Man it would be nice to see Sony release a 28mm 1” (no cropping) smartphone. No tele and ultrawide lenses, just one focal, with proper aperture control. Just like the the Panasonic DMC-CM1, but with all the Sony goodies: the focusing, the apps and the UI.

@@TheBeatLink you’re doubting I want what I say I want. Good to know that. Anyway. Check out the Leitz Phone 1 to see what Leica is doing with a 1” smartphone. As for Apple I doubt they’ll drop the convenience of multiple lenses to address a niche market. I do believe Sony is in a unique position to launch such a smarphone.

Thanks for the mention! When you said you'd "quote" me, I thought it'd be: "anonymous Internet man complained." I never managed to figure out why mine overheats. I thought maybe it was related to using the 5G radio but that wasn't the case, either. There was a firmware update yesterday (12/24) and it seems to be better now ... ? This phone does my head in. Odd to say but in the settings menu for Video Pro, turn off stability. 1. You get more frame. 2. It alleviates many of the artifacting that ruined your videos and the stability is actually better. My theory is that SONY is coupling the native OIS with their e-stab and many occasions they clash instead of harmonise causing inconsistent stability. Turn it off and it's just the OIS. Natural pan, less jitter organic motions!

@@saturnspike I prefer Sony's approach. Simpler, i.e less things to go wrong. It's just on or off, and the switch just works. For comparison, on the Pixel 6 with VRR you have nuggets like 60Hz draining battery faster than 120Hz, phone capping at 110Hz, phone stuck at 10Hz, etc.

All the phone camera needs for shooting video is a nice chunky grip so it's easy to hold for long periods, and a big battery built in, that's easy to recharge or swap out. And maybe a viewfinder. For stabilization, everyone forgets that the Sony ZV-1 and new Sony cameras save gyroscopic data, and can be stabilized much better in post. That is a nice feature since you don't have to worry about having super steady hands while shooting. I think when shooting you increase the shutter to double or triple the normal setting, so if I am not mistaken there "might" be less motion blur depending on the settings.......... gyroscopic data should be included in all cameras

I must say it takes some getting used to with the pro-i video app but I am loving mine... This thing is easily one of the coolest pieces of tech ever.... You just have to commit to practicing and knowing the device inside and out... Um I have the same tripod mount and maybe Lok should have attached a cheap monopod to the base to help with stability... Video came out really nice! If I had a complaint about the video pro app it would be add a simple exposure guide similar to how it is in cinema pro... That being said haven't had many issues with just eyeing it...

As the PRO-I is not using the full size of the 1" sensor sensor, when it compare with ZV-1 side by side, ZV-1 still wins for the sharpness, resolution and stability. I'm wondering if he had the shutter speed up too high... The common rule for video is to have your shutter speed double your frame rate for the best smoother motions... So that would be like 1/60 for 30fps... for 120fps the closest it can get is 1/250... for 24 it's 1/48... I could imagine if you had to up the shutter to compensate for just too much bright light then you would will get those choppier looking movements or slower might so something similar as well....I find that I shoot a higher frame rate if the light is super bright so I can raise the shutter speed to get smooth motion or you have to switch to the f4.0 aperture or use an ND filter... EDIT: I've mostly been using 30fps on my videos so I end up with 1/60 shutter... So this might be why I don't see as much blurring...

As the famous saying goes, the best camera is the one you have on you. I wouldn't take the Pro-I over most regular cameras of competing or larger sensor size. But I think the competition for this is more other smart phones. I'll always have one in my pocket, so would this photo/video better than an iPhone or pixel or Honor is the real question

Sony Xperia's smartphone cameras are the best because it keeps the integrity of the image as it doesn't ruin it with all that phony AI enhancement crap that all other smartphones like the iPhone does. I bought the Xperia Pro-I because I needed to upgrade my phone and at the same time I wanted a great camera. I didn't have money to buy a quality smartphone and a quality standalone camera. The Xperia Pro-I is two for one so that's what I got.

I went from loving the promises of this phone to praising the fact I didn't end up buying it. I watched quite a lot of the reviews so far and almost all the footage seems mushy, has focus issues, highlights are blown out, shadows are noisy, and that stabilisation jitter is just terrible. I was really disappointed. Then I took a step back and realised Sony pride themselves in using little to no computational photography in this phone, which in my opinion might very well be the key here. This kind of sensor and design has no chance in challenging situations (as evidenced by the ZV comparison at the end) without a great deal of AI help. The concept is great, but unless we use the phone in perfectly ideal lighting and other conditions, which in 99% of the time we will not, the results will be disappointing. At the end of the day I'd rather have a technically worse phone-camera that eventually yields better photos in everyday situations, and an actual camera to fiddle with if I want that kind of photographic quality. This phone seems to have wanted a piece of both worlds, and ended up not being very convincing at either of them. Or I just seriously misunderstood who this product wants to appeal to and it is definitely not me...

@@lltechview Yes, and thank you for them, I really appreciate the effort you put into making those. But they only reinforced what I think about the Pro-I, especially after seeing the low-light examples. Credit where it's due, it's doing indeed quite well in its league, which I presume would be the barebones sensor-based images without any fancy software processing. But I feel that's where we were years ago and today it's simply not enough, especially since we have the tech to compensate for the inevitable shortcomings of that approach. In other words, I see no point in being a "purist" if that leads to the results being objectively worse.

It seems western based youtubers are not using Pro-I properly. Take a look at the Chinese/Cantonese/Korean/Japanese based reviews. They tell a different story and their video/photo outcome is close to ZV-1 standard. kzread.info/dash/bejne/m3mnlrl8iNDcpaw.html&ab_channel=Paul%E9%87%8E%E5%A4%96%E6%94%9D%E5%BD%B1%E5%B8%AB kzread.info/dash/bejne/oHWexKiTZMuxhrw.html&ab_channel=FlashingDroid kzread.info/dash/bejne/iZilr7ivl7iwl7A.html&ab_channel=AUXOUT

@@HSNG10 I have seen all these before forming my opinion and honestly, not a single one managed to change my mind, as all my issues are still present if you look at them on anything larger than a smaller tablet. Then again, as I even initally tried to convey, I have since come to the realization that it is likely impossible to do any better with Sony's approach on a phone design due to the physical limitations. I used to own an APS-C camera and have a GoPro, they also have pretty much the same issues in the same conditions (except for the stabilization, I see no excuse there). That is precisely why other contemporary phones rely so heavily on the boost of computational photography, and give - to my eyes - significantly better results. I understand much of the whole concept behind this phone is exactly the lack of overdone software support, but the way I see it, that is also what holds it back from being the undisputed king of the mobile content creation landscape right now. Edit: I can also totally subscribe to the natural look argument and understand people who don't like the boosted sharpening or other forms of artificial look on videos or photos. It's just that I'd rather have a slightly artificial look than a very messy and mushy one (also i'ts easier to add grain or an unsharp mask to a too sterile-looking footage than it is to try and recover details that aren't there). It's a question of personal preference, I guess - I'm sure there will be plenty of people happy with the capabilities of this phone, it's just not for me.
