You've undoubtedly seen my video on the XW Pro. Based on Schneider's response to it, I'm going to give it another shot. I had no issue with load capability, but rather the software glitches and tech support, which are just as important as the capacity. Thanks for sharing!

You have a defective unit. If you open the front cover and look at the MCU board, I bet you have HW v1.1 board in it. SolArk will send you a replacement HW v1.2 board and your issues will go away. The symptoms you are having are exactly the problem I was having. I was using a 120 VAC compressor. You also need to update the firmware as well. Once repaired, they will run very well even with unbalanced 120 VAC loads.

My neighbors installer just finished a solark 12k install with 6kw of PV. The installer promised it would start a 3/4hp 42a surge 240v well pump. Let’s just say it can’t and he had to move the pump back from critical loads panel to main panel for grid power. When the pump kicks on with solark, it just beeps and resets. Installer isn’t helping resolve saying the solark spec says it can. This video is very informative

Tell them they can salvage it by adding Soft Start kits to their heavy loads like the AC compressor or well pump. Even my cheaper Sigineer 6Kw can start my AC now-just barely. I am about to install this Schneider XW Pro and I was using the Signieer all in one as my starter inverter, and I am super happy because I had very low expectations for the Sigineer. Once I install the XW Pro I will probably keep the cheaper one for a small country house or as a backup. But I knew the Schneider was the better bet based on tear downs. 170Lbs for inverter it says on my pallet. That is HEAVY! My Sigineer Power 6Kw UL Listed inverter is only 70 Lbs-not even in same class.

Thanks for the video! I wish it was out before I bought my system. I am using a Sol-Ark 12k off-grid and was very disappointed when my miter saw would trip the inverter. I bought a soft starter for it, and that pretty well solved the problem, but then I tried another saw and even the soft starter would not keep it from tripping. And, I experienced the same result when I tried to start my air compressor! The Sol-Ark is transformerless which makes it much more efficient but makes it basically two paralleled 4.5k inverters. I believe each line will actually handle 4.8 - 4.9k before tripping off. I am solving this problem by adding an autotransformer to my main panel. While on, this perfectly balances all the loads and makes it to where the Sol-Ark only sees a single 240V load. It will actually put out 9kW reliably under these conditions and combines the surge capabilities of the two legs, but it does take an efficiency hit. I plan to test exactly how much of a hit, so I can manage it (turn off the autotransformer when/if not needed). By the way, the reset time after the Sol-Ark inverter trips is programable and can be set to much lower. I have mine set to 15 seconds. In addition, the surge capabilities are expanded when you have solar power coming into the unit. This was confirmed as my saws would start more reliably during nice sunny days and not so much as darkness fell. My only experience with the XW Pros was with a large system of two banks of 3 inverters. One failed almost out of the box. I found them to be flakey and finicky in their operation, way too involved to setup to work with the grid and a generator, the native monitoring was terrible, and Schneider's support was not great. That experience and one other (different model) ruined me on Schneider inverters. Sorry ... If I had it to do over, I would probably pay a little more and setup a Victron system. I have a small Victron system in my RV and it has performed flawlessly. My 3k inverter will even start every tool I have (never tried the air compressor). My only complaint is that the factory support is quite lacking, but there is a large knowledge base out there from which to draw. My two cents ... thanks again!

Bob, You are so correct. The problem is very few understand how to make it all work correctly. Off grid is NOT plug and play ! also one manufacture for all components is usually not the best for the customer. I find the biggest problem is many installers install and walk away when programing is as important as having the correct equipment.

Great video and demo. Thanks. I'm sold. I was down to Schneider vs Victron Quattro due to their quality and toroidal transformers. It came down to the Schneider having 120/240 so I could run my well pump reliably. To get 240 from Victron, I was going to have to go for pairs of 3kW, 5kW, 10kW and an external autotransformer, or a 15kW. I was concerned with the higher idle power consumption of the bigger/more complex Victron, so I ordered the Schneider. Thanks again.

