Yamaha CS80 - Chaos
Музыка
I was very lucky recently to play around with this at a studio for a few hours (thankyou studio people) I took home what I recorded and layered in some strings, Rhodes piano and even more brass sounds from my ESQ1. Video is confusing at times, but it was like working backwards..no timeclock etc..hence the title! Also allowed me to fill in parts where I was tweaking or adjusting the sound of the CS80. It was an honour to be able to play it, it truly is a beautiful and expressive instrument.

CS-80 + Rhodes + Massive Lex reverb = Heaven The milestone Vangelis carved upon which Synthetic Heaven was created
I sincerely wish people like you*, who love and deserve this instrument, woke up one day and found it standing beside them. *and hopefully me
Fantastic composition. Vangelis would smile.
Chaotic improvisation indeed, but the 70s Vangelis vibe is really evident. Congrats.
This is your “Spiral” with the borrowed CS80. Magnificent!
so wonderful. I imagine this "working backwards" is how Vangelis often put together his tracks at Nemo.
This instrument is amazing. And you make it sing. As someone else posted, it's incredible to think that an electronic instrument so old has still not been matched by anything since. I've never heard anything else with such an otherworldly sound. It's a shame these things will eventually wear out cease to exist. I hope someone like u-he can fully capture its essence one day.

thankyou! and you know this particular Cs80 was so pristine it looked like it just came out of the box- I was so pleasantly surprised and shocked by it's condition-spotless - it was owned by a well known artist I can't name, but to put your worries at rest, the cs80 will be around for a long time yet;-)

u-he ain't gonna capture this. They don't even make the best digital synths out there. I'm going to have to go to Switzerland to rent some time on one of these. They are SO retro 70s and 80s, but still nothing else like them. It's a weird contrast, retro and yet the top of the heap.
0:01 I wouldn’t be able to resist either tbh 😅 Since a fantastic theme for a masterpiece of a film
Amen! Welcome to the Nirvana of synths 🙏
My brother, you make my heart so glad with what you play and the sounds you make. So good to get another video from you, it's been way too long. Wow, all those vintage instruments! You must have gone nuts. And that CS80. I remember Kate Bush was very fond of it, used its whistle sound on a number of tracks. Now that I've reached my dotage , I find myself feeling alone with my ancient fandoms, things seemingly no one would even remember, if they ever knew about them. Finding a guy who resurrects the Vangelis magic of my youth is therefore an unexpected treasure. I don't know if you've ever spoken to him, but I really feel if he heard your stuff he'd be happy in knowing someone will carry the torch after he's gone. Cheers.
No chaos, a perfect concert for advanced listeners.

What a lovely comment, thankyou sir!
The phrase "you can't play a CS80 without sounding like Vangelis" seems to follow this synthesizer wherever it appears. I would ask why would you not want to sound like the legend that is Vangelis if the opportunity arose to play the legend that is the mighty CS80? A really tremendous tribute to both - thanks.

I'm gonna be cocky and say I can play it and not sound like Vangelis, but have yet to get my hands on one to prove it.
Lovely exploration of the CS80.
That is really nice Mike, I'm seeing hover-cars everywhere ;)
Exelente, felicitaciones, me encanta tu estilo musical y ese aire vangelis!!!
Really glad you could not resist!

Finally I managed to watch your channel with peace of mind!!! What a composition!!! An improvisation masterpiece... worthy of the greatest composers of the 80s!!! The track takes me to another dimension and it's a real pleasure to see you play!! These are my favorite tracks, the ones that come from the soul of the player. The CS80 is truly MAGNIFICENT, how lucky to have been able to play it!!! I am really happy to have met you my friend and I wish you all the best!!! Continue to create these AMAZING tracks :) :) :)
If Vangelis won't or can't do the soundtrack to Blade Runner 2, I hope they contact you.

I love it. That CS80 sounds just so good. Nothing sounds like it and you play it SO well. Thanks for showing everyone how it's done. I think I like this more than Soil Festivities. It's got a Bladerunner vibe but very fresh.

Incredible. I have an ebay watch setup for CS80s. Last one was on sale for £25,000 so I decided to pass on that one! Hope you get to play it again... few people could do it the justice it deserves.

i see a jdxa in the backround, how useful is that instrument? It has a lot of hands on control which appeals to me greatly but im curious if the system 8 is better?
