Yakshagana - Sudarshana Vijaya | Ms Ranjitha Yellur | TEDxSJEC
"Yakshagana is known for it's rare combination of various dimensions" - says Ms Ranjitha Yellur as she depicts a piece of "Sudarshana Vijaya" which translates to "Victory of Sudarshana" in her performance at TEDxSJEC.
Yakshagana, an extravagant dance-drama spectacle peculiar to Karnataka is an unique blend of dance, music, song, dialogues, and vibrant costumes. It is considered to have arisen from pre-classical music and theatre during the Bhakti movement. Ranjitha Yellur is a multifaceted individual, who has excelled in arts, sports, and academics. She is a Yakshagana artiste, Carnatic singer, athlete, and a debater. She hails from a family of artists and is trained in Yakshagana by her father and Yakshagana Guru, Shri Ramachandra Yellur. She is also a trained Carnatic Singer having passed Junior grade exam in Shastriya Sangeetha with distinction and Completed senior grade exam in 2019. Ranjitha was trained in Carnatic singing by Shri Krishnaraj Nandalike. Ranjitha is the recipient of the DK Rajyotsava award for Yakshagana. She has had the honour of performing Yakshagana in the Rashtrapathi Bhavan - New Delhi. Ranjitha was recognized by the DK Kannada Sahithya Academy and Kalkura Prathishtana’s Prathibha Award and was also entitled as “Kalarathna '' by the Bramhakumari’s Ishwareeya University. She is also a National Level Throwball Champion and has represented Karnataka in the 62nd National School Games. Kasaragod located in Kerala. Father of Yakshagana Parthisubba from Kasaragod district. More than 10 years Kerala Education department conducting Kalolstava state level this Art performed by other district students borrowed trainers from Kasaragod district. Even English language yakshagana also performing in Kerala.
