Thank you learnt so much, first time I heard of Hong Kong currency devaluation in the 1966~1967, and that our light industry driven out some uk local. Time to time I’d also imagine what world it would be if British pickup china instead of India, maybe American isn’t a thing now, or maybe British got colonised from far end continent again. 😂

英國政府為挽救經濟，在1949年及1967年將英鎊大幅貶值，港元亦受牽連，及後港府在1967年將港元升值（14.55元兌1英鎊），與英鎊掛勾的制度直至1972年，因英國經濟疲弱而取消。港元進入短暫與美金掛勾及容許港元幣值自由浮動的年代，但機制運作不暢順，在貿易逆差擴大，中國亦曾以港元換美元資助國家現代化之下，港元曾持續貶值，最終在1983年香港貨幣制度有了重大變革。…. （from a very informative article by 港識多士)
