Martin Harris, great demonstrator, I’ve seen his demos of some Yamaha’s keyboards such as Tyros 3, 4 and 5, and in this occasion, this Genos. Others great demonstrators are Michael Vonchen, who has done some demonstrations of many Yamaha keyboards since Tyros 1, PSR-2100, Tyros 2, Tyros 3 and some keyboard from PSR series, and Peter Bartmaans, who has performed some demonstrations for Tyros 4, Tyros 5 and some keyboard from PSR series since PSR-S910. I must admit that this Genos is better than Tyros 5 (which I acquired a month ago, one from second hand), but his high cost don’t justify it (this is perhaps the main reason why I could buy my Tyros 5, because its cost went down, I’m happy for my acquisition and its voices are spectacular). These revo! Drum kits have no comparison in this Genos, so all styles have a quality without limits, much better than audio styles in Tyros 5 and PSR-S950, PSR-S970 and the most recent PSR-S975. The thing that I disagree me is that joystick, I prefer the traditional pitch bend and modulation wheels. I hope save money in a few years to buy an eventual Genos 2 and work together with my Tyros 5 and my old PSR-2100 that is still alive.

I usually play with my new Yamaha MODX8 with my Roland VR-09 Combo organ (Keyboard) for drawbars, but when I rehearse with the bands, the Roland VR-09 just does not have enough keys for piano playing like the Yamaha Genos.

Great video Martin, the sound is amaazing, and you make it the best! I have a question about the arranger loop function on the Genos 2, maybe you can help me? 20 years ago I used this function constantly on my Roland E-86 (made in 1994), to play or create the underlying chord progressions (often spontaneously), and then use two hands to play solos (LH on the modulation wheel or pitch bend, RH play saxophone or whatever); or, in a live setting, while leading worship I could establish a chord progression, and then physically depart from behind the keyboard, walk out to the front of the stage, and sing and lead the people in worship WHILE the E-86 kept playing the progression - and then after a while, go back behind the keyboard and seamlessly pick up in midstream (to play reharms or go into the chorus or B-section, etc). It was wonderful! Fast-forward 25 years, and now I use a Tyros 5, and it's a great keyboard, BUT sadly it doesn't allow for either of these powerful and useful functions. My Left Hand is forever trapped having to play the chord progressions, with only spits and spurts darting over the left to adjust the mod or pitchbend wheels, and always having to zip back to play the new chord on the down-beat (which is often the very moment when mod or pitchbending is most needed in an effective solo). And another thing: with the Tyros, my body is physically trapped behind the keyboard. I can't depart from behind the Tyros to get more physically present to lead or exhort the people. Alas, how I miss the arranger loop function! (I'm much less effective as a live performer without it.) So I'm very excited to see that the Genos 2 has the arranger loop!! Way to go Yamaha! So now.... I wonder: since this appears to be primarily a software update (and not a hardware feature that requires a separate set of buttons, like on the E86) ... could this feature possibly be programmed into an updated firmware or software version for the Tyros 5? Does anyone have any idea? I don't really want to leave my Tyros 5 yet, it's still an awesome keyboard; plus, the learning curve to learn the Genos is as much a deterrent as is the price to upgrade from the Tyros. So hopefully Yamaha will see fit to program this arranger loop function into the Tyros software or firmware, and not force us who REALLY need this feature, to buy a Genos2. Any idea about this Martin? I would love to hear from anyone about this.

Very nice keyboard in deed at a hefty price tag. Really nothing to complain about the sound beside maybe a little upgrade to the Organ World would have been nice, but for most users that is propably peanuts. But soundwise its still 94% the same as a Tyros 5. There always seem to be a "but, but..." with Yamaha ... Why oh why.. at this price tag .. why no horisontal touch keybed Yamaha ?? The STAGEA ELC-02 has been out for about 2 years now. Had really hoped they would have taken this feature from the nice but ugly Electone series

Yamaha have always been keen on hefty use of onboard effects. For the most of the last 2 and a half decades most of their preset arrangements in their arranger keyboards always been "big" with loads of reverb and effects. Luckily it has also always been possible to adjust it :) But make no mistake .. the samplings of the big CFX Concert Grand really does sound nice. also without any reverb :) and even the Genos has a hefy price .. would love a CFX at home .. but the Genos is about 50 times more affordable (plus you don't have to buy a bigger house to get room for a CFX in the living Room ) .. :)

The Tyros 5 is still a prety damn good keyboard and I also prefer it's look over Genos and I very nearly bought a Tyros 5 last year but for now I have put it on hold. If I reconsider buying an arranger/workstation in a few years I'm thiking of possibly getting a Genos or if I can't afford to part with £3,000 I would settle for the Yamaha PSR-SX700 or SX900 as those are a mini Genos. Five thousand dollars, and it doesn't even do 6-Op FM. In fact they sell you a multi-sampled "DX" pack that's supposed to sound like a real DX (It doesn't). Why not just add the chip that costs about an extra $3 to manufacture? Yamaha has discovered that 6-Op FM is the "Carrot", even though they used to make beautifully sounding 8-Operator synths and organs, and then took them off the market, and replaced them with shitty 4-Op FM. It's 2018 for christ sake... When is Yamaha going to make a truly innovative Synth?

Yes but the sound quality is more important than how it looks. I prefer the look of Tyros 5 and last year I very nearly bought one ( but I didn't ). However if I reconsider buyng an arranger keyboard in 2027 I might push the boat out and buy a Genos ( maybe by then there will be a Genos 2 which would drive the cost of Genos and Tyros 5 lower ). The Yamaha PSR-SX700 and SX900 are another possibility and a lot cheaper than a Tyros 5 or Genos.

Those guitars sound as... a keyboardist playing a keyboard with a guitar sample... sorry... only a guitar player that happens to play keyboards also, can sequence real sounding guitars...

The looks of the Genos is terrible CURVY. It makes the Genos looking cheap. Whoever is designed have missed and don't think about the users! Most of the users are an older users. They should be sticking with the Tyros 5 body

Actually Halion has some decent sounding guitars that can pass as convincing to the average listener if you know how to sequence properly, even some of the electric guitars on my Roland JV-1080, SC-88 Pro and 8850 also still pass as realistic. Going back to the Genos, I disagree that it has poor quality guitars, the distortion guitars on both Genos and Tyros 5 are pretty damn good sounds. Although I have real guitars my playing skills are certainly upto session musician standards. In comparison the guitars on Genos are still way better compared to an early 90s Casio ToneBank keyboard or early 90s Yamaha PSR but back in the day I didn't have much choice but to make the best with what I had at the time, I didn't even own an acoustic guitar 30 years ago.
