I just got my replacement xlx2 a few weeks ago, manufactured last month. My intial ESC didn't go up in flames, but it had a weird stuttering issue. This one had it as well, but it was minor when in use, so I thought it was fine... Took it to a park, opened it up for about 5-10 mins and BAM, bursted into flames. Was running a 2028 1100kv motor, QS8 connectors, and mild gearing in an 8s outcast... I'm absolutely pissed! I wanted to give it a chance, but almost a year after the initial issues and it STILL caught on fire? Absolutely done with the XLX2 after that, it's a beast of an ESC, but castle really fucked up with manufacturing it.

@@ikonic189 I haven't seen as many cases of the MMX8S catching fire. Mine has yet to cause me any problems. Runs really good and powerful like the XLX2, just can't pull as many amps. In a basher that's geared reasonable, it's hard to tell a difference.

Pretty cool you get a free fireworks show with every xlx2 purchase.

Kevin Talbot had this same thing happen on 2 brand new Castle XLX2 esc, one caught fire just plugging in & switching on. One of them burnt his custom built Arrma Typhon long jump car down.

Damn that sucks dude, glad you get the lipos out as they were clearly going to thermal meltdown mode

If you want to burn up your very expensive rc car then buy a castle product. If you want to drive your rc with no issues then buy a hobbywing. Castle isn’t what it use to be they are very dangerous. Can’t beat hobbywing reliability.

totally agree with you..it damaged my new expensive 8s battery..but xlx2 is made for high speeds....

like is castle even a good brand... they make the esc VXL-6s Marine for the Traxxas M41 and Traxxas Spartans and they are well know for blowing up...

Thermal expansion possibly within the buss bar assembly. Definitely a dead short though. I've seen this in the audio world when a transistor goes. It dead shorts the input and takes it out. Maybe use a 150A midi fuse to protect the battery next time.

This kinda happened to my MMX 8S on my Typhon 6S, ran it on a VERY conservative gearing, 17T pinion stock spur on center diff. Did one pass on 8S, went smooth with no issue, ~70sh mph. Turned off. Went to turn it back on to do a 2nd pass & it started beeping normally during the bootup sequence & then quickly began to smoke. Good thing it was still under warranty, castle replaced it free of charge.

@@zeesrcstudio6938 Perhaps, I know that with the XLX2 in my Limitless I haven't had an issue. I just sent back the MMX 8S that I received back again. This one had no brakes. And I just put it into my freshly rebuilt & stretched Typhon 6S. I didn't even get to run it. Glad I noticed it had no brakes while calibration. This is speedrun setup, I even put a Limitless center spool in it geared 34T/34T. Had I ran that without brakes, that would have been a bad day lol. I did put a spare MMX 6S I had kicking around to make sure it wasn't a receiver issue. It worked fine with it, hit 85mph on just 4S. So I'm not sure what's going on with the castle MMX 8S. 🤷‍♂️

It helps to block the airflow to the fan. If you want to burn up the esc.

I just had the same thing happen but mine did more damage to my RC. I bought Castles combo with the 2028 1100kv and it worked fine about the 8 times i took it out over 2 months. Then the other day powered on my truck and about a minute later it looked like a Roman candle. It really sucks and now I'm pulling the other xlx2's I have out of the cars.

Dudes esc completly blows up and he goes “oh well, shit happen” 💀

They know about the issue. For it to fry a battery that fast it has to be a good shorted connection. Nothing to do with soldering there as it was still plugged in and not pulling any amps. Just a garbage esc.

damn that was the craziest xlx2 going up i´ve seen so far and the first i´ve seen go up with the castle 2028 motor attached to it. so i think my theory is revoked that it is to do with high kv motors. you were lucky the battery became unsoldered otherwise it would have been even worse. after seeing this im now positively convinced that some generations of the xlx2 seem to actually have issues. Damn, but still castle is a good brand and im sure they will fix this issue now problem and over the next year we wont see new videos like this

I’ve had two xlx2s with the 2028 1100kv go up in flames the same way. Both times did the same thing to my lipos as this guy. Castle has put out that it is a issue with the pots shorting out to the aluminum case. What bothers me is castle is replacing these xlx2s no questions asked, but they feel that they are not responsible for the damages the fires cost. How can you admit you have a failed product but not take responsibility for what your failed product damages.

And own discretion sooo. And I bet it somewhere statesin the manual or. Some extra paper that they can't be held responsible for any outside damages.... I think. But we'll. We should be glad that they at least replace the esc no questions asked. But you definitely have a point

I just think its messed up in my case and others that have talked to castle and castle has admitted the product is at fault. They say yeah we’ll send you another combo...sorry about the lipos though its not our responsibility. Id almost rather them tell me its user error and no fault of their product...then to tell me yeah its our fault heres a new one combo. Now go kick rocks buddy. I want to know what will happen when one of these things go up in flames on the bench and burn someones house down. Then what will they say.

