Amazing to see Mi 8 can sometimes get better dynamic range than S9+. Look at the tree picture with a little sky on the top left, it's simply white on S9+ but clear blue with clouds on Mi 8. OTOH, the red car with big sky on top turns the table around. Weird, eh? In low light, the difference is not huge until you pixel peep. S9+ variable aperture play a big role in getting more light to make the scene brighter without losing details. I hope soon we will have true variable aperture in smartphone cameras (not just 2 switches).

I think for versatility the Samsung but for value/costs the Xiaomi, looks like the pictures with normal light are better on the Xiaomi, but with plenty of light or low light conditions the Samsung is the best. Nice comparison video, liked as always my friend

S9 é melhor nos contrastes, principalmente em cores escuras, Olhe a foto ais 1.49min. Tambem achei a imagem do vídeo deafocada no xiaomi, apesar do som melhor. s9 is better in contrasts, especially in black colors, see the photo at 1.49 min. I also found the xiaomy video more blurry despite the better sound. hugs from Brazil!

I still lean towards the S9+. I did notice that the last few comparos you have done the audio sounds very muted on the S9+. Not sure why. Excellent video. Thank you

Just a heads-up, i read that for now the stabilisation doesn't work with 4k video on the mi 8, but if you switch to 1080p you should be at least be able to see what it's potentially capable of. Just ordered my mi 8 last night, this video shows me I made the right choice :)

They did. It's actually really good now

both phones are quite similar. maybe in some details the s9 takes a small advantage.. but both are superb. the stabilization in 4K in MI8 , i think its a question of updating the software by xiaomi. the price of MI8 is below 400 € in my country.. and the S9+ is around 1000€ . does the S9+ is better 2x .. no way , maybe a bit better in 2 or 3 situations.. but never 2x better...

You must have suck at math. Price and performance have non-linear correlation, let alone between the two brands. So you can't say that just because the price is 2x you expect to perform 2x better. There's the so called the X feature/factor that so important and hard to improve if included that would make the price increased non-linearly.

Hi, big big request! Can you please do a manual photo shoot during the night? Just a quick snap or two with less iso and more exposure time, I'm rather curious about the performance on each (maybe even more than these two phones, if you still have them?) and maybe the level of manual control that each gives the user (max iso, exposure time, if zoomed in they use the main camera or the tele one, etc) . Multumesc mult! :)

Did mi8 had its AI feature turned on while shooting pics? That colors look to punchy. If it's turned off maybe it would look more realistic. Great vid btw

90% of the pictures had the AI turned off

I like the saturated pictures of Xiaomi more than Samsung, Samsung pictures look a bit washed out. But when it comes to video recording Samsung is just way better.

I really wanted to see how the MI 8 matches up with one of the best cameras out there, thanks for the video! i personally liked the MI 8 daylight pictures more than the S9 but everything else i thought the S9 won quite easily. that sucks cause i was seriously thinking of buying the MI 8 but now.... not so sure!

But you are still looking at a phone that is $300 cheaper. I've also done a camera comparison between the S9+ and the Mi Mix 2S. That one is worth checking out as well

Almost in every single shot in daylight the Mi8 had way better dynamic range than the S9 Plus.In low light the Mi8 produces brighter but soft photos which should not be the case since the Mi Mix 2s rocking exactly the same hardware produces sharper images.Hopefully an update will fix this.

Mi 8 wins in daylight pics and selfie camera, S9+ wins at portrait pics, night photos and video stabilisation. Nice video.

Special thanks to you for the photo of the child - only from the portraits can one appreciate the real capabilities of the camera, this is the most difficult, but not the sharpness of the blades of grass and not even the dynamic range.

90% of the pictures taken had the AI turned off, but the saturation is still a bit higher than the Samsung. That isn't necessarily a bad thing, most people will prefer the more vibrant colours

I use Nova Launcher and the Glif icon Pack

In mode portrait and others photos taked to mi8 , you used mode AI what not calibred yet. You didn't use very well the mi8 in most photos taked to him.

Thinking of the value for the money you get it is the Mi 8 for me. It clearly looses in the Video comparison while it does have by ages a better sound recording. Regarding the camera it is a close mix. For low light i would still give the win to the Samsung 9+ while in daylight it is tie. Front camera is Mi8 slighly in front. But for what I can tell comparing both mobile devices from a financial point of view and needs the Mi 8 is the winner after all for me.

good review Alex ! about 50% cheaper the Mi 8 is even good , I have just ordered today a Mi 8 6/128 for 353€ ! Amazing !! after mi fantastic Mi Note 3

with MIUI 10 that's supposed to come very soon...the video capabilities should be improved on the MI 8...may be worth waiting for the update and see what people say

*Top 5 camera phones both!* *S9+* has much more natural colors and better detail although it is a bit soft in some photos. *Mi 8* is pretty great but over-saturates and is more contrasty. They are both very impressive in low light but *S9+* is on a league of its own here. Brighter lens with less digital noise. 4K video both great detail but obviously *S9+* OIS works much better, for now.

The principal camera Mi8 artificial photos vs S9+ more natural and definition photos. 3:23 that is the difference, look her hair and the led bar. 6:21 look the word "Diamonds" The frontal camera more natural an definition in Mi8.

i prefer the xiaomi mi 8 in cameras manners but i like you to do a comparison between this devices but to the batteries, which offers more screen time for the user?

In day light mi8 is eay better.The color is warmer.They both overexpose the sky but s9 does it more.On night s9 wins.On video s9 wins,on audio mi8 has lots of volume but s9 is more clear.

S9+ but the other is still very good still not sure which one to buy the s9+ will be a used one the other new.

Mi8 actually performed better in nightshots, I liked the brighter shadows. And for the saturation... Isn't there a setting in the camera menu where u can adjust the intensity of saturation? Any one tried?

CRISTY KAMRANKING Mi8 have the settings for adjusting saturation, contrast and sharpness in settings.

I am ready to buy my first flagship Phone and i love s9+ but here i like mi 8 more than s9+..And the price is not the same so..Wow Mi 8.As 3rd choice i think oneplus 6 so its so difficult...

Best physical colour Samsung best !!!

In the night-time pictures the S9+ is the clear winner, but neither compares in this discipline with the P20 Pro.

Xiaomi has the best voice recording while taking the 4k. Stabilization in the mi 8 is bad. But the photos are really good, s9+ also had very good photos. I am here because I want to buy either of the phone. But I'll buy the mi 8 instead because it's cheap. I can afford the s9+ but I have seen issues of the screen burn in. I don't want to risk my money buying s9+ then regretting

Both take great images, but the audio on the S9 was horrible compared to the Mi 8. Great comparison!

yeah, I had to buy an external microphone for it for whenever I need to film something with it...I don't know how you can get such a poor microphone in such an expensive phone

Obviously the S9+ is overall a better phone, but also twice the price. For the price? I think Mi 8 wins, hands down. If price factor is eliminated(which it can't, as we live in the real world, where money is everything) then S9+ is clearly better.
