what happens if you set the discrimination to 0? Does this do away with tone 1 (iron) and everything will come in at tones 2/3 if you are using a 3 tone program. Does discrimination actually affect depth. I heard that only reactivity affects depth. Thanks, Teche Ridge Digger

Thanks for the video. I really enjoyed that. Do you Relic hunt or mainly just park hunt? I’m still trying to figure out the absolute deepest program for Civil War relics, and I keep jumping back and forth between Beach Sensitive and Deep HC. I’ll have to give the Park program a shot.

I hunt for everything but really look for coins. I hunt mainly woods and sometimes venture out to homesites on farms. Relic mode loses depth as the item gets smaller. So it would start missing coins at 10". Deep HC does not lose depth on small items, but even with audio response maxed, items sound softer, so you can miss them.

Really enjoy your unique perspectives on the Deus 2. So many people make videos and are just regurgitating the obvious. This actually equips the user with knowledge that they can use and grow with. Would love to hear your thoughts on a setup for finding targets in iron.

I understand your concept and somewhat agree with it. I do think you may have a few of the settings reversed. I would think you would want the iron volume as high as it could go. Just thinking logically by setting it to 0 you are making the processor distinguish between ferrous and non ferrous and calculating which to quiet and which to not quiet. Setting it as high as it can go would mean that the detector wouldnt care what it was, every signal would be the same volume. I don't know if that would matter with the discrimination set to -6.4 though as you have removed any iron discrimination anyway. Also I would think you would set the audio response to its highest value, this would mean that every target no matter how deep would have the same audio response. Anything lower would cause the detector to have to figure out which signals need to be higher than others due to size and or depth.

I just got my Deus 2 but I’ve had limited time to hunt with it due to frozen conditions. However like the previous viewer said, when hunting with my equinox 800, I alway ran it wide open with no discrimination at all and would play with the reactivity depending on iron conditions in the ground. The one time I was able to hunt with it, I used the general program as is. I did notice I was hitting a lot of iron targets deep and they sounded good with the “ square” tones, I think it will just take a little getting used to but so far I like it. Great video, keep’m coming!!!

Yeah I like the PWM tones on Deus 2. It sounds like the Notka Anfibio. I think most people like the sound of the equinox, so all the manufacturers are giving that option now.

I’ve never used park but I see why you’ve based this deep program on it. I have a Tudor coin Spill site. 3 silver coins from the 1500s they were between 8 and 10 inches. The uneven patina on the first one up suggested it had been stuck to others. Found two more 30 centimetres away. We’ve matched the uneven patina on two suggesting they were touching. The third coin has that patina too but doesn’t match the other coins. Suggesting it may have been stuck to a fourth. I’ll go back in park with all fillers off and see how I get on. Thanks 😊

Hi. Unfortunately I only have an Anfibio, an Equinox, and a Deus 2. I have used the Garrett Max. All of the detectors are the same though -- anything you can turn off will result in more CPU time. A good rule of thumb is to start with everything off and then only add back what you need to get your detector to a comfortable level.

Hey Anthony, I'm Joe from Southern Illinois. I hear ya about not being able to afford some of the higher priced detectors, been there. Fortunately I'm much better off now than I was in.my earlier years. And I'm sure you will be as well. I'm retired Law Enforcement And now I'm a full time detectorist. I've detected for many years. I've used about every brand name there is. For general detecting my go to machines are the Deus and the CTX 3030, In that order. But some of my best finds were with an old Bounty Hunter and Garrett Ace 250, GTA 350. My long winded point is two things. One is LOCATION! Don't matter what kind of detector you have if there's nothing in the ground to find. So do some research and talk to people that knows the local history. Second is, TIME SPENT HUNTING! If your not swinging your detector and swinging it meaningfully your not gonna find anything. If you want to increase your finds ,,, try digging everything. I hunt most every day. One day a week I take one of my older detectors with me and set it at zero discrimination, as hot as it will run and I dig everything that beeps. I find a lot of rings doing that. And I still do that today. Several years ago I found enough rings and jewelry over the year to purchase a good used Garrett AT Pro. Don't give up or get discouraged. That's what happens to a lot of new detectorist. They see videos and think they'll find treasures every time they go out. That's not gonna happen tho. I go a week or more sometimes without finding anything real meaningful. And sometimes I find a couple of good items a day for a week. I'd be glad to help in any way. Good luck to ya.

Although in theory you might have a point , your whole story is based on the cpu plus memory being to weak for the job. I don't think the experts from Deus build a state of the Art machine lacking cpu capacity nor memory.the filters provide very usable and scalable tools for worldwide environments, you pick what you need. One should leave the holy grail of depth, it's about finding, being able to understand what the detector is telling you. With my 30+ years experience on numerous brands and types i can assure you that maximum depth had not increased a lot in those years, it's the refinement that makes the difference.

Hi. Thanks for your input. The Deus II does not have an unlimited CPU, it is limited by the amount of money the XP engineers had to build the unit. Bean counters at XP said, "Engineers you have X amount of dollars to build a machine with X features." If engineers were allowed to build any detector they wanted to, it would cost $950,000. This is why a company such as Garrett has ten machines at different price points. Bean counters said you have $100 to make an Ace, $300 to make a MAX. Aside from going deeper, any bit of CPU ticks that you can get released from the filters allows the Deus II to be able to process more complex signals such as coin on edge. My method provides both deeper penetration and more time/processing power to process complex signals at both shallow and deep depths.

@@nicks3560 Right but that's the deepest setting, which is the point of the video. If you want to start discriminating and making the machine quiet, you lose depth. There are other simple ways to determine if something is iron without any filters if you must but in deep soil you just need to dig more to find more.
