Beautiful! The body is kept straight very nicely, and this along takes a lot of standing training to obtain. The Pi Quan itself shows a nice use of body momentum. The turnings are swift and accurate. It is quite a different style from what I practice and usually see, but absolutely beautiful!

This is not a specific form but a demonstration of Xing Yi Quan. It mainly consists of pi, zuan, beng and pao movements. The movements are initially carried out slowly to clearly demonstrate the internal build-up and to highllight the fa jin, the explosive release of energy. This is one of the basic elements of the Internal Arts. If you only see arm movements and don't see the internal build-up and the whip-like release of force, then you are far from understanding the Internal Arts.

xing yi is a chinese internal martial art i.e. tai chi chuan, bagua zhang. In chinese it means mind form boxing. and is based off the 5 element creation and destruction system.

Interesting variant on the 5-element transition form. He only did the first two elements though. Good posture, fit.

Energy release in the internal arts starts from the dan tian and not necessarily from the heel, especially not in a downward movement as pi quan. I don't know the name of his teacher.

No offense sir, but I have actually lived in China and the masters there are VERY proud of what style and lineage they have. Teachers who don't share where they learned their art are not accepted very much in China by the established masters. For example, many teachers feel that by telling the stories and giving credit to their ancestors that they make their style more famous. We are talking about Chinese culture which places a lot of reverence on ancestors.

Energy starts from the heel/ground if your art uses the 3 section theory that is mentioned in the classics. Root, middle, end. Not just middle and end lol

If you start from the heel it doesn't mean that the heel should be rigidly connected to the ground during the whole process. We are talking now about a standing application of pi quan but when you go to the stepping form that is even impossible. In applications and in the animal forms there is even sometimes jumping.

  • @stonetigerxingyi

Please forgive me if I am being rude. But the common understanding of the Internal Arts is that the whole body moves as one. In this video we see only arm movements. Where did this form come from? Which teachers and through which lineage? Again, I apologize if I have offended anyone, but this IS NOT anything close to the Internal Arts

"Would you tell us a bit about your particular style of Hsing-I, where it comes from, and what kinds of things you emphasize in your training and teaching? Well, I'm not quite clear exactly what style of Hsing-I that we do, because my Shr Fu would never mention what "style" of Hsing-I we were doing." This is an excerpt from an interview of Grandmaster Henry Look. Notice how his Master would 'never mention what 'style'. Our greatest masters have a good reason why they don't mention these things

No, this isnt whipping from the internal arts. This is external, segmented whipping. Internal whipping comes from the heel and the body settlesas the whip continues out. Look at :50 into this clip. As he whips down his heel comes up and he doesnt sink at all. This is just not IMA. Again, who did he learn this from please?

Anyone wears a monks robes, shaves his head, and gives a sloppy performance of Hsing Yi Ch'uan. And you people fall all over yourselves seeing who can get their nose brownest the first. Such bigotry is, sadly, pervasive throughout the martial arts society. Another reason we must all practice discrimination, dharana, and mediation. Sigh.... Xing Yi's theory does not "belong" to Taoism. As I said, Taoist principles are more often than not applied to the study of it, but it was not developed out of Taoist belief, nor was Tai Ji...only Ba Gua was specifically developed out of Taoist principle. I'm not going to debate on the history of martial arts with someone who has already decided they're right. Do some research (and I don't mean wikipedia...read some books. Sun Lu Tang has written some excellent ones).

And as I've also said, being open minded and being unregulated are not interchangeable terms, so that point really has no place in this.

I'm no historian or expert, but I've been studying wudangshan 108 taijiquan for the past 8 years. This is not from the touristy stuff you see on the YT videos. My teacher learned from a 90 YO man in a folk school (Ding Hong Kui). Ding yeye, in turned studied with another 90 YO man when Ding was a 6 YO boy. This already puts our lineage older than Yang style taijiquan. Ding yeye could count his lineage back centuries. So how is taijiquan not an Wudang art?

My friend's have trained with revered sifus in China, and based on the information that I have been passed down, I am afraid to say that your definition of internal arts is not supported in the country of its origin. Sun Lu Tang's expositions led him to differentiate between internal and external. What you must understand is that Hsing-I, among other forms of martial arts, predates this dichotomy proposed by Lu Tang; your argument has an irrelevant semantic angle to it.

  • @theMAG101
    @theMAG10115 жыл бұрын

No, they don't. Althought Taoist principles are often applied in the study of "internal" martial arts, the only one with direct Taoist origins is Ba Gua Zhang (the belief that all internal styles originated from Wu Dang is a myth). And "open-minded" and "unregulated" are not analogous terms in any sense, so I'm not touching that.

I agree with MrAgusrio. Def. Fajing here. Xing Yi has forms, but is actually an alphabet of moves. In any event, the monk's got power. His xing yi looks better than 99% of the absolute CRAP that is on KZread. Most xing yi vids have some dork, teacher or not, that has convinced others he's got some 'secret' moves or magic or something. In the real world, they would be smoked in about 5 seconds from some Mexican dishwasher that trains his ass off on weekends.

Moreover, do not be entrapped by this game of semantics, otherwise you will disservice the art. Focus on the art and technique, and don't mind these word games. Marital arts is not about semantics and this is evident in the history of marital arts, where thousands of years ago, practitioners transcended categorical knowledge and borrowed techniques from each other. "Don't forget the form." Good luck =)

Monks would not be prohibited from practicing a form of martial art that is not traditional Shaolin curriculum. That would be foolishly close-minded...a trait that is not encouraged by Shaolin Ch'an Buddhism. That's not to say I think this guy is a monk. I don't.

Thats pretty bad. No matter what you call it. Without its own basic priciples it is not Hsing Yi. Everytime the new millienial generation of Shaolin boxing students touch another more sophisticated martial art they screw it up. And all the spineless obsequious western enthusiasts just drool over the bastardized and corrupted art. That Shaolin wishes to claim as its own. The Shaolin Way of life is ruled by the communist party. But it is supposed to be ruled by the Buddha. Shaolin has fallen. Slapping a coat of paint on an old temple will never resurrect Shaolins ancient glory. The "real" kung fu left the mainland almost a hundred years ago. Real Shaolin kung fu now flourishes around the world. Just not in China. Wu De is alive and well. Just not with the money grubbing ego maiacal posers left on the mainland Peace
