We really don’t deserve their trust or their tolerance. That shows like this are still going on tell us that SeaWorld does not _love_ its orcas. If they did, they would stop making them perform in shows like this and find, or create, a sanctuary for them since many captive orcas cannot ever exist in the wild. Some love and trust.
I am surprised that, firstly, people are still paying to see orcas perform like this. I’m not surprised they are paying to see _orcas,_ orcas are extraordinary. But making them do these shows in captivity is not. I hope someday the captive orcas around the world can be put into sanctuaries. Secondly, I am surprised that _trainers_ are still getting into the pools with captive orcas. It’s a needless risk for orca and trainer. No, the chances of a trainer being harmed or killed are probably not very large-but there is a chance, and why risk it when it is completely unnecessary? This isn’t research. It’s not science. No one is risking their lives to study them. It’s a glorified aquatic circus.
