase pads on the Genos2? Phrase pads add to the style and give you many more combinations than just the four variations. I have 6 phrase pads on my Roland arranger they add so much to the style. Also the three intro's lead into any variation you select after the intro, so you can use the intro's for a break in the middle of a song.

indeed there are 4 multipads, which can be loops. hits or phrases. but the styles are busy enough without adding more, i feel.

The SynthElectro style has distinct Swedish House Mafia vibes.

Dream Dance was pretty good, but still doesn't punch the way it should. Yamaha really needs to make a pack for us Uplifting Trance guys. Something that sounds like "Robert Miles - Children (Trance Arts & Colin James mix)"

I agree - thats the problem with all arrangers - they call it edm,trance,techno - but all sounds mors dance schlager or ballermann style -

@@h.d.b.8414 There was a guy who made phenomenal Trance styles on YT for the Tyros 5. I only have a Tyros 4 and he said the styles would not be compatible with my board, sadly. I can't find him anymore. Maybe he stopped doing it. His stuff was phenomenal. Those styles literally sounded like something from Robert Nickson, or Nitrous Oxide. Yamaha, as usual, is only thinking about the "party" dance styles. The Motif had some really good Trance as well. I guess they think the arranger market only cares about "party" sounding stuff. To this date, I have seen zero reason to upgrade to Genos from my T4.

Still got this cheezy plasticky feeling when hearing those backing tracks. And I don’t know why, as the music’s EDM oriented which would allow for bland repetitiveness in its own right. Still, I’m hanging on as I love Woody’s vids, hoping I’ll see the light someday. Meanwhile, I just can’t get myself to ordering a Genos because of that cheeziness.

it's not for everybody and there are other (cheaper) ways to make amazing EDM music luckily!

thanks for showing the genos 2,honestly im not impressed wi G2 ,I tried it in person at the store but coming from Genos 1 to upgrade to Genos 2 Im not seeing any good reason to spend over 4 thousand tfor he upgrade, Upgrades are very incremental to be honest But everyone to his own

If Yamaa got their act together, purchased the company DREAMTONICS ( Synthesizer V ) and released a firmware update that was more composer/producer/DAW friendly - this beast could make for a great first-cut EDM song producing machine. People over-rate the actual creativity going on in EDM - there tons of cookie cutter copycat stuff going on in that genre as in everything else- and the GENOS can perfectly well be a potential song-starter ( or even firestarter if you will.... ( ill get my coast ) ) - even given it might only provide a condensed collection of styles.

Consider yourself lucky you don't know what Reggaeton is, people around where I live blast it at full deafening volumes to "dance". Basically it's latin Rap/Hip-Hop

4.5k for edm styles which frankly embarrass the Genre. These are nothing like True EDM. Iv never understood why they dont ask Manuel Schleiss to partner with Vengeance and have Proper EDM styles. 🥴🥴💥💥 instead of using this absolute rubbish.

yeah, would love to see yamaha do collabs like that! but let's face it, EDM producers are using ableton, serum, massive etc, never arranger keyboards. this is intended just for casual players wanting to perform with approximations of EDM styles I guess.

@@WoodyPianoShack fair point but nowadays the Genos should be able to,if a user wants to, choose a style and actually have it sound like EDM etc. At least then the price can be justified. Perhaps a Nexus or VPS avenger synth would be welcome 🤗.