That is why I parallel 3 Growatt 5k inverters with 4 48VDC battery banks (60KW). Only the Schneider can do it with 1 and a huge price tag. I also like redundancy and only need 1 inverter to run my loads but as he stated it takes 2 for huge load startups. I might change to Schneider's inverters in the future as I already bought.

FYI The Sol-Ark will auto reset itself in one minute for most errors. Did you go into the Inverter settings and change the Battery Capacity Value? The first test of 90 Amps on one leg is way above what the Sol-Ark can handle. The second test was reasonable but you have a flashing Yellow error light on the Battery Indicator which means you are nearing or exceeding the discharge current limit you set for your battery bank. If you get to the limit it will Trip the inverter in order to save your BMS.

The battery banks we were able to retrieve from a telecom company are Absolyte GX 48 volt, 2,000 Amp Hour. The small 4048 won't be able to charge one of two batteries much less two battery banks that size. How many kilowatts of solar panel are you running and what size of generator to you operate to charge your batteries? I would imagine the 8048 you have can push a lot of power. Thanks for any feedback.

Their hardware is wonderful, but for most people, the Sol-Ark is the better choice on grid (as an installer most customers have an easier time understanding the Sol-Ark vs the Schneider). Off grid, I definitely feel better with a Schneider system or an Outback system. Great video showing some real world usage!

Having said that, my brother-in-law has pure grid-tie solar and wants to add off-grid ability, and I've been looking at the XW Pro for a while. My Deye doesn't complain if one leg is almost full load and the other has nothing. Also, it runs my old 4-ton (non-inverting) AC just fine. I only have a small air compressor that everything seems to be able to start.

We became a factory authorized and trained service center for Trace Engineering in 99 and can confirm that everything you say in your excellent video is true. High frequency transformerlless inverters, whether Chinese or US made, simply cannot produce a sufficient surge capacity to power high surge inductive loads. A much better, longer lasting inverter will always be a low frequency, transformer, based inverter like the XW.

When I'm grid tied it's smart as hell about when/where/how-much to apportion to which load and sell-back and battery. One i wired up my own local data collection (instead of needing a chinese website) it's been smooth sailing. Built out the PV array and now have two 12k paired together. Also super smart about how they work together.

Inverter wars. Schneider does not seem like a good fit for off-grid, DIY type of installations from what I've gathered in the interwebs, but does seems like well designed equipment. What I'd really like to see someday is a real life comparison to issue resolution/customer support for these companies. I like the dump load and generator peak shaving features of the Sol Ark. Spot on, ran solark offgrid since 2019, the only tweak is using an auto transformer for large compressor and chop saw. Never had a 240v device trip it, welding and plasma cutter high amp. It’s pretty seamless setup off grid with gen and smart loads, built in 12kw mppt and hybrid efficiency. Offgrid is not plug and play, ppl need to design the system and it’s certainly not just load capability.

Frickin awesome. Was looking at a solark and no longer am. Haha. I have cheap electrical price. But our power goes off more often than i think common household does. I live in the middle of no where. 160 acres. I’m looking for a device that can be a whole house UPS. I have (16) 390w solar panels and we get a lot of sun, except 50% of our winter days are foggy. I want my house to take our abundance of sun and use as much as it can before taking our utility power. When the power goes off I want MOST outlets and devices to be powered. I think I’m okay with 90% of our 240VAC appliances being off line during a power outage. But I’d love to have our 240V well pump powered. I have a lot to figure out. I live close to Grand Coulee dam in Washington state and our bill is 6.8 cents per kW, which is why I didn’t want to spend too much on solar. I bought Tammarack 4-panel array mounts.

