Do i need Power Speaker for moniter

If you connect it to do both mains and monitors, are both pairs in stereo? Or is it a weird mono setup? Or, are like the mains the left channel and the monitors the right? I'm trying to find one of these that will run the 2 pairs at all times.

Great question. This unit has a stereo power amp. You can configure the amp to use the power for stereo mains or a mono main sum (L+R) and mono monitor. Either way, you can connect two speakers for each side of the amp, depending on the impedance of your passive speakers. You would run the speaker cable to one main speaker and then to the second speaker. Repeat this with your monitors. It will be difficult to find a powered head that has 4 amps (stereo L & R and 2 channels for the monitors). Running this system with Mono main and mono monitors works fine and wouldn't be weird at all. I would recommend this set up. You still get 2 speakers for mains and 2 for monitors. If you really need stereo mains, I would recommend buying a separate power amp for the monitors or powered monitors. The EMX 512 owners manual has more on different options for setup. Pay close attention to the jacks and cabling you use. The jacks on the front are unpowered and would be the ones you use to connect to an external power amp. The connection on the back of the unit and should be connected to (Passive) unpowered speakers. I hope this helps.

I would really like to hear your opinions on whether it’s better to use passive speakers from the back or active from the front . I can’t decide which would be best . Thanks

Rob, thanks for the question! It would really depend on the speaker choice, amplification, and budget. This unit has its own power so there is a cost savings in using the power supplied within the EMX 512. If you have passive speakers, by all means, use the power within the unit. If you are buying new equipment, you may consider having active mains and then use the Emx 512 power for passive monitor speakers. I have used this configuration in the past with excellent results. Use what gear you have first, buy extra gear if necessary. I hope that helps.

@@jeffwhite624 thanks . A big help. I’m looking at new speakers so looking at prices at the moment. Thanks again . Prices are a bit high in Australia at the moment on audio gear so I need to stick to budget. 👍

You daisy chain your mains. So you connect one main to the other main, then connect to the pa amplifier. Same for the monitors.

Hi. About your sub idea. There is no crossover to split signal, correct? So mains and sub are receiving high, mids, and lows?
@CPWC2007
6 жыл бұрын
You are correct... To overcome this is, use the 7 band graphic eq on the yamaha to send only the low frequencies to the sub and then send the mids and highs to the main speakers. You are essentially doing your own crossover. Check your speakers to see what frequency to cross it over at. I use 100 hz, I think it is 95 hz on the graphic eq. If you are only using one side of your amp to do this application, your powered speakers may allow you to set set the crossover point of your speakers. My yamahas allow me to do that. In that case, send the full range signal from your yamaha mixer to the sub and to the mains. I hope this helps.
