    Jay, on the ring for the chisel I believe you have to have a fiber laser. The engraving on the cups, the laser is removing the painted surface and not actually scoring the metal. We are not as far into the business aspect as your wife, but I’m sure my wife will take off running as soon as we have all our systems in place. I second you on that emergency stop, hope the company improves on their next version of this machine or better yet, make it so that all new machine orders have an improved E-stop feature. You explained everything very well!

    The ring is aluminum and the engraving is just removing the coating. Co2 can do that.

    I have a D1 Pro 20W laser with the air purifier you mentioned. I have found the purifier is great for inside, however, It fills up with particles very quickly and the replacement filters are not cheap. I have tried blowing out the pre-filter, which does help, but the bigger part of the filter must be replaced and can not be blown out. I'm working on getting set up to just discharge through a hose to the outside to save on all the filter costs. This will require an in-line fan as the fan on the cover for my D1 Pro is not very strong.

    I agree with easy access to E-Stops. I don’t think it’s too bad on the side especially if the operator is sitting there most of the time by laptop. But you are correct, a second one on top or front in case of an issue with a feed through issue. Really liking that P2 and want to get one, but still a bit more than what I’d spend.

    My laser is on the way now, but ive had a CNC for 4ish years now. I LOVE my CNC. But the more I look into the laser stuff, I more I realized alot of the things Ive done on my CNC I could of done on a laser. And they might have come out better. Like Ive built alot of shop type things like a cordless tool holders with shelves with a hex pattern on the outside out of plywood. Im thinking im going to try building another on of the exact same thing and see if it takes me less machine time. But I do think using both the CNC and Lasers is the answer to really being able to make some really cool things. Well or just the router and laser

    I have a Glowforge. I also have used larger Epilog lasers at the makerspace I worked at. I really like my Glowforge. This looks pretty cool. I haven’t seen one that can do the curved surface engraving. And some of the other things look pretty cool.. If I was to get a second smaller one I’d probably look into one of these.

  • @AngieWilliamsDesigns

    @AngieWilliamsDesigns

    I’m also really glad that you made the comment about not leaving it unattended. Soooo many people think that’s not an important thing. When I worked at the makerspace I had two fires happen. Luckily they were contained. But they only happened because the user was distracted and not paying any attention to what they were doing. Both experienced users. You gotta be safe. I will add though… the safety button… seems to kinda be unnecessary. Maybe not on that machine. But on every machine I’ve used the button that starts it will also pause it. Which stops the laser from producing power. So it essentially shuts the source down. Only thing I’m curious about is that lock you mentioned that locks the lid. If that allows you to open it… that would be great. I also would like to have that time counter on my laser. That’s handy.

    I was watching your "Laser Business First Two Months=xTool P2. " By the time you got to going over the cost, I jumped to your channel look for the answer to my question, Why xTool? You answered that one right off at the beginning of this video. Unfortunately that appear to be the most popular answer amongst youtubers. What's holding me back from pulling the trigger is the cost. I would need the bundle to take advantage of the pass through and the rotary. So, to enter this game for my first laser, I will need to bust open the piggy bank + plus save up a little more. If someone can do this for fun with a laid back approach and make profit. My thought is what can I accomplish if I just turn it up a notch. Can I be in that friend and family group?

I have been looking for a good "retirement" system to make extra money. Now all I need is a generous sugar momma, a fair lottery win or the right bank heist and I am good to go. Can't wait until the next video.

    Good overview of the machine but also interesting to hear how your wife has taken such an interest in using it. Your point about the emergency stop is a good point the manufacturer should consider. It is critical to have a fire extinguisher close by - which I see one right behind the machine. Doesn't mater that someone watches the fire start - they need to stop it if it starts to spread. Were you implying that the laser can engrave metal like your bands around the tool. I haven't heard of a CO2 laser being able to do this - can this machine engrave metal that is not powder coated or coated with some material. Great video. BTW I need lessons from your wife about how to sell things. I can't figure out how to get people wanting to buy things looking forward to your third video.

    Great review. Although I believe you are being a bit harsh about the Emergency Stop, although it’s not ideally located. I too am a woodworker with a shop full of equipment and own the P2 and a CNC. The blades and bits on standard woodworking equipment are exponentially more hazardous than the P2 laser. The laser function doesn’t work without the lid closed (unless the switch has been overridden (not recommended). A small fire inside, although an emergency, is not going to remove a finger or a limb as wood cutting equipment would do. And, pressing the P2 E-stop isn’t going to put out the fire either. It’s simply going to stop the laser from running. Overall that was a very thorough review! Looks like your wife is taking it over and she’s killin’ it in sales. I like that they have made an auto fire extinguisher. 🧯 Oh, and very sorry about your dog. They’re family too.

  • @drewpickard554

    I agree with you about the Emergency stops. You can call me dumb but ive gotten into the habit of I get ready to use a tool, in the position Im working then just touch the E stop. Just to be aware of where it is, had some times Ive needed it and been flustered then hunting. I do have cheaper tools than you, your bandsaw E stops are awesome. Now with my CNC and I will do the same on my laser, I use surge protectors, but I leave them not hidden and in the case of my CNC I put it in what I call my safe zone. Like the side of the machine where the rail runs. Just if something goes flying thats less exposed than the front. So if something bad happens and it has, my body is covered while I hit the kill all the power.

  • @JayBates

    No clue. Estimated lifespan is 6000-8000 hours. Divide the replacement cost of the machine by lifespan hour's and its not a bad investment with the money being generated. Let's see about longevity. I hope it's good.

    @@JayBates info I've seen on other co2 lasers says it depends on how hard you push it. They suggest not running it over 70% power. Maybe xtool is different somehow.. I was just suggesting that if the machine is that expensive, replacement parts will be too. But maybe a regular co2 tube will work..

    I know you were mostly joking, but every joke is often based on real belief of the comedian. I use CNC as a hybid woodworker. For instance, this week, I took a discarded silver maple branch, cut a turning blank on the bandsaw, turned a beer tap handle out of that, filled the carpenter ant tracks that were left with epoxy. Cleaned that back up..slabbed out a 4 inch branch of that same tree on the same bandsaw, laser cut a logo on one slab for that tap handle on the xtool, jigged up that turned beer tap handle on a Shapeoko CNC wood router, silhouetted the spot for that laser cut logo. Attached.. finished it with a monocoat. Now, should I make a tongue in cheek inverse comment about not consider someone a woodworker because they can't work at my level by incorporating hand/power/computer together? Do I not consider cabinet makers woodworkers because that's more about production, right angles and jigging than it is about art? We have to get out of the mindset that "Just because x woodworker uses y tool, they're not a real woodworker". Use the tools you have to enhance your creativity. This is one of them. Laser cutting and engraving as well as CNC routing is a HUGE level up for bespoke woodworking marketing items.
