I got hooked on this fine soap opera while a freshman at University Of Georgia (1980) 😐

I was watching this soap opera for years this is my opinion l love the music it was better way back like in the 80s and the 90s l like the older Jill than the one they have on there now but you will never replace Victor and Nikki but congratulations on 50 beautiful years.

This had to be around the time when Bill Bell decided to change the landscape of the show's core families. With most of the Brooks and Foster families out of the picture, he decided to expand the families of front burner characters Jack Abbott and Paul Williams

Whilst I understood the creative decision to include rich. upwardly characters into Y&R, I personally felt the show lost touch with it's working/middle class roots when the choice was made to eliminate them from the show.

latino heat Brenda Dickson WAS the original Jill from 1973 to 1980, and again from 1983 to 1987. Deborah Adair played Jill from 1980 to 1983, and again in 1986 (as a brief substitute for Brenda Dickson)

Theme song beautiful music. Sending chills up and down my spine. I watched the first episode When I was 13 almost 14. Immediately drawn in.

@MrJuly1990ish - thanks for that. I don't really remember that Peter character to be honest, although i do remember Lorie's trial. At first I thought it could have been Jonas (remember him), but i think he was around earlier than 1982. I really loved the show when the Brooks/Fosters/Prenticess families were the focus. I guess this was about the time the show really starting changing and the Williams/Newmans/Abbotts began to take centre stage. Thanks again.

@justlikeitsounds That was Peter the lawyer who was the defense counsel for Leslie sister Lorie Brooks when she went on trial for the murder of her mother-in-law Vanessa Printess. From what I recall around this time (late winter 1982), when the trial was over both Peter & Leslie left town together to go get married in Vegas (I think) or for that matter, were written out of the show like most of the Brooks family.

MrJuly1990ish At first I thought that was soap actor Dan Hamilton who was on Another World.

I actually thought Melody and Lilibet looked quite a bit alike. At first, I thought Melody was with Kay and Kevin as well as Jack. Both look great!

@baf236 The actors name is Peter Brown, but yeah one of my aunts who use to be an Y&R fanatic (she stop watching like I did when the great Bill Bell died several years ago) had a Y&R history book of the show's past storylines up until the late 90's.

I loved the Brooks family and the Fosters, and always thought it was a shame they were all written off the show (except, of course, Jill). I mean they could have at least kept Lorie or Leslie!

Robert left town with wife (Clair Lawrence) and daughter (Angela Lawrence) and Leslie went on a world concert tour to try to forget Robert.

I have been asking myself the same thing! I mean as the show developed through the years, I'd have thought that the opening would have gotten better, but those drawings in the mid to late 80s left much to be desired. These looked much more professional.

Been watching this since it came on the air loved watching it but as the went on they took the good actors and actresses off and the story lines got bad writers dont know how to write good scripts so i dont watch it anymore
