Im a big boy and love my bolt. Done some mods like a saddlemen seat, forward controls and mini apes. Done some 400-500 mile trips no problems.

Dude I can't find those forward controls. The ones I'm looking at are always out of stock. Already got the air intake, those forward controls are next.

About worrying for your son when he does get a bike. It is really nice to see that you are worried and thinking about your son's safety on a motorcycle. Just make sure that your son takes a motorcycle course, wears full safety gear all the time when ever he rides, and practices a lot. This will help you worry less, and will prevent any serious issues in the future.

Granted....I've only owned my Bolt for 3 months. It's a '23 I bought mid October....Brand new. I did my research. I come from a crotch rockets background where it was all about the speed. I live in Southwest Florida and I 75 is Florida's answer to the autobahn. I got a really good job with the county and I would be on 75 and look down and I was doing 130mph and the bike felt great. BUT....at some point I decided my job was more important. Sold that and found the Bolt. It has literally changed the way I see and think about riding. To this point I have yet to experience any death wobble. And this is Hands down the most comfortable bike I've ever ridden. I've had a couple 150- 200 mile a day rides and when I step off my body doesn't hurt (I'm 62 yrs young). Do I miss 6th gear....hell yes. But when I'm doing 80 and need to roll on it to make a pass there is absolutely no lag. The power I need is there. I do wish I could find some non vibrating mirrors but that's all part of the experience. It's naked and simple and I dig it. I would like to look into a Honda Fury but if anything happens to my Bolt I'll be heading to my nearest Yammie dealership for another Bolt.....and btw....Screw Harley and their overpriced junk.

If you miss the 6th gear you might do what a lot of Bolt riders do and buy the pulley (I think its the front one) off of the Yamaha Stryker 1300. It's an easy job to change the pulley out and then you can go as fast as you want at a lower rpm. Everyone says it's the best mod you can do to that bike. Also, don't buy the Fury because it also needs a 6th gear even more than the bolt and you cannot change a sprocket or pulley to get the gearing you need because it's shaft drive.

Nice to see a biker so passionate and down to earth. The father in you. The biker that wants to experience the air, the temperature changes, smells and all. The human aspect of it all. Great video. Keep riding - stay safe.

1st gen ninja 250 or 500 are really good. He will have a blast on either. Gen 2 and 3 ninja 250 is a bit slower but looks more your modern day sports bikes but the maintenance is a touch more difficult.

bit of a late comment, love the video and i've been thinking of getting a bolt myself. Was wondering how they hold up on highways? I do the occasional highway trip an hour north to see my mates, but it scares the shit out of me with my little 250 getting blown around

Most reliable Harley is Evolution engine that the German woke HD president discontinued. It’s the 883- the best Harley ever made discontinued so the can get you for 20k now.

Good to know it’s not just me. I’ve got an 17 r spec. Vance and Hines VO2 intake, Dean speed “Just the tip” slip on, Ivan’s Flash, the Koso tntB, drags bars and forward controls. The bolt really has been a great bike for my use. 14k miles I’ve put on it with maybe 200 of those on the freeway. Makes a great bike to bomb around town on.

I had a Vulcan S. Bike hauled ass. They say top end is 116mph. I don't believe that. I had mine at 130mph with a little throttle left. Possible I had a faulty instrument cluster...but I don't think so!!!

Harley has gotten rid of their entry level sportster 883 the venerable that we love. Now Harley has gotten even worse and they only want to sell only high-end models. No Sportsters for Harley chicks. HUGE MISTAKE- I’m done with Harley. Metric or Indian for this former motocross dude.
