Yamaha BB vs Fender Jazz (PJ vs JJ pickups) DI and amp sim
American Special Jazz bass and Yamaha BBP35 with both pickups on. First half is only DI with light compression and the second half is through Helix Native Ampeg SVT with 8x10 sim on. Both basses have medium old Ernie Ball Slinky strings and both have tone at 80%. Hope this helps someone!

I love the BB's growl!
I keep coming back to these video's, last time I said the Fender was my favourite, this time it's the Yamaha!

Great job!! Your demonstrations are always musical and of very high quality. It's amazing how close these basses sound to one another.
The Yamaha has more grunt from the P style split neck coils but the Fender seems to have a more rounded softer tone within the mix. Both are great bass’
They’re both great. Smooth playing, by the way. You just got a thumbs up and a new subscriber. 👍🏻
Thanks for making this! Helped as I was considering buying a BB735a. Which I am now enjoying thoroughly!

something about those yamaha basses man, i think i need one. just so aesthetically and sonically pleasing
Such clean playing😎
Thanks bro 🙌 that comparison did it I’m getting the bbp34 it’ll only sound better as it gets older!
Really appreciate your tasteful groove. Solid pocket.
Hampus. This definitely helped me. After much research on what new bass to buy, I had narrowed it down to Fender Jazz or Yamaha BB735A (perhaps BBP35). So your video was exactly the AB comparison I needed. Perfect. (And excellent playing). Decision made. If a guy must choose between these two stellar instruments, then it must be BB35! Thank you for taking time to do this.

@@treyhanna4127 I'll be honest I have not played the BP35. I just currently own the BB735A. When I meant Its even better it was just based on the videos I have seen in comparison to the BB735A AND FENDERS etc. It was also just based on my own opinion. However even though the specs are identical to the BB735A the BP35 is made in Japan with IRA treatment which gives it a tone as if the bass as been played for years enhancing the tone. It has a much more growly tone. But it also depends on what you prefer. Someone who owns both said on one of the vids the sustain of the BP35 is a much better. I love my BB735A im still in awe of such quality of what yamaha has put into this instrument. I have played other basses within the same price bracket and nothing compares. That's just my opinion though. Would be nice to get proper insight of someone who actually owns both. Check Miki Santamaria he demos both of these instruments.

I had a us fender jazz bass and i have a trbx 605 with the same neck of the bb 435, both are great basses, the fender is a bit heavy and i prefer the Yamaha's neck, the fender is magic, the Yamaha is very well made and easy to play, both sounds great. Nice video thanks 👍👏👏

I like them both! For recording, I would go with the Fender. For live playing, the Yamaha - SLIGHTLY over the Fender.
Yamaha!
Very well-made video, Hampus. Appreciate you using decent lighting and proper audio equipment. Nice, clean playing as well. Gotta go with the Yamaha, but it's uncanny how close the PJ can be to the Jazz. Thing I found with mine is that you're never really gonna "scoop" out that PJ's midrange organically like you just automatically do with the Jazz configuration.

I own both and it's a different tone from each, but both excellent. The BB is fatter and warmer where the Jazz is punchier with that classic mid scoop.

The BB basses have a sort of “medium” thick neck somewhere between a jazz and a P so very comfortable. This is a 5 however so obviously it’s a bit wider. Very playable.

@@zalle1 Have you played a cheap HB bass? They are not great sounding basses ... look nice but they skipped a beat on the pups and electronics. I own one because I was curious about them. I also have 2 Fender jazz basses and 10 Yamaha's. Trust me when I say the HB's are not in the same league unless you spend more than the bass initially cost to fix the problems. My HB is a wall flower, pretty looking but thats about it.
4 against 5 string, that is no way to compare. Of course the 4 string Fender sounds better.
