Nice. My buddy's were giving me a hard time, because I started Trail riding and racing my old 1994 xr650l.

i like the bars, as far as suspension upgrades the xr650l has come a long way since your era i currently have a 06 that is really a beast in the woods, rocks and roots baby thats all I'm going say.

My 2017 XR650L just with intake & exhaust even with 42tooth sprocket rear still pulls wheelies 1st 1/3 throttle

Excellent video and information. I've been curious about your bike set-up as well. I'm looking at a 1993 XR650L on CL. Guy's asking $2K, decent shape but have no idea how many miles since the ODO cable is broken. I've owned a XR400 and XR600. Motors are bullet proof so I'm thinking about going for it. Great bikes. I had a 94 brand new and sold it a couple of years later was the worse thing , I missed it everyday after finally got another one about 4 days ago, a2024 xr650l and it’s funny it feels just like my 1994 , great bike I’ll keep this forever

those little grip rings that come with pro taper grips might help the wear hole on your thumb knuckle, but as much as you ride, maybe not

I ride a 1990 dr 650. It's a very different beast from the modern dr 650 and is much more dirt oriented like the xr 650L

Wow that's about the least amount of info I've ever seen, but in your defense, it was strickly about racing mods. What I need to look at are power mods, everything else is pretty well covered.

Any frame problems racing the piggy? I had my frame crack recently near the left side subframe gusset and in the radius of the aft rear left eng mount. An old XR600 racer here in AZ tells me this is a common spot on these frames. Welded it up w/ extra gussets, good to go.

Hey, about the fuel issue. On my DRZ400E I removed the petcock and made a 10mm nylon spacer, which shifts the fuel pickups further down and thus gives you more primary and less reserve, might be something to look at.

you trust using just cam lock tie downs not ratchet straps with the motorcycle carrier? i just got one and feel like it needs ratchet straps as i cant get enough pull down with the cam lock style. you had no problems?

I just bought this bike new model in 2017. I havent modified it yet but I notice riding on dirt on this thing is like riding on ice. Can the 650L truly become a decent dirt bike? I used to own an a 2007 XR600 and it was easy to control on dirt compared to the L

A new head is $520.00 bare plus a valve job $200.00 + gaskets A repair depending if it is a solid insert or welded is between $50.00 to $150.00. + gaskets You do the math.

I just bought a 1993 XR650L with only 5000 miles on it from a friend, for a really good price... I wanted a XR600R, but I couldn't say no to this deal. That said, why did you choose to get a 650 instead of a 600? Just curious. Thanks for posting.

Love the seat. Would like to know name and model number on that electronic carb. Been looking to see if there is any kind of efi conversion kits for the xr650l . Is this something like that? Do you use a fork brace? Great bike.

Got Lectron, gearing, flexxbars, antigrav battery under seat, gripper seat cover, foot pegs and muff with spark arrestor, but I have emailed moto4play a couple times about shipping my suspension for upgrade and have gotten no reply. Do they still do suspension?

Lectron carbs are junk. A Mikuni or keihin flatslide offer more precise carburetion.

These things do the baja basically stock.. All I'd do is oil cooler and bigger tank

I'm doing 1 right now, it should be very strong, I've also have a big flat slide makuni it needs To be jetted,I'll try bigger cam, later but the thing should haul @$$, 2 1/2 points more compression auta bring the HP up a quite a bit.!!! THANK'S from NOR-CAL!!!!

+Rockie mountin Hey man, knobbies are knobby but he didn't help yah much. I say MEFO Stone-Master rear and don't know if they make a front tire to match but if so, great.... I'm 90% pavement n use the MEFO super explorer got 10,000miles for $200 Dunlop and many just suck for the price to wear comparison chart at least for pavement. Your dirt interest may warrant some research via internet.

Thanks twing21able i also ride on the street 75% of the time.but the stock tire works well on the street for a knobby tire,the front tire has long side knobbys for pavement.but they are not very good in loose dirt

Grow up loser.if you have 23000 miles on any bike tire its to hard a compound and would slide all over the pavement with the least amount of resistance,but maybe your to Fuc=en stupid to know that

Awesome that's what i was hoping to hear. Picking one up Sunday and plan to put it behind my truck camper on a hitch. It'll be on a hitch extension so will see if that makes it wiggle more. But good to hear you've had no issues.

Jacob Gilliam I just found the model for the 650l. Were you able to tune it to run any better?

pipe, jet, air filter-i run a snub snorkel 30degree angle of the carb-not good in deep water or trying to find nemo and dory. Liberal emission kit bye bye, like their common sense. All you need to do if you dont take really long rides on the highway and still want the dirt tune/setup. Drop one tooth in the front in front & rip out all of your air box and plastic useless gadgets 25 lbs max maybe more. Before snub air fliter-carb my air box was covered up by side plastics. once taken off 60-85 was hella big & noticeable gain -1 thooth. I like the stock tooth setup! but by all means dropping one tooth in the front is way faster from bottom till top...maybe you lose a little edge in 1st gear-1 compared to stock but after 35 mph or less. that -1 will kick ass until theres no more too kick=stock's...im 63 220 and the absolute best upgrade i did was putting the biggest and fattiest mcfat fat fk'n back tire i could put on the back. Everytime i lean into curve's at it's new height it's perfect, the sidewalls touch right at the most beautiful angle. I will always have the biggest back tire i can fit on the back from meow on, 63 and I still fall short to it, it shitty situations. BUT BY ALL MEANS IT RIDES BETTER THAN A CADILLAC, I can not stress that enough but i also have a 70/30 street/offroad tire on front. fat 50/50 on back, norm on front. Black top always keep back tire pressure 20-25 no higher, youll loose too much tread. ALWAYS FAT ASS TIRE ON THE BACK, never again will you have a small tire

I don't care what anyone says. Ridglines are the best trucks on the road unless you're hauling 5k+.

Guy races AA and wants to trash talk a bunch of people that have never raced a day in their life. They're people that ride DUAL SPORTS not MX or Hare Scramble pro veterans with 10+ years experience. DDean, Jacob is not talking down to anyone in the last minute of the video except if you are XR650L that makes excuses for why you can't race your bike (except motocross). He is saying the bike is perfectly capable of racing as he has done with his.
