OMG I've never heard the "completionist anxiety" expression. This is so perfect to define my gaming life. Always playing games twice because the first time I just go as fast as possible without enjoying just to have some peace of mind the second time around.

I think the great thing about animal crossing and the animal crossing community is that we can all essentially have different experiences with the game depending how you choose to play. To use treasure islands or to grind. Time travel or not.

I completely agree with this! It's our game, we should play how we want. If players want to time travel to get builds done a little faster, so be it. If they want to wait for a bridge or incline to be built, that's great too. Another thing I think is great about it is we're a community that has a bunch of different design ideas too that can be shared and modified to fit our own islands while also helping get certain items someone else might be struggling to get without expecting much in return because most of us pay the kindness forward. Like, if I were to gift you a few simple panels that you needed and weren't able to order for some reason or another one day and the next, a villager that would otherwise be going to the void is going to someone who's been dying to get their dreamy after a few stacks of NMTs. Then the cycle of kindness and helping chaining to more and more people. It's the little things like that that I think makes this community great.

My possibly hot takes: HHP stresses me tf out because of the endless items you can use for decorating so I haven’t touched the DLC in months lol. And 2nd, you don’t need a theme for your island, themes have been so normalized and they’re almost expected at this point, but sticking to a theme is personally hard for me because I haven’t been able to complete an island. If you don’t want a theme, I’m an advocate of just decorating your island however your heart so desires

i didn't want to feel pressure to stick to one theme so i literally have like twenty themes on my island but they're all separate and have their own little areas. Like my villagers are all "fairycore" and I have a farm section and then I have a haunted forest i'm building right now. It takes away so much stress lol

Whenever people say time travelling is cheating all I hear are those 3 things : 1. I have no job, no life , no friends therefore I can spend my whole time on a video game 2. New horizons was my first game so I have no clue that it was included in previous games 3. I know nothing about actual cheating which brings NEW advantages and not something marked in time

I also have an unpopular opinion; I wish that you can get all types of fruit without having to pay for a subscription just to go to someone else's island. This game relies on solo gameplay so randomly adding multiple player options like getting fruit is pointless to me.

I don't understand how time traveling is such a problem for some. Me working on my island by time traveling has ZERO effect on a stranger's island. They can just as easily time travel if they want to. Maybe the problem lies in how ppl might feel insecure or pressured about their island development compared to others---- but they really shouldn't be! There's no one way to play the game, and it's OK to take your time OR speed things up. That's the beauty of it!

I think the reason people still feel like the game is unfinished is because they had removed so much from what the core of the game has always included. Like shop upgrades, more important roles for the alpacas, harriet, leif, kicks, labelle, etc. They also completely removed porter/champ, gracie, katie&her mom, copper&booker, digby, resetti&don, etc. And then the updates were kind of just a handful of things that the game should have been released with. So yeah they added the plaza area, but the npc's really deserved at least their own shops, and imho nintendo had watered down the comfy cozy small-town vibe that prior games had built Animal Crossing on. But nintendo also added soooo many amazing and previously unimaginable things in this game that I can't imagine AC without them, but it's a shame they didn't take the extra care in making sure that all the core characters were included in a special way and had their own little imporatant stories like in prior games lol, because title animal crossing games had never just been solely a decorating game before (aside from hhd, but that was a spinoff), and that's why longtime fans were disappointed.

I 100% agree with nitentalk's opinion on spacing out the 2.0 update! I also wish there was an option to change the music or just mute the acnh music whenever you like! I LOVEE THE MUSIC AT THE VERY START OF ACNH and I'm sad you cannot change the music up! Often times I have to switch my music off because it just gets repetitive and annoying or sometimes, I just play it mute and search up on the internet ac songs instead. Which I don't really like having to do EVERYTIME! And I also agree with having a Female Jock, Male Peppy etc. how cool would that be! ONE MORE THING if you decide on just keeping the tent permanently, I wish you can still move it wherever you like any other building!🥺

I would love to see the personalities mix genders and have a shake up but I just don’t think they will because I think Nintendo’s thinks they have “matching” personality sets in the genders (jock and a sisterly, cranky and snooty, peppy and smug, normal and lazy) it’s too antiquated now but I’m just not confident in Nintendo’s ability to change

the bug-off and fishing tourney *mainly bug-off* should only be active in most seasons expect winter. I find it hard to get bugs in the winter time and it gets stressful, maybe replace it with another bug activity that could be functional with the winter season?

the hourly music helps me remember what time it is in the game since I time travel and with the weather time change it gets confusing and I move a lot, so I don’t have to stop to check the time. The songs kinda give me an idea of what time it is.

I think grinding for everything in ACNH without using time traveling or something like nookazon would just lead to burn out quicker

Time traveling was perfect for those on a 3rd shift. There's only certain things you can get/do during the day.

