I watched a LOT of upgrade videos, bc I got both the 40w and extension rails. I can't say this was the "best" video, but he casually answers what i thought were obvious questions, but the other videos did not. And when yiu are trying to pit things back together after a cat... this was great to watch.
You are the man! Very informative. I have an extension kit coming and was planning on putting another grid board under it. Thanks for saving everyone a lot of time.
I'm pretty new to diode lasers... just getting into them. I have to say that this channel has been a *fantastic* resource. Thank you!
Thank You Roger! This is the only video online other than XTool's video, which doesn't have any detail and it goes super fast. We have the D1 Pro, but used your video and it worked out for us. Again Thank you!!!!
Thank you for your patience with this video! I had the instructions lined up along the machine while playing and pausing your video (plus another one) to assemble mine for any missing parts or views of what to do. I am excited to get this up and running.
This helped me tremendously! I appreciate the time you took to make this video. Thank you!
Hi Roger! Just a quick note - I picked up the extension last year and really haven't used the extended length much, but I wanted to say that I burned a layout grid today and I finally get it. For the longest time, I was thinking that I'd always be using the honeycomb grid - which I do, but now that I'm starting to engrave more than cut, it occurred to me how great it would be to have a grid like this. Now I can just place my work piece at 600x200 and using absolute positioning - I'm good to go. Thanks a lot for putting this together.
Love the drag chain. I just bought an extension for mine and a large honeycomb bed. Looking to upgrade some wiring while I got it all disassembled.
Thank you for this. Way more detailed than XTool’s video.
Love your detailed videos and your explanations thank you
Cold, AND snow? I would think it would be too cold for heavy snow fall. That's crazy out there. Great video though. I am free watching after finally getting the extension kit.
Thanks man, I was close to throwing this thing across the room. I saw you tapped the ends into the frame. Now I got it!!!
Really useful, thank you very much. I am building an enclosure so would like to find a workaround for the drag chain going so high but everything else is exactly what I needed to know
Very helpful video, many thanks!
Wish I found this two nights ago! The Xtool vid was woefully inadequate. I need to make that drag chain mod.
This is SUPER helpful. I just got my extentions and they are still sitting in the box. Gonna install tomorrow. I have to look into those feet holders.. I dont have a 3D printer but maybe I can find some kind of plumbing flange that will work the same way

Damn... now I have to buy a 3D printer! Nice video - thinking about those extensions.
Extension kit on the way, big discounts as it’s farther day week so took the plunge. Also ordered the air assist module. A bit disappointed they don’t do the honeycomb bed with the extension, they have missed a trick hear! Why doesn’t someone design a honeycomb bed with a vacuum attachment? Very happy with the xtool d1 pro, still learning!!! Interesting you have added the drag chain, should have come with one as it makes sense….
Thanks Roger, new subscriber :)
Very helpful video. I went to the page to find the grid and only grid I found was the 300x300 version. I scrolled further and just reached the bottom of the page that had other videos and where you put in your info for the 'contact us' area

Thanks! Great clarity for even myself....a complete newbie looking forward to purchasing my first laser. I wish to do one thing. Cut 1/16" thick hardwood veneer for marquetry. Question, is this 40watt laser fully addiquit? Or would a CO2 have advantages? Thanks! just jim
Thank you for the video. Diffently will be using it. Also, will the spoilboard grid work with the D1 pro 20 watt, or do you have a 20-watt grid. Thank you, Rodger, for all your videos.

If using my file with a 20 watt head, cut the power in half. If it is not dark enough, run it twice.
Really appreciate your video. I just got the D1 Pro w/ Ext kit. I watched the Xtool video and it was too fast, yours helped me get a few key parts like reinstalling the pulley cables. I have mine on a Husky mobile workbench 24" x 52". It fits just perfect with the room for the air assist on back on D1. Wondering if this is okay for regular workspace or if I should get a longer workbench. Do you find you work just within the space for engraving or are some of your pieces larger and require more working space? Love the extras you added to yours and looking to buy.

I don't generally make signs longer than 48" and there is space under the laser frame to let the project hang over the ends when needed. Since I have this mounted to a 24" x 48" base, it is portable (enough) to be able to move around.

Great to hear! I have that same bench being delivered tomorrow. The D1 Pro arrived today. Anxious to say the least.
I have this same setup on the way right now. Thanks for the video. I noticed your aren't wearing the protective "glasses". Does the shield surrounding the laser remove the need for the glasses?
@rogersshop

The shield does an adequate job of blocking the laser light so long as you are not looking straight at it. A casual glance is all I would do without my goggles. If looking directly at it, especially for a long period, I wear my goggles.

