Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun tours leading Chinese EV makers at 2024 Beijing Auto Show

At the 2024 Beijing Auto Show, Xiaomi's CEO Lei Jun embarked on a tour visiting the booths of leading electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers such as Nio, Xpeng and Li Auto. Xiaomi, a newcomer in the EV market and a Chinese consumer electronics giant, showcased its first EV, the SU7, last month.
Foreign automakers from Japan and Germany were also present, striving to catch up with surging Chinese EV makers who are dominating the world’s largest auto market. The Porsche Macan EV, the latest electric model from the renowned automaker, is equipped with a 100kWh battery pack supplied by CATL, a leading battery manufacturer based in Ningde, China.
Makoto Uchida, President and CEO of Nissan Motor, highlighted their strategic focus, “And now we want to make our strategy even stronger in China, how we can make sure to deliver the car which meets the customer needs and meets the speed. If we cannot do those two aspects, I think it is very difficult to keep our business in China."
Apart from Nissan, 117 global debut vehicles were on display, including 278 models powered by electric, hybrid, and hydrogen energy.

I've watched a lot of Chinese drama from the kingdom period. Seeing each CEO complimenting each other remind me scenes of high ranking official giving each other praises while privately each of them plotting for their demise. It might speaks the same as it is the culture but it might not its 2024 afterall.

The manufacturer was like it's too expensive for the consumer. The German was like no worries we won't allow people to get cheaper high quality cars first that the middle class need desperately. We will charge a premium first and we will milk that strategy as long as we can. That's the strategy of the west

It took them years to copy Tesla’s electric platform, but it’s practically impossible for them to catch up with Tesla’s AI capabilities. Traditional automakers and copycats simply lack the knowledge, data and hardware required to compete. Yet, they are so proud and self-congratulatory in this video it’s hard to feel any sympathy.