That had to be the lipos , faulty solder, or motor 8mm bullets not fully secure in esc !

I’m not a castle fan boy because I’ve only owned hobbywing but I know they are an amazing company and I think it’s only this products that’s gone bad but their other products are amazing

It was a prototype essentially in my opinion. They just need to fine tune it and release a 2nd gen.i prefer to bash with hobbywing as well. Except for an old original mamba monster esc from castle. That thing is a beast still!!! For an 1/8 scale buggy anyway. Better than the max 8 esc in terms of response

This is crazy. I’m new to RC, why don’t cars use a fuse/breaker on battery feed to the ESC? If there’s a short it’ll pop the fuse/trip the breaker instead of burning the car & battery to the ground. Is the voltage drop that significant?

Guys of castle creations should give to us more informations about these escs such as motor limits and max amps. Its not enough max voltage as a parameter to buy an esc. This is a waste of money !! 😂 Find other combinations between motors and escs until the existing problem is sloved. Good luck! 👍✌️

This one at least is obvious what happened the capacitor in the esc blew up, probably from not enough thermal paste from factory.

Castle will say it’s staged like they are saying with all the other xlx2s catching fire.

I get that castle is replacing the failed xlx2s, but shouldn’t they be responsible for the damages that their product cost as well? Im out over 600 in lipos, receivers and other components that my two faulty xlx2s caused. Now im getting a 3rd xlx2 replacement but that ones going no where near any of my vehicles again.

No it is not they are just pure garbage anymore. I took one straight out the box and plugged a brand new 6s lipo to it and it caught on fire within seconds. This is the reason I only use hobbywing now they never have issues like this.

No fire extinguisher in site. Maybe next time?

Mamba it is a dissapointed product just because quality control sucks, i will stick with hobbywin max 6 or platinums pro !!!

Look on the esc cable and check the date. If it's and older date you know what you got. Fron what I'm seeing everyone these earlier dates are having the issues

seems like the older xlx is better.These xlx2 puts out so much power u just dont know,but 1650kv in which is the best runing it on 6s and big race on 8s. There a system to test your motor and esc,that way you would know off hand if its to much.

I got the mamba monster x 8s purely because of the xlx2 rumours I heard! The mmx8s is tested and proven so yeh I'd go for that. I've got a max6 in my exb which is also plenty enough for bashing! Will never go in to thermal shutdown. Oh and it won't set on fire neither 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻

The issue is they won’t get back to you for another year. Then they will offer you the new unit next year. Go buy a hobbywing max5 and never worry again.

@@Blueknight1960 you have an issue with your set up then. Hobbywing has the best software out there to protect against meltdowns. If I had to guess your motor is pulling to much power. Get a programmer and try to adjust some things like low voltage cut off. When you juice it your motor pulls a ton of power and and the esc probably thinks your batteries are dead. Look up some videos on how to set it up. It has more safety features than any other esc which is good you just need to know what you need.

No one can get these ESCs right. The thermal protection that is supposed to prevent fires is trash.

This just happened in my kraton 8s smh. Bad thing is i just bought it jan 5th 22

I’ve never ran castles before, their prices are just way too high. I’ve had good luck with skyrc toro beasts 200a esc, on 8s and right gearing will take any 1/8 scale over 100mph easily and that esc is fanless. Good luck man!

Try getting any other esc other than an xlx or xlx2 over 150mph though. I get the point that the xlx2 is catching on fire quite often, but it is the only high performance esc worth buying for speedrunning.

Omg... THAT IS EXACTLY THE SAME WAY HOW I BURNED MY HW MAX6!! The first two run did pretty well and all over 160km but then second time when you turn on is either fire or smoke just like in this video! 😂😂😂 Now we're fair 1:1 😆

Another one bits the dust! Castle u suck! Fix your problems and reimburse everyone who has lost there entire cars batteries everything. They never should have released these esc's. They suck

That's what happens when you invest in junk brands

Castle shouldn’t sell the xlx2 without a free fire extinguisher included. All the power and data logging isn’t worth burning your whole build or house to the ground. I’ll stick to the $50 amazon and eBay escs.

How long have you been running the two that you have? I have one myself built in 10/20. Doesn't seem to have any issues at the moment but I haven't given it a full-on speedrun test yet either and I'm scared as hell to run it

@@texus36 yeah Castle needs to do something about sorting out the issue ASAP I'm not wanting to burn up my rig that I have a small fortune invested in. Nor do I want to take the chance on causing damage to anyone else's property this is a dangerous situation that castle needs to address

castle must recall these esc now before somebody gets theire face burned !!! and also pay for damages caused in all rc cars by this shitty product. these are $800 rc cars ! and most of them get parts burned , plus all the damaged lipos also. this is suposed to be a responsable and trusted company....bull shit .