I have this in my garage about to install it! I already have my solar working with a cheaper "learner" 6Kw inverter from Sigineer because I did not want to destroy my Schnieder while I learned electrical engineering. My questions is, I have have 3x5 375 watt REC panel strings with DC optimizers feeding into an AIMS Power Combiner box, and the combiner box sends out a perfect 200 volts. I know the Schneider XW Pro doesn't need the combiner box, but I love the performance and safety of the AIMS Power combiner box because it also has fuses for Lightening, can I just pull out the Sigineer inverter and drop in the XW Pro keeping the lightening protection of the combiner box and put this PV group on one string feeding into the inverter? Will this manager a 200 volt input well or do I have to put them all into series to have higher voltage? I prefer keeping the voltage lower but the XW Pro has a higher voltage rang up to 600 so I am not sure.

That's regardless of what the actual battery discharge capacity is. This is quite a bit different than the surge figures in Sol-Ark's datasheet which they say only apply when on grid. Definitely not the way I interpreted before I bought.

I have installed and personally used both. Solark tells you upfront they limit each phase and the power between phases cant be combined. I’ve never had one trip under a rated power. What Solark does that Trace does not is provide built in mppt inputs that eliminates the need for expensive multiple charge controllers. Their software in my opinion offers is better by being simple and more intuitive than Trace/ Schneider. The learning curve to make the Trace system do what the Solark does is quite lengthy, and requires purchasing and integrating multiple add-on components that are problematic for new guys to deal with. I think the Solark offers a lot for the money. In all fairness their product has only been out a couple of years and Trace has has decades to improve their game. I’d say Trace/Schneider is a superior product in some regards but not all areas. And in fairness to Solark, you should mention the Schneider product does not provide any charge controller built into the XW. You have to purchase that separate. And if you have high voltage panels get ready to pay thousands for what Solark provides built in to their inverter. I think Schneider missed the boat on that one years ago. For management of a pv array and charging batteries Schneider is not even in the game with the XW inverter alone. For starting loads Schneider is a superior product in some regards. However, I think there are important aspects of the comparison that you’re leaving out.

@@tompayne695 I think there is some value to your comment, however not every customer is “off grid”. Whereas, I would agree that adding complex function to a device reduces its reliability, I would also say having multiple separate components to perform the same thing increases risk to an equal degree. And if you are “off grid” does it matter if you have a separate inverter and charge if either fail? You could argue it’s cheaper to have a spare charge controller but what guarantee do you have the inverter won’t fail? You still have multiple points of potential failure. I have an off grid property and I have both types of systems installed and neither have ever failed. Furthermore, all of the customers that I’ve ever sold a Solark to were grid tied and simply wanted a backup in the event of a power failure. There is no risk there and it’s a cheaper way to accomplish the same thing. I would bet on Schneider before I bet on Solark in general but only due to the fact they have been doing this for many years. Their reputation is solid in the industry and it’s a great product. It also costs more. No free lunches. My Solark has only been in place for a year but it has been a reliable device and I see no reason to discount it as an off grid solution. My point is one device with two failure points is no different than two separate devices that are both required to perform one task. The only advantage I see is if you gamble the failure point will be a less expense component however that is not guaranteed. The only true guarantee is a backup system. Two is one and one is none.. as they say.

Charge controller consumption is almost non existent. (I know because at 10800 watts of solar on 12 volts I've got a lot of them). Not a factor compaired to the Sol-Arc's idle consumption let alone two of them, which is a bunch. The main difference between the choice of the XW/Trace line of inverters and the Sol-Arc is what the consumer is trying to end up with. Bullet proof, proven reliability and garanteed power vrs trying to save money by evading payments to the utility companies with a quick and easy installation as the main priority. For an installer knocking down 70 systems as you have, its the same strategy as your installing Kyle's quick and easy ground mounts. The best way to generate high volume and make maximum bucks. Good for you but not necessarily the best option for someone who wants brute power and reliabilty no matter what it costs or how much labor it takes to do the install. The fact that you have to propose adding soft start controllers and even transformers that the XW already comes included in the design speaks for itself. My two Trace SW2512's have been running problem free for 23 years and I'm from the old school like this gentleman is. We went off grid not to save money, but to have power for critical loads no matter what. When the system actually does go belly up running cental air is an unneeded and unsustainable luxury versus reliably starting a deep well pump which is mandatory. Both this gentleman and myself of been operating our systems since before the current flock of manufacturers and installers ever heard of alternative energy. Even though over a time frame of 23 years the cost calculations of panels/batteries have completely reversed I'll still be keeping my current system. Our strategy will prove to be the best in the long run when money doesn't matter any more.

