<小外刈(こそとがり) / Ko-soto-gari>
相手を後方に崩し、左足で相手の右足を外側から刈って投げる技 /
A technique to reap the opponent’s right foot from the outside with the left foot and throw him down by breaking his balance backward.
<小外掛(こそとがけ) / Ko-soto-gake>
相手を後方に崩し、左脚を相手の右脚に外側から掛け、体を抜き上げて投げる技 /
A technique to throw down the opponent by breaking his balance backward, hooking the left leg from the outside on his right leg and uplifting his body.

    Would love to see the kodokan guys classify actual competition examples. A lot of the time it’s very vague

    You're right, but often times it's still even more vage in competition. Sometimes it's up to the observer to decide what's what. Luckily we have channels like yours or like Chadi's 🙏👍

    Its funny how these two techniques un particular look like they are lame throws on form. But when they are applied in randori they hit really hard!