A bit off topic but I think I wouldn't feel so burnt out if moving buildings didn't require a full day to take place. I have no patience to time travel back and forth and it's very frustrating. Not no mention when you put a house a tiny bit off place and you can't move to the right spot because it overlays where the house currently is misplaced, than you have to move it twice just because you got one square wrong and there you go two whole days just for that.

The most stressing thing for me: consecutive fish catching. I've tried to hit 100 ever since I started playing this September. Most I got was around 60. And then earlier last week, I accidentally looked over my consecutive fish caught note and saw I was at 92. "Cool, I'll just hammer out 8 more and be done." I twitched on number 98. sigh.....

If you really want to get the achievement just fish for a little and do things in between. The next time you don't catch it just close the game and it won't save and you won't lose your streak. By doing things in between fishing you won't have to restart from complete scratch.

It's so fun to see unpopular opinions that most of the comments end up agreeing with. But also, Nintendo must be losing their minds trying to figure out what we want in the next game 🙃

Brewster IS pointless- he should've had his own coffee shop, at least he'd serve as usable Island decor. Also agree Zipper is gold - I also love gulliver! The Music is mostly good except 5 and 7pm they sound like cheap p0rn.

Time travelling is interesting. I played from release until July without time travelling and I enjoyed that experience immensely. But once you've done it, the magic that comes along daily gameplay can't be recaptured. Now the game has become about design which is much better with time travel. I also used a ton of time travel to complete my museum. So I get the initial anti-time travel take, but eventually that wears off.

I got Raymond on my first island as my must take camper and game him to a friend that has a weakness for characters with heterochromia. didn't know at the time he was the most sought after cat. I just shrugged him off. While I have him on my current island, he's still not my favorite villager. He's cute and will have a place on my island always but that's only because I ship him with my favorite villager, Olivia.

I don't time travel because I used to time travel in New Leaf and would do it a million times rather than waiting for anything. I can see why people would time travel in the new game and I am tempted to travel out of winter, as my favorite season is summer (and fall), and it's a bummer that it's so cold outside irl AND in the game, but, so far, I haven't even once.

the music in acnh is very cute but it can't compare to the wild world music imo!! maybe it's because of my nostalgia but ww music just SLAPS

There are definitely elements of New Horizons that I do really love, but as someone who has been playing all of the North American-available Animal Crossing releases since the GameCube title was released, NH is definitely my least favorite of them all. I miss the cozy charm of the older games. I miss the abundance of seasonal events, that felt more special and more like a little shared secret between us as players and our villagers. I loved the police station in the older games and how useful the dump was. I also really miss how many shop upgrades there were! And the Gracie mini-game!! I want to love New Horizons as much as I do the older games, but it just isn't there for me. I'm not even someone who has time-traveled excessively, I've never gone to a treasure island, I have less than 1000 hours in the game. And I'm just bored. Don't get me started on all of the old furniture sets that we didn't get in NH 😭 I'm not upset that we won't be getting anymore updates; overall, I just think the game lacks the charm and coziness of the previous titles.

I love the music changing hourly, it is a perfect touch. Although, they have done way better hourly melody’s than in acnh 2o’clock music makes me want to implode

I’ve been playing it for a year but was kinda blindsided and didn’t know what to do. I just learned what and how tulips work.

Mine would be that I love Shari, pee hands excluded. 😂 She's like a grandma especially if you give her bathrobes. She always gave me meds when the wasps attacked me. Lol

New Leaf had an incredible sound track.

I used to not like time traveling- I never thought it was cheating though. I just wanted to enjoy the game as it was intended. However, almost 3 years in and I rarely play on the date or time that is right now- I am usually in spring or fall. I hate winter, so I skip it. Also, It's hard to get events in when you're busy in your real life. So, I time travel to do events as well. Not time traveling is really only fun for the first year- after that who cares. But, It's never cheating lol- you can't cheat in a game that you don't win.

I’ve only played the GameCube version and now ACNH. I wasn’t interested in the way it looked on the Wii and I just didn’t get into the DS versions (too small), even tho I’ve been playing Pocket Camp for five years haha😅 With the GameCube version I liked collecting items, furnishing my home and finishing my bug, fish and fossils collection (never caught the banded dragonfly, ugh). With ACNH I love decorating! I love HHP and I wish I could use everything on my island that I can there. I also want to finish my museum on my own with no help. I have only three fish left to catch and it will be complete. Oh and the villager I don’t like is Flip. Idk why but he’s last on my list. I love Grizzly and Rio. They are my top faves. Hope everyone just has fun playing and will continue to. 😀

To that person who insulted summer in this game.... HAH i bet they're a spring person. The only thing i like about spring is the weeds, if only i could have those lushy purple pink weeds in the summer, but overall spring reminds me of grandmas and it's too overly light, whereas summers are lively with activity, and i love the bugs.

My hot take is that I think natural and vintage island themes are super boring. People want to make the game as realistic as possible, but with all the natural islands I've seen nobody adds color to them. These themes are always so bland and colorless with only browns, greens, beiges and other stuff that takes the color out of the game. It's fine if you like the beige color pallet but for me its just really tiring to look at