@Roger's Shop I gotcha. Thanks for the reply. Can't wait to start getting mine setup.
Thank you for this info, I have only one question where can I find that width the 24" because the D1 Pro w/ Ext kit only support this work area of 936*432mm (36.85''*17'')?
@rogersshop
Жыл бұрын
The 24" dimension I give is the size of the baseboard in width.
I received the extension kit and have an extended crumb tray and drag chain on order. For your signs, do you do have a technique for the edges or just straight edge?
@rogersshop
Жыл бұрын
Generally, just straight. On occasion I will do round or a shape, depending on the end result I want. Most layered signs will have a custom shape. If the base layer is thicker than 1/4", I use a band saw or a scroll saw to cut the outline that I make on the wood with the laser. (Saves making a paper pattern!)
Since you have used both the Xtool D1 and the Ortur Laser Master 3, which one do you prefer? I was thinking about getting the new OLM3 lite since it is cheaper but not sure yet.

I have no preference here between the two. I own two of each. Both do the same thing and neither has given me any problems.

Make sure that the switch on the motherboard is in the correct position, both before upgrading firmware , and after. If not "on" when uploading the firmware, it won't take. If not "off" after the firmware update, it will not recognize the change. Make sure laser is off when changing switch position. I don't use Creative Space for anything other than firmware updates, so can't offer anythiing further. I did have the same issue, but it was because my switch position was incorrect the first time I tried this.

I can't seem to find it (computer illiterate) 2- do you sell your grid burn? 3- how can I order a set of your mounting blocks to keep it in place? 4- can I also order a set of your mounting blocks for the drag link? A couple of things to check (and re-do). Make sure the switch on the motherboard is "on" when loading firmware, then "off" when done. Do not leave the SD card in that has the firmware on it after upgrading. 2nd item: Reload the latest firmware, taking care to observe the above. Best to put the firmware on a card that is fresh formatted, and contains nothing else, then remove after upgrade and replace with a fresh formatted blank.

I do how ever have an issue that I can't seem to find any help with. I have looked and looked and hoping you might be able to know the answer. I believe I have all settings put in accurately and my machine is square and in fact does work. However, I can not home my machine with out the belts slipping and making a horrible sound. I have to cut the power to the machine. I have turned off the homing but every once in a while it still does it. I absolutely can not hit home or it will do it anyway. Any thoughts. I did change the dimensions in both directions and neither helped. thank you.

Three items to check: Adjustment of limit switches and that they 'make' when contacted, connection of the limit wires (and continuity) on the motherboard, and correct firmware.

@@rogersshop thank you so much for the reply. I did do a firmware update after upgrading. Not sure if it was the correct one now or not. Tried to go through xtools xcs update again but since initially connecting xcs via WiFi can't seem to connect via USB no matter what I do. I'll have to figure out the sensor "making". I have checked and rechecked connections of the wires they seem good. Thank you again I'll evaluate the sensors.

@@Loridrzewiecki I have zero use for WIFI on lasers and 3D Printers since any packet drop ruins a project. Check that the laser limits 'make' with an ohm meter and again at the motherboard end via the cable connected to the limit. I know this an old video, but I hope someone can answer this. I have googled it to death and can't find an answer. The D1 homes to x0, y0 at the top left. In Lightburn, as the laser goes back toward the opposite end the y-axis gets bigger. So it seems what Lightburn calls 0, 0 is really 0, 936? In other words, as you move lower in number on the grid, you move higher in number in Lightburn. Is there a setting I am missing, or how do you address that so that the absolute coordinates are correct? Thank you.
@rogersshop

It sounds like you may have "home" in Lightburn set to front left instead of rear left. (?)
@WG5Xradio
26 күн бұрын
@@rogersshop Thanks for the reply. No, I have home as rear left. Maybe I didn't explain it well, or maybe I'm just overthinking it. It works ok if you don't pay attention to the numbers on the spoilboard. But if for instance you are in the move panel and use move to position x40, y880, the laser will move close to the end of the spoilboard marked zero, not the end marked 900. Or if you use the jog tool to go to a certain position and they click "get position" the y position reported does not match up with the numbers on the board. I'm gonna have to ponder this a few more days.
