    Rush E is like the perfect demonstration of how less is more. There's a point in music where it goes from a tune, to a piece, and then to fucking white noise where you can barely hear the melody over the sound of someone who painted Shrek's face on the midi.

  • @bradlasalle2888

    I wouldn't say it demonstrates "less is more", just that everything has its limits. You can overdose on water, but if you're drinking enough to get to that point you're doing something intentionally out of the ordinary; exact same concept with creations like Rush E. It wasn't created to be taken as a serious piece of music, so critiquing it as one is a bit illogical. It'd be like professional movie critics giving legitimate reviews to shitposts

    While I see the point that you're trying to make, please realise that the piano is (supposedly) capable of replicating a previous musician's performance perfectly, which means that if a human was used to record and then play the performance back, it really wouldn't be any different. With this I'm trying to explain that while a pure MIDI file would certainly not sound excellent, a human's actions can, therefore allowing the robot to do it too.

  • @billmagundie6866

    @billmagundie6866

    @@JaelSerrano-kg3nu I think they'd have to make their own encoding format since I don't think MIDI would capture the nuances at all. Even minute changes in fingering like placing your fingers slightly flatter to use the flesh of your fingertips more can change how a note sounds - of course this is because you're apply the force more steadily & evenly to the note and you're unable to strike the key as hard (since you can't lift your fingers as high nor have the weight of your hand above the key) and hence it should be able to be captured - but I don't know of any formats that can.

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@qwerty-cf8qr i think we have varying levels of exposure to music. in the realm of pop music and covers of songs youre 90% correct. you can still tell a computer is playing simply because the tone and timbre of the instrument will be unchanged when it plays different notes. besides from that people who make those pop channels have no emotion to add unless theyre trained in jazz or classical and are using pop only as a matter of monetary gain. in that sense you would be correct, but if we step outside of pop into a world where emotion actually plays a role in the music that all changes. emotion isnt about flaws, its about, well, emotions. you sit down at the piano to play a piece. based on everything youve ever been through in your life up until that point you will be able to feel where the first note wants to be in accordance to that, basically encompassing every emotion youve ever felt into that one single note. you play it and try to get it to sound that way, but since the human is flawed the note will sound differently. that different note is now the protagonist in the story and you have to listen to it and try to understand ”where do you belong”. you put every single emotion ypuve ever felt including that tone being played into discovering where you feel in the moment that the next note wants to be. being a good pianist means being good at knowing yourself and being self critical to be able to quickly and accurately access your emotions and bring out an entire life cycle of feelings in every played note. this is why a computer performing with perfect technical skill also means horrible playing. a computer first of all doesnt have a lifetime of emotions to cycle through with every note and it wont be able to add anything to any one note. secondly, even if it did have emotions it will play every note exactly as intended which means the interpretation wont change and it will become very bland. TLDR: your comment is right because it only relates to pop which doesnt really have deep emotion embedded in it

    >It's why I stopped playing chess, if the computer can do better, why play By that logic, you should never do anything, because there will almost always be someone or something better than you at doing the same thing. Everybody that's doing something is not doing it to be the best in the world, many people just do things for fun, for the love of the sport, to socialize with other people doing the same thing, or just to be able to watch themselves improve and get better at something. It's like when X was speedrunning Minecraft. He wasn't doing it to get a world record, he was just trying to PB and beat Forsen.
