Foresight Hogan is the joke that stuck and became a running joke, but even take that part out, and this episode's still an instant classic. Evil Jimmy Hart, Pulse's rant about the Nasty Boys, "I KILLED BRODY!", basically everything about Hail, all of it's gold. The XWF truly was too perfect to succeed.

I just realized So if I remember correctly, the XWF existed during the short power vacuum that existed between WCW & ECW folding/being bought out and the birth of TNA and the like. If I remember correctly, a lot of WCW’s main eventers still had active contracts when they were bought out. It’s the reason why Hogan, Hall, Nash, and Goldberg didn’t debut in the WWF until 2002-2003 (even though Vince could’ve and SHOULD’VE just bought out their contracts instead of waiting a year for them to expire but that’s besides the point). Hogan couldn’t have been in the XWF even if he *wanted to* , and he only shows up in the post-mortem DVD because he’s friends with the company’s founders and they wanted to get more DVD sale money off of this long-dead money pit. Jimmy Hart you actual genius fucking leech you are, baby.

It would have been illegal for Hogan to be appearing on TV for XWF until the contract expired in May 2002, yes, but the first taping was done in November 2001; when they were taping shows prior to having any sort of TV deal, 6+ months of shopping around for a network willing to air, set up a debut date, time slot, etc. is by no means out of the realm of possibility. Him simply appearing in person may or may not be considered a breach of contract, depending on if the contract was specifically about television appearances, as an in-ring wrestler(regardless of television), or appearing for a wrestling promotion, on air or not, in any capacity. In 2001, when it was essentially national TV, syndicated channels over the air, or straight to video distribution, and contracts actually _could_ be specific to if it was in-ring or not and televised or not. Even if he _was_ in breach of contract, though, WWF would have to not only be aware of it happening in a timely manner, but take action as well with the utmost of haste. If he's appearing at, what at the time looks like a small indy show that won't actually amount to anything, the Fed may not even bother until finding out months later that this was actually a TV taping. It's similar to ECW and ROH using legitimate licensed music and not getting sued; they were simply small enough for a long time to fly under the radar. It would be a bit pointless at best, too late at worst, to sue Hogan for breach of contract after his contract has already expired.