I am glad I found your channel. I used to watch Jack Rickard's channel but he passed away. Jack used to use Tesla batteries to experiment with, I can't wait to see what you come up with now. I am going to be retiring in Southwest Asia and I have a solar power system there already but I will be adding a few. The inverter I am using there now is the Deye which is a Sol-Ark under a different name that outputs 240v. Sol-Ark has a deal to be the sole provider of Deye in the US. I am using that inverter because it was available. I've been thinking about going to Victron but now I am looking at the XW Pro too. Sol-Ark / Deye can be "paralleled" for up to like 16 units. I don't know if that would help in the testing you are doing, but the Deye inverter I bought overseas was 1,600-ish dollars for an 8kw unit so I can string a few of those together before I get to the price of one in the US. Deye and Sol-Ark are made in the same factory and have the same software, only the case looks different. I want to eventually run 240v/60hz to some plugs and devices and 120v/60hz to others so I can run stuff I have from the US too. It sounds like a will need another inverter to do the 120v/60hz stuff which is mostly electric motors and stuff that can't switch between both like a laptop can. I've got 16 panels of 500 watts each on the roof and 16 more ready to install. The batteries are 200ah 48v and I have 6 of those. The batteries I have are 300 lbs a piece. I am not so savvy on what I need so I am hoping to learn from you on your channel!!

When almost recharged I can readings that show the slave is powering the master. other than efficiency loss is it hurting anything?

Quick question: Sol-ark 12kW and Sol-ark 15kW both appear to struggle with drawing current from batteries. 12kW max. I assume that the Schneider 12kW struggle regardless of whether it draws power from the PV's, the batteries or the grid. How does the Sol-Ark 15kW if it has an ability to bypass grid current @ 48kW? Did they create this bypass feature to compete with Schneider's superior surge handling? Would Sol-Ark have tocopy Schneiders design and do the 48VDC to 48VAC first and then use a transformer to step up 48VAC to 240VAC? This that the main difference between the two is that Sol-Ark is transformerless and converts 48VDC directly into 240VAC instead?

There is no question an autotransformer based inverter performs far better. The Sol-Ark 15kW has so many great features including a 200 amp pass-through and 5.5ms transfer time with ability to charge batteries from the PV during a grid failure and start the generator when the batteries hit a pre-set voltage as well as kill the generator at a pre-set voltage. It can do peak shaving, and time-of-use. It can handle old, dirty generators for battery charging. There are SO many other features. But it has the same power/leg limitations as the 12k. It's really disappointing. You CAN buy an autotransformer to put on it but then it's even more expensive than its already sky-high price. I have a SunGoldPower (of all things) 12kW inverter that's a powerhouse. It runs my 2800 SqFt house with no complaints, including an electric oven. It weighs 200 pounds because of its monstrous transformer. That's how it's done, IMHO. Now that I'm going on-grid I need to replace it with something that's UL rated and can deliver like the SunGold. Maybe a UL Rated SunGold? I know they work!

It likely will (1 HP is less than 1000W) but you need to check the specs on your batteries and determine if they have a max amps where their BMS (assuming Li-Ion) shuts them off. Your limitation in this setup would be battery capacity, the inverter could empty those batteries in under 2 hours but it's not likely they could support that level of draw.
