    Those DZR series speakers are BIG 15" loud speakers. Back in the day my old JBL JRX115 Speakers weighed 61.5 lbs each and I did not want to ever have speakers that weigh that much ever again! LOL. I had the Alto TS215 Speakers, and they only weighed 33.5 lbs. I won't use 15s any more. I prefer the portability, and look of 12s for my mains. I also don't do 18" Subs. I do 12" Subs. Just too big to put the effort into bringing in and out of venues in my service area. Probably 40% of the wedding venues I do have stairs involved.

    Hey Brian. I just took delivery of the DZR-15 pair. For some reason I thought I ordered the 315 but ended up with the 2-15. I’m wondering if it’s worth the effort to put everything back in the box and re order. Like you I have two dxs-18xlf subs. I wanted the dxr tops to replace my mackie sw1530 pair which is hella heavy. I haven’t had a gig yet to try the Yamahas but now I am regretting not being thorough when I ordered these. Thoughts?

    Bummer! I'd be a little disappointed as well. I'd say it depends upon how you intend to use it. I view the DZR315 as more of a long throw speaker with horn loaded drivers and a narrower coverage pattern 75 degrees vs 90 degrees in the DZR15. I haven't heard the DZR15 but I think the DZR315 will have better clarity at a distance. The DZR15 isn't horn loaded and has a wider coverage pattern so it would be better in short to mid-throw applications.

    I have a four piece rock band. We’re building a brand new PA. Venue sizes range from small to large and we also will play indoor and outdoor gigs. We have purchased for Yamaha DXS18XLF subs and are now looking to purchase tops. I’m a fan of Yamaha and have used them for a while. Just not finding a lot of info on the three-way tops. You’ve had yours for a year or more. What are your thoughts on them? I’m thinking about purchasing a pair to complement our four subs.

    It sounds amazing and throws really well because of the horn loaded design. The only downside I would see is the inability to reconfigure it for smaller shows. You will always have to use the full system. I've probably used two subs with two dxr15 mkii's more than I've used the full stacks. But I'm also just one guy setting up so I tend to go for what's needed more than what would be over the top. I have to run sound at a fair this summer. I'll be using my full stacks but after that I will probably downsize. Not because I don't like them but because I've downsized a lot during covid. I plan on talking about it a bit in my next video.

  • @TheAngrySoundTech

    @TheAngrySoundTech

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yes it is a little heavy but I can lift it by myself. The thing to think about this speaker is it's really the long throw speaker in the DZR line. That's why the coverage angle is narrower at 75 degrees. It's designed to throw farther. If you're looking for a wider short throw speaker the other cabinets in this line have a 90 degree horizontal coverage pattern.

    Seeing that you're experienced with the yamaha speakers. This came up on my feed. My objective is to try a avoid carrying subwoofers so I am looking for decent tops. I'm torn between the DXR12s, DSR12s and the DZR12s, this is for mobile DJ use and so bass needs to be tight and punchy. I've read that these are for more highend of the spectrum for outdoor to large events. So only looking at the DXR12s, DSR12s or the DZR12s, can you recommend which will be better. P. S, I will be investing in a dxs18xlf

I use my X32 for all my larger live sound gigs and the Touchmix for smaller live sound gigs as well as all my DJ events. I just recently started running my controller through a separate mixer. I like the added control for my microphones. My plan was to buy an Allen & Heath SQ5 once I sold my M32 but I haven't pulled the trigger on it yet since I've been spending so much money on speakers lately.

    Hi, thanks for the videos. I'm considering the same setup: 2xdzr315 and up to 4xdxs18xlf. How does the 2xsub+top stack work in real life? How stable is it? I guess you need to tie it together with several industrial grade straps? Also, for a dj gig with people dancing close by, have you considered 7° wedges under the tops in the stack? And, if you go cardioid mode: don't some dancers bump into the sub wheels all the time on a packed dance floor, or use the wheels as coat hangers, etc? And lastly, from a sound harmony standpoint: the dzr315 gets quite low by itself. Does Adding two subs per speaker really make sense in real. Life? And comparing it with dzr12 with subs: does the 8inch mid and the upper low 15 play together nicely? Does it really add something in real life smaller events over the dzr12?

    Definitely get the subs. XLF = extra low frequency. And they mean it. Going below 50hz there isn’t a better way. I agree with Brian that 4 xlf cabs would be PLENTY. As for the build and posts, these are mobile grade yes but as Brian says in the video not quite tour grade. The soft trim parts can burn easily from a cigarette ash and collect muck easily. But the sound quality is as good or better than RCF , much better than EV, or JBL. And these cabs are easily carried and lighter than they look. Imo Yamaha is doing the best job of balancing all the mobile needs. For tour level gear they offer nexo which is easily triple the price of these.

    While it is interesting they would change the watt ratings of a speaker currently in production. It really doesn't mean much when it comes to powered speakers. Does it really matter how many watts a driver consumes? Or should we care about how the driver turns those watts into sound. I always rely on the SPL rating of a speaker (Sound Pressure Level). The DZR315 is still rated at 143 db and frankly I don't care if it consumes 10 watts or 1000 watts. I care about what the speaker can produce with those watts. In this case it's 143 db measured pink noise at 1 meter. Some manufacturers don't even measure it. They calculate it instead. Check out my video about whether watts really matter. I babble on about it for about 20 min. lol Think of it like this. Would you rather have your car get 40 mpg while driving 60 mph down the road or would you rather have it get 20 mpg while driving 60 mph down the road. Wanting a speaker to consume more watts is like wanting your car to consume more gas to do the same thing.

    It sounds good alone but if you really plan on pushing the bass you'll need a sub. The frequency response goes really low with the DZR315 but it runs out of gas fast if you try to make it thump too hard. Also there is no pole socket on the bottom so you'd have to come up with some platform to put it on.

    Why did you go from a full das event line array to full yamaha dzr series. And why dzr series Why not jbl srx, ev etx Also what is that driver behind you? Im guessing its neodynium Ps: i saw your vid about why you switched but can you tell me why switch fully from a full line array with dual 18 subs to normal speakers. Which your technically downgrading

  • @TheAngrySoundTech

    @TheAngrySoundTech

    4 жыл бұрын

    I bought the DAS line array because we were beginning to book shows that were well over 1,000+ people in attendance and we needed a larger system. But as we began booking them, larger production companies started to dip down into our smaller shows. They began to severely under cut us just to get the gigs. Heck even Ben Stowe from NLFX has begun booking shows in the Fargo area and since he gets crazy good dealer cost on gear he can pretty much under cut anyone. Once I began to look at the numbers I realized I'd make more money on non-rider shows. So my focus now is shows under 1,000 so I don't need to try to compete with the big production companies. Also standard point source speakers and single 18" subwoofers work better for my rental business. No one around here seems to ever want to rent dual 18" cabinets. The switch to Yamaha over JBL or EV was simply because I bought one Yamaha sub to test out and thought it was the best I had heard to date. That's what got the ball rolling with Yamaha. They've really stepped up their game with their new speaker lines. Are you talking about the driver that is laying on top of a speaker in the background? That is out of a JBL PRX cabinet. Someone dropped it off for me to recone or replace but never told me which route they wanted to go so now the speaker just sits there. I've had the cabinet for a couple months now with no sign of the person that dropped it off.
